Since 2004, The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) has opposed the use of their stations for cell towers and antennas because of health risks from exposure. Their website lists research from multiple sources proving harm from exposure – including research done on firefighters themselves.
Clusters of illness are not uncommon near cell towers and exposure can cause more than increased cancer risk. No “safe” level of wireless radiation exposure has even been scientifically determined for children or pregnant women.
Current laws allow the Telecom Industry to pretty much do whatever they want – including installing cell towers and antennas almost everywhere. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is supposed to regulate this industry and protect the public. They haven’t been doing this for many years and it’s only getting worse despite increasing public opposition.
Now FCC employees are brazenly promoting the industry’s 4G and 5G small cell technology and encouraging its forced installation in front of homes, hospitals, schools, and of course, fire stations. The FCC is simultaneously being investigated for collusion with the Telecom Industry on federal legislation that eliminated municipal control over the installation small cells. This would be hilarious if installation hadn’t already been happening all over the country and people and animals weren’t getting sick and sometimes putting their houses up for sale.
The Telecom Industry testified in February that they can’t prove 5G is safe but even that hasn’t slowed down FCC efforts to install it everywhere anyway. Again – this would be hilarious if it wasn’t actually happening…
So if anyone gives you a hard time about why you don’t want this infrastructure installed near homes, hospitals, schools, fire stations, etc., feel free to tell them about the firefighters’ opposition. Maybe that’ll learn ‘em.
