Yellowstone Supervolcano Alert: The Most Dangerous Volcano In America Is Roaring To Life

Michael Snyder
Activist Post

Right now, the ground underneath Yellowstone National Park is rising at a record rate. In fact, it is rising at the rate of about three inches per year. The reason why this is such a concern is because underneath the park sits the Yellowstone supervolcano – the largest volcano in North America. Scientists tell us that it is inevitable that it will erupt again one day, and when it does the devastation will be almost unimaginable.

A full-blown eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano would dump a 10-foot-deep layer of volcanic ash up to 1,000 miles away, and it would render much of the United States uninhabitable. When most Americans think of Yellowstone, they tend to conjure up images of Yogi Bear and “Old Faithful”, but the truth is that sleeping underneath Yellowstone is a volcanic beast that could destroy our nation in a single day and now that beast is starting to wake up.

The Yellowstone supervolcano is so vast that it is hard to put it into words.  According to the Daily Mail, the magma “hotspot” underneath Yellowstone is approximately 300 miles wide…
The Yellowstone Caldera is one of nature’s most awesome creations and sits atop North America’s largest volcanic field.
Its name means ‘cooking pot’ or ‘cauldron’ and it is formed when land collapses following a volcanic explosion.
In Yellowstone, some 400 miles beneath the Earth’s surface is a magma ‘hotspot’ which rises to 30 miles underground before spreading out over an area of 300 miles across.
Atop this, but still beneath the surface, sits the slumbering volcano.

When most Americans think of volcanic eruptions in the United States, they remember the catastrophic eruption of Mount St. Helens back in 1980.  But that eruption would not even be worth comparing to a full-blown eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano.

And now the area around Yellowstone is becoming increasingly seismically active.  In fact, Professor Bob Smith says that he has never seen anything like this in the 53 years that he has been watching Yellowstone
Until recently, Bob Smith had never witnessed two simultaneous earthquake swarms in his 53 years of monitoring seismic activity in and around the Yellowstone Caldera.
Now, Smith, a University of Utah geophysics professor, has seen three swarms at once.
In September, 130 earthquakes hit Yellowstone over the course of a single week.  This has got many Yellowstone observers extremely concerned
Yellowstone’s recent earthquake swarms started on Sept. 10 and were shaking until about 11:30 a.m. Sept. 16.
“A total of 130 earthquakes of magnitude 0.6 to 3.6 have occurred in these three areas, however, most have occurred in the Lower Geyser Basin,” a University of Utah statement said. “Notably much of seismicity in Yellowstone occurs as swarms.”
So what is the worst case scenario?

Well, according to the Daily Mail, a full-blown eruption of Yellowstone could leave two-thirds of the United States completely uninhabitable…
It would explode with a force a thousand times more powerful than the Mount St Helens eruption in 1980.
Spewing lava far into the sky, a cloud of plant-killing ash would fan out and dump a layer 10ft deep up to 1,000 miles away.
Two-thirds of the U.S. could become uninhabitable as toxic air sweeps through it, grounding thousands of flights and forcing millions to leave their homes.
Can you think of another potential disaster that could accomplish the same thing?

That is why what is going on at Yellowstone right now is so important, and the American people deserve the truth.  The following are some more facts about Yellowstone that I compiled that I included in a previous article

#1 A full-scale eruption of Yellowstone could be up to 1,000 time more powerful than the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980.

#2 A full-scale eruption of Yellowstone would spew volcanic ash 25 miles up into the air.

#3 The next eruption of Yellowstone seems to be getting closer with each passing year.  Since 2004, some areas of Yellowstone National Park have risen by as much as 10 inches.

#4 There are approximately 3,000 earthquakes in the Yellowstone area every single year.

#5 In the event of a full-scale eruption of Yellowstone, virtually the entire northwest United States will be completely destroyed.

#6 A massive eruption of Yellowstone would mean that just about everything within a 100 mile radius of Yellowstone would be immediately killed.

#7 A full-scale eruption of Yellowstone could also potentially dump a layer of volcanic ash that is at least 10 feet deep up to 1,000 miles away.

#8 A full-scale eruption of Yellowstone would cover virtually the entire midwest United States with volcanic ash.  Food production in America would be almost totally wiped out.

