Ask Your Legislators that Next COVID Relief Bill Contain Funding for Safe Wired Broadband ONLY

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is supposed to protect Americans by regulating the telecom industry. Instead, it has behaved like a “captured” agency for decades (see 1, 2). During the Trump administration lawsuits were filed against the agency for NOT protecting the public from unsafe levels of cell phone and WiFi radiation as well as 5G on Earth (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and in space.

High-speed internet is achievable, safer and more secure with a wired internet connection (see 1, 2, 3) – not 5G or WiFi (see 1, 2, 3). Americans have paid to have this provided for them via fiber optics (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

President Biden’s pick for FCC chair continues to push for federal dollars to be spent on unsafe technology. Your state may be doing the same (see 1, 2, 3). A Wisconsin resident has provided a call-to-action that can be adapted by all Americans.

The next COVID relief bill is slated to contain funding for broadband.

Please contact your U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative (Find your senators at http://www.senate.gov/ . Find your Representative at http://www.house.gov/.) and President Biden (https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/) and ask that any broadband expansion funds in the COVID relief bill be earmarked for WIRED broadband ONLY and also that the next FCC chairperson be someone who puts public and environmental health over technology promotion.

In your letter, succinctly summarize why this is important to you personally with visible links to a couple of reputable references.

State-level action is necessary too. Many states are increasing broadband funding because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Your state probably is too. Please take actions similar to those recommended for Wisconsinites below.

Please write or call Governor Evers (govinfo@wisconsin.gov) and your Wisconsin state Legislators (https://legis.wisconsin.gov/) and ask that they require that broadband funding only be used for WIRED broadband. Succinctly summarize why this is important to you personally.

Then, on a periodic basis, send Governor Evers, your legislators, and local officials solid reputable articles that help them understand the hazard wireless technology poses to people and the environment.

Help raise awareness within your community by writing factual letters to the editor with links to reputable information on the web. A Letter to the Editor that was published in my local paper is below. Post reputable information on community social media resources.

Join The Environmental Health Trust mailing list by going to www.EHTrust.org and clicking yes, when asked if you would like to join. They often send around just the sort of information that needs to find its way to public officials and social media to increase community awareness and action.

Our family filed an Amicus brief in the Environmental Health Trust (www.EHTrust.org) lawsuit against the FCC for ignoring the majority of the submissions in their docket (both scientific and experiential) which show that the FCC limits on radiofrequency/microwave radiation emitted by wireless technology are completely inadequate to protect public health and the environment. The common thread of the comments is that anyone can become over exposed and then injured. Don’t wait for this to happen to you or your family. Governor Evers will be markedly increasing funds to increase broadband access. Let both Governor Evers and your WI state legislators know that you want that money ONLY to be spent on WIRED broadband initiatives. WIRED broadband is safer, faster, more reliable, more secure, at least ten times more energy efficient, and more environmentally friendly.

Section 704 of 1996 Telecommunications Act has been interpreted as preventing local governments from stopping installation of wireless base station antennas as long as the antennas comply with FCC limits for wireless radiation.

Call your national Congressional Representative and Senators and ask that they repeal Section 704 of The 1996 Telecommunications Act so that communities can once again protect public health and the environment from the hazard posed by cell towers and 5G and WiFi base station antennas.
