California firefighters, legislators, and residents have been very active and vocal in their opposition to cell towers and antennas being installed near fire stations, homes, and schools (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8). Firefighters even fought for an ordinance to exempt their stations from installation. Some parents fought for the removal of a small cell tower next to a school because students and staff kept getting cancer and additional illnesses. Now some retirement home residents are taking action.
From CBS San Francisco:
Palo Alto Retirement Home Residents Fight To Remove 4G, 5G Cell Towers
PALO ALTO (KPIX 5) — Wireless carriers are aggressively expanding their 5G networks. But there are still no studies about how safe the technology is. It’s an issue that has divided communities across the Bay Area.
One case in point: Palo Alto. Residents fought long and hard to slow the spread of wireless antennas in their neighborhoods. The city finally released a new wireless ordinance that steers 5G cell towers away from residential areas and bans them within 600 feet of schools. For everyone else, it’s 20 feet, including homes for seniors.
“I think it’s outrageous, how they have behaved,” said Chris Robell, whose parents live at the Channing House retirement home. Robell first noticed a small 5G cell tower right next to Channing House last spring.
When Robell asked about it, he says an employee with AT&T, which owns the 5G installation, told him: “If you’re worried about the small cell node, you ought to be a lot more worried about the macro cell tower on the roof at Channing House.”
It turns out Channing House, home to some of the most prominent retirees in Palo Alto, is also home to a 4G macro wireless cell tower on the roof, installed back in 2006.
“My parents and other residents had never had this disclosed to them, ever,” said Robell.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is supposed to protect Americans by regulating the telecom industry. Their history of catering to the industry at the expense of the public pre-dates the current administration. Despite research proving harm, the agency refuses to update 24-year-old federal RF radiation exposure guidelines. Lawsuits have been filed against them for NOT protecting Americans from unsafe levels of radiation as well as 5G deployment on land (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and in space. Federal agencies and other experts have also warned that 5G threatens national security, public safety, and weather forecasting accuracy (see 1, 2, 3).
In 2019 telecom executives gave U.S. congressional testimony that they had NO scientific evidence that 5G is safe. The majority of scientists worldwide oppose deployment until studies show that it’s safe. Cities worldwide AND entire countries have taken action to ban, delay, halt, and limit installation AS WELL AS issue moratoriums (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). Since 2018 there have been reports of people and animals experiencing undesirable symptoms and illnesses after 5G has been turned on (see 1, 2, 3, 4). Of course other sources of wireless can cause symptoms and illnesses too – hence increasing opposition worldwide to ALL cell towers and antennas near places where people spend long periods of time – like where they live.