#9 The “volcanic winter” that a massive Yellowstone eruption would cause would radically cool the planet.  Some scientists believe that global temperatures would decline by up to 20 degrees.

#10 America would never be the same again after a massive Yellowstone eruption.  Some scientists believe that a full eruption by Yellowstone would render two-thirds of the United States completely uninhabitable.

#11 Scientists tell us that it is not a matter of “if” Yellowstone will erupt but rather “when” the next inevitable eruption will take place.

What makes all of this even more alarming is that a number of other very prominent volcanoes around the world are starting to roar back to life right now as well.

For example, an Inquisitr article from back in July described how “the most dangerous volcano in Mexico” is starting to become extremely active…
Popocatepetl Volcano is at it again. The active volcano near Mexico City erupted again this morning, spewing ash up into the sky.
The volcano is currently in the middle of an extremely active phase. According to the International Business Times, the volcano has registered 39 exhalations in the last 24 hours.
An eruption earlier this month caused several flights to be canceled in and out of Mexico City.
The BBC notes that officials raised the alert level yellow following Popocateptl’s eruption on Saturday morning. Yellow is the third-highest caution level on the city’s seven step scale.
And an NBC News article from August noted that one of the most dangerous volcanoes in Japan has erupted 500 times so far this year…
Ash wafted as high as 3 miles above the Sakurajima volcano in the southern city of Kagoshima on Sunday afternoon, forming its highest plume since the Japan Meteorological Agency started keeping records in 2006. Lava flowed just over half a mile from the fissure, and several huge volcanic rocks rolled down the mountainside.
Though the eruption was more massive than usual, residents of the city of about 600,000 are used to hearing from their 3,664-foot neighbor. Kagoshima officials said in a statement that this was Sakurajima’s 500th eruption this year alone.
So what does all of this mean?

Are we now entering a time when volcanic eruptions will become much more common all over the globe?

Could we rapidly be approaching the day when an absolutely devastating volcanic eruption will paralyze much of North America?

It's scary but I have a question. When Yellowstone blows what will become of any nuclear power plants in vicinity of the volcanic fallout? This is assuming that there are some in 1000 mile fallout zone around Yellowstone.

This article points out that 130 earthquakes in September is something serious but then goes on to say it's always have 3,000 per year... that

There is so much to think about in the world and universe right now, and this article is harping about the Caldera? An Asteroid could do the same damage if not worse, and a simple EMP would wipe out all power and shut down reactors everywhere. We've created so much on this planet, and planted our machine roots so deep that any disaster will lead us into yet more disaster until we are back to the ol days, walking, talking, planting, hunter gathering, and hopefully not fighting.....

The nuclear plants will be covered in ash and forgotten for thousands of years.

@Anonymous - if Yellowstone erupts it really would not matter now would it. I have watched the movie Supervolcano. this is done in a documentary style, it is the best way to understand what would happen to America if this should happen, well not if, but when.

"So what does all of this mean?"

It's difficult to know for sure. Chances are if it does go; it'll be followed by Rhyolitic and then Basaltic lava flow eruptions again like it did something to the effect of 40,000 for the later and 70,000 for the former.

"Are we now entering a time when volcanic eruptions will become much more common all over the globe?"

If we're being objectively honest, it is a strong possibility. The Cretaceous was certainly more intense in terms of volcanic and seismic activity; it would certainly stand to reason that it could ramp back up. It certainly makes me wonder how involved convection is in tectonic activities, but we don't know if subduction causes convection or vice versa.

"Could we rapidly be approaching the day when an absolutely devastating volcanic eruption will paralyze much of North America?"

If we go strictly by the estimated cycles? Lake Toba, Long Valley, and Yellowstone seem to be over due. Lake Taupo would be the youngest, and I'm not sure if Valley Grande is still active off hand. Similarly Cascadia is believed to be past due, and we past the initial estimate for New Madrid in 2012 of 200 years and now 300-400 years since roughly 2009/2010. Moment Magnitude certainly doesn't help matters here as it reduces the San Fran quake from 8.3 ml to 7.7 mw. Then, there's the adjusted recordings that changed multiple times between 2007-2011 (I'll have to double check for accuracy, but domestic and international records went from 1.5 and scaled up to about 2.5 domestically and scaled from 2.5-4.0 internationally).

