Environmental Working Group References NTP Research in Comments to FCC on Human RF Exposure and 5G

By B.N. Frank

The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) is supposed to protect Americans by regulating the telecom industry.  Current FCC chairman Ajit Pai recently bragged that U.S. doesn’t have a heavy handed regulatory framework.”  Indeed – their regulatory framework has always heavily catered to the telecom industry (see 1, 2).  Lawsuits have been filed against them for NOT protecting Americans from unsafe levels of radiation (see 1, 2) and unwanted widespread 5G deployment (see 1, 2, 3) which includes satellites blasting it from space (see 1, 2, 3).  5G opponents include the Department of Defense who say the technology threatens national security.

The agency has requested comments on their new proposed RF exposure rules. Environmental Working Group (EWG) is one of many who have weighed in.

May 13, 2020 Environmental Working Groups comments to the Federal Communications Commission proposed rule on Human Exposure to Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields

Research by the National Toxicology Program, or NTP, which conducted the largest ever animal study of RF radiation, supports earlier evidence from human studies that long-term exposure to RF radiation can increase the risk of cancer. Specifically, the NTP study found clear evidence of tumors – malignant schwannomas – in the hearts of male rats, as well as some evidence of malignant gliomas in their brains and tumors in their adrenal glands. 4 A study conducted by the Ramazzini Institute, in Italy, obtained similar results showing elevated cancer risk. 5 The NTP study also demonstrated that RF exposure in laboratory animals can cause DNA damage.6 EWG also highlights an important study from scientists at the National Institute on Drug Abuse that in people, exposure to cell phone emissions is associated with changes in brain glucose metabolism in the region closest to the antenna.

EWG concludes that the existing RF exposure limits should not be applied to 5G technologies or to RF emissions above the 6 GHz range. We urge the commission to withdraw this proposal and to restart the exposure limits reevaluation process. The epidemiological and toxicological risks of RF exposure deserve thorough study if we are to protect the public health, especially that of our children, from excessive and potentially unsafe levels of exposures to RF emissions.

5G Crisis has provided instructions and a link on how everyone can comment on the proposed rules.  Comments are due by Wednesday June 3, 2020.

Despite increasing American 5G opposition, the FCC is using the pandemic as an excuse to speed up deployment (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and approve WiFi 6 even though since 2018 there have been reports of people and animals getting sick after 5G was turned on (see 1. 2, 3, 4).  Additionally, exposure to all sources of wireless radiation reduces immunity to illnesses AND causes other health issues AND increases cancer risk!

People worldwide DO NOT WANT 5G installed in their communities because of risks it poses to biological health (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), cybersecurity (see 1, 2), environmental health (see 1, 2, 3, 4), privacy (see 1, 2), safety, and more.  Many cities and countries have taken action against it including banning it, issuing moratoriums, passing ordinances, etc. (see 1, 2).

Thanks to these organizations for providing updated resources to Americans fighting 5G in their communities:
