Wash Times Publishes Scientist Op-Ed on FCC Lawsuit Regarding Outdated Safety Standards for Wireless Devices

By B.N. Frank

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is supposed to protect Americans by regulating the telecom industry.  It has done a lousy job for decades (see 1, 2).  During the Trump administration lawsuits were filed against the agency for NOT protecting the public from unsafe levels of cell phone and WiFi radiation (see 1, 2) as well as 5G on Earth (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and in space.

There was a hearing for one of the lawsuits last month and judges were NOT impressed with the FCC’s defense (see 1, 2, 3).  Dr. Devra Davis (Environmental Health Trust) has written an op-ed about why her organization filed this lawsuit.

From the Washington Times:

Why I’m challenging the FCC about antiquated safety standards for wireless devices: The Washington Times

Feb 25, 2021

Dr. Davis published new OP-ED in the Washington Times on Feb. 24, 2021 entitled, “Why I’m challenging the FCC about antiquated safety standards for wireless devices” where she speaks to our historic legal appeal EHT et al., v the FCC.

Environmental Health Trust filed this  lawsuit against the FCC over its 1996 safety standards for wireless radiation, claiming that the agency did not sufficiently review the scientific evidence of the harm from radiofrequency radiation emitted by wireless devices, when it decided that its 1996 safety standards are not outdated. In this Op-Ed author Devra Davis explains why the FCC lawsuit on wireless safety standards had to be filed and why it matters to the public.

Excerpts from “Why I’m challenging the FCC about antiquated safety standards for wireless devices”

“Would you let your family fly in a plane or ride in a bus that meets 25-year-old safety standards? Yet, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) assures us that wireless devices that meet last-century standards can safely be used by infants, toddlers and the rest of us.

During a fascinating hearing before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals on Jan. 25, the FCC maintained that 1996 standards can safely apply to testing devices many of which did not exist when those standards were first established.

The FCC readily concedes it is not a health agency. For health advice, it relies on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In 1999, the FDA asked the National Toxicology Program (NTP), the government’s flagship testing program, to use standard animal testing protocols routinely used for extrapolation to humans and evaluate the impacts of non-thermal lifetime exposures to cellphone radiation. In 2018, the NTP issued the results of that $30 million state-of-the-art study, finding clear evidence of cancer and DNA damage.”

American opposition to 5G and other unwanted wireless installation continues to due to concerns about reduced property value (see 1, 2), public safety (see 1, 2, 3), health (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), and environmental risks.  Opponents have also described 5G installation as a form of “environmental racism.”

High speed internet is safer and more secure with a wired internet connection (see 1, 2, 3) – not 5G, 4G (see 1, 2) or WiFi (see 1, 2, 3). Americans have already paid to have safer high-speed internet via fiber optics (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).  Adding insult to injury, 5G hasn’t been reliable or faster where it has been installed (see 1, 2, 3, 4)!

American municipalities are taking action against unwanted deployment (see 1, 2, 3, 4).  Cities worldwide AND entire countries have taken action to ban, delay, halt, and limit 5G installation AS WELL AS issue moratoriums due to health, safety, environmental and economic risks.  Americans opposed to 5G may sign this letter asking President Biden and Vice President Harris to stop deployment and contact legislators to demand that the next COVID relief bill be written for only safer broadband.

Concerned that 5G has already has been installed in your community?  A free online tutorial provides instructions on how to locate it.