"This article points out that 130 earthquakes in September is something serious but then goes on to say it's always have 3,000 per year... that

Perhaps, I can help clear this one up for you. Ground Deformation cupped with increased proximity of earthquakes particularly earthquake storms are not good signs particularly not mentioned is the depths, which I've slackened with observing the international intrigue of late. Off top of my head, the locations are also centered around what is believed to be resurgent domes of the caldera; these are regions believed to be left over from its last major eruption and the regions prune to the most extreme of the ground deformation uplifting. What is also interesting is also when the earthquakes, resurgent domes, and ground deformation mapping cross-referenced, these regions match nearly perfectly. The closest parallel I can give you is labor. If the woman's contractions are within 2-5 minutes, she is extremely close to going into active labor, or the volcano is steadily building pressure from moving magma (I suspect the focuses may provide data as to determining tectonic V magmatic, but the article doesn't discuss it).
Does this help? Yellowstone, Long Valley, Valley Grande (provided, it's still active), Lake Toba, and Lake Taupo are volcanoes with incredible destructive power. Lake Toba is believed to have erupted during a climatic shift driving the planet into an ice age and causing a bottle-neck that nearly drove the human species to extinction or within 5,000-10,000 child-bearing women worldwide. If history is any indication, preparedness should be a priority; due to, these are Mother Nature's hydrogen bombs.

Actually the article said 130 earthquakes per week. It's over twice as much as 3,000 per year. I believe the Maya said that we would be traveling through the dark rift about now. And Voyager, after punching through the Heliosphere, observed that we are traveling through a region of space where the particles are highly charged. Much the same when as when a spacecraft enters the atmosphere and the heat generated from the friction of the particle. Or our planet is getting ready to rid itself of the toxic disease called Homo Sapien.

Npw many will understand why the most massive Federal and military underground systems are in the southern states.
If the Yellowstone caldera were to explode at its maximum potential the shaking of this land mass called North America from Mexico to the artic would topple almost every multi story structure.
And the following months of aftrrshocks would most likely exceed any of mans scale.
So what to do?
Well clam digging opens on Washington beaches and hunting season begins soon.
This month over 150 kids and adults will trick or treat my doorway. Next month I hope all get together on Thanksgiving.
In December is Christmas, my wife and my 47th amniversary and on last day or night of the year I will watch the noght sky hoping and wishing that she can still know I miss her greatly.
On the first day Happy New Years to all.
Yes we will live as if there is but one other choice and if need be we may be lucky enough to die as Herod to our loved ones because we fpught the good fight.

But first better check for volcanic activity. earth quakes, tsunamis. etc. Oh, and don't forget the death comet or plagues, virus's wild animals, criminals, lunatics, poison spiders and snakes, fire ants, Asian hornets, killer bees, etc., etc. Hell, if you're worried about any or all the above just kill yourself now and get it over with.

You said yourself that "the American people deserve the truth." Here it is ...

You are talking about a Supervolcano. This is a geological phenomenon that scientists are discussing and researching for few years now. And there is no serious scientist, or volcanologist in particular, who would ever venture to tell you when a certain volcano or supervolcano will erupt. All they can say is that Yellowstone will erupt soon.

But what is soon, from a geological point of view? Is it tomorrow, or in a year or in 10 years? Or is it even in more than 10,000 years? Nobody can tell.

Yes, there is some probability for you or me to see this happen. And when it will happen, it might even cause the beginning of the next ice age.
But no, there is no greater probability for Yellowstone to erupt during the next few decades than for you or me to win the jackpot in a lottery during this month.

i suppose the worst case scenario MUST play out . . .

It's not like there is any possibility that pressures could be relieved by a volcano WITHOUT blowing everything up. i'd always thought that the explosion thing was kind of optional and somewhat arbitrary. With only portions rising so much it SEEMS that an uplift MAY turn into more volcanic activity, but that doesn't mean that an entire huge super-caldera is DEFINITELY going to blow.

Soap opera stuff? Drama queen leanings? I know, let's use that color thingie alert and get everyone running in circles with nothing to be done about the fear, OK?

The problem, one of the problems, with being an atheist or an agnostic, is that you condemn yourself to being lost and alone on a tiny planet at some obscure corner of a galaxy drowned amongst amongst billions of others; and also to any and all of the vagaries of what you believe are random and meaningless events, eg the cataclysmic exploding of a supervolcano. Life for such a person is ultimately terrifying, meaningless, and absurd. There are some posting here who are implicitly seeking death in the face of such enormous events. They are simply too horrible to contemplate.
Contrariwise, if you believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God who lived and walked amongst us for a few short years, and died for each and every one of us, and knows the beginning from the end, and created this world we live upon, and everything that is in it, both visible and invisible, then you are truly blessed. "Great peace have they which love Thy law, and nothing shall offend them".
This great God has left nothing to chance. His great Plan was manifested in the very first word He spoke to us, "Barasheet", or "In the beginning" as the KJV would have it. Barasheet can be read as the sum of each of its individual letters; Hebrew is unique, I believe, in that each of its letters means something. So this First Great Word can be read as "The Son of God will die by His own hand upon a cross". God knew "from the beginning" what He would do; the ensuing 66 books of the Bible then elaborate upon this first transcendental Word. His very Name, YHVH, can be similarly treated. It means "Behold the Hand, Behold the Nail". I will not insult your intelligence by explaining why that revelation is beyond profound in its implications.
Let us take comfort, one and all, from the words of Paul the apostle.
"But let no man deceive you by any means, for that Day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped, so that he as God sitteth in the Temple of God, showing himself that he is God".
This divine utterance informs us that before the end, a Temple must be built. This has not yet occurred.
Before the end, one must come who brings down fire from heaven in the sight of men, such that they worship him, and believe that he is the Son of God returned as prophesied. This individual will however be one who has just been cast out of heaven. We are told that "And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world". I have explained to you how this statement comes from the very first word God spoke to us through Moses.
Your sole task is to ask that Great God to pardon your sins, for which He died on your behalf.
"Ask, and ye shall receive".
Do not fear bodily death; rather, fear the eternal death ( not torment ) which awaits those who refuse this greatest of all gifts.
This is the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Not likely in the near future but still could happen tomorrow. There is no way of preparing for such a cataclysmic event of this proportion. As far as nuclear plants possibly affected by an eruption, only Palo Verde nuclear plant in Arizona and one in southern Cali would be in the path of the maximum ash fall.

Anonymous said...

Two nuclear power plants being hit by maximum ash fall is enough to cause problems for the whole of America especially when part of the power grid would be down for months due to ash fall out. Nuclear power plants have backup generators but that is only going to last them a few weeks at most. Damaged nuclear power plants melting down will be a secondary nightmare for America after Yellowstone blows someday. Let's hope those nuclear power plants are long gone by the time Yellowstone does blow. We don’t need to make a bad situation even worse.

In 1996, at the International Geological Conference, the Yellowstone supercaldera was the key subject. At that time, and for 5 years thereafter, the temperatures in the large lake at Yellowstone had been going up significantly yearly. Now that the land is rising, and the other volcanoes are moving, what is the US going to do? Close the area, evacuate people from 500 miles, etc. In other words, this may be the reason for the FEMA camps and FEMA gun/bullets acquisitions in recent months. As you can see from the pictures, this will dramatically affect large urban centers like Denver, Chicago, Omaha, Cheyenne, etc., etc.

Have spoken to two truck drivers in denver recently. Both had stories of taking loads of supplies into under ground facilities in the area. One location being very close if not underneath D.I.A. He could not tell if it was actually under it or not, just knew the general direction of the destination was heading toward it. Could this be preparation for something like yellowstone,or something more sinister? Not to promote fear mongering or fear based posts at all, but things need to be talked through in order for us all to find the truth. Keep talking if it scares you grab a blankie, but keep reading, find your own opinion, let it ring true within you. Then spread your truth backed by fact, and explain your positionn so that all those that are listening to you might start their own path to truth, and awarness. Wake up!!!! We are in a consience revolution. Things are changing all around us at rapid speeds. Keep up or be left behind!!!!

Seen2013 said...

"what is the US going to do?"

The government really isn't going to do anything. Most vehicle's engines don't take kindly to ash. If it erupts, it'll be up to the populace in the effected areas to store, produce, and create their own preparations, search and rescue, and so forth.

"Well, you know there's not a lot to be done about continental scale potential disasters other than perhaps hoping to die before they hit."

Rather Nihilist don't you think? Sure, people's standard of living and life of luxury won't be sustained in the effected areas regardless of the preparation; however, preparedness and networking to counter the effects will certainly be strategically beneficial rather than surrendering to hopelessness. It'd certainly be rough, but it's not impossible.

"Chill. Worry about the goddamned shutdown of the government. You can DO something about that."

Actually, it's about the same. The shutdown was effectively politically motivated; it didn't matter how many people were effected unless it furthered a political ideology. It's really simple. ACA requires the debt ceiling to be dissolved, which is effectively the US parallel to the Weimar Agreement. Or, it's not funded, and we immediately default on the loans. It essentially means using a catch-22 to further a ideological goal, and we effectively have no real say in solving that issue as either way the confidence and faith in the US credit/economy and currency is effectively destroyed. Considering, many nations have signed trade agreements removing the Dollar; the confidence and credit is already shattered.

In either case, the obvious counter is to prepare for it rather than take comfort for granted.

"what would be the global effects?"

Depends on the eruption and the severity

Wait... You used sources from the Daily Mail? Seriously? The Daily Mail are renowned for exaggerating the truth and acting as scaremongerers in order to sell their papers. Don't believe anything they write. Ever.

And to the main point. None of us are ready for an eruption from Yellowstone, or any of the supervolcanoes that could blow any day. The only way to prepare is to find a place that won't be affected by the ashfall, buy plenty of non-perishable food, and buy water, respirators and goggles.
Any eruption from a Supervolcano would be big. Look how Mt. Tambora affected us in it's 1815 eruption. That was a VEI 7. While not nearly as big or powerful as Yellowstone, it was big enough to cause a famine and make global temperatures plummet. The Year Without a Summer, as it was known.
But look how Toba affected us. It wiped out the majority of the population of early humans, severely affecting the gene pool.

No one knows when it'll happen. But when they start hearing harmonic tremors... Well, I'd prepare. And fast.

Yeah, wonder what everyone will comment now. It's possible scientists are being forced to tell the public"there's no threat of an eruption in near future" if they said it's going to happen within the month the panic it would cause could be bout as bad as the eruption itself. Or people would just be in disbelief, not do anything. It's smart to prepare your family for anything to happen tho. Stock up can, box food. Water. I have faith. I die, I know where I'll be goin. I just worry bout those that deny Jesus as our savior. Prayer works. May God see us through.

Don't be so gullible boys and girls! Throwing out facts about earthquakes and the ground rising without context is next to meaningless. Notice that in the summary of 11 facts, only #3 and #4 have anything to do with "indicators". The rest are predictions of what happens IF an eruption occurs. #3 and #4 don't say whether the rise in ground level or the number of volcanoes is in any way unusual, but it IMPLIES that it is. Pretty non-scientific. One true statement is that it is not a matter of if, but when. Just like it's not a matter of IF you are going to die, but when. Or that the sun will go nova, or that the universe will go dark one day billions of years in the future. Oh, and good luck with that Jesus thing.

I do know that the live webcams at Yellowstone have been down for several days -- when I go to USGS and clink on a link that's supposed to show recent earthquake activity at Yellowstone all I get is a blank page - and helicopters are being used to herd bison back into the park (they're trying to leave, for greener pastures, I presume). Maybe we'll know more if Old Faithful is opened to visitors on schedule (April 18).

It is going to erupt and I predict it will happen before June of 2015. Our government has already sent out what I'll call "request" to harbor American refuges. Australia, Spain, Europe. Half of them have sent back their replies saying that they don't feel comfortable housing that many people, because of overpopulation. Start doing research before you state you opinion. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER PEOPLE and from 75% of what I've read here, you're either a bible hugger thinking it's jesus going to make this volcano erupt (stupid) a plain idiot, or an actual informed citizen . To those who have done their research kudos to you, You will end up being some of the few who survive.
