UK Internet Filter to Also Block Conspiracy Theories

Big Brother Weds the Nanny Who's Pregnant with Internet Censorship.

Here is the real problem with the Internet

The totalitarian tip-toe is tap dancing to tyranny with the proposed Internet censorship bill in the United Kingdom. In the name of keeping children safe from porn, the UK law will impose Internet filters on far more than just porn.

According to Wired:
As well as pornography, users may automatically be opted in to blocks on "violent material", "extremist related content", "anorexia and eating disorder websites" and "suicide related websites", "alcohol" and "smoking". But the list doesn't stop there. It even extends to blocking "web forums" and "esoteric material", whatever that is. "Web blocking circumvention tools" is also included, of course.
The definition of "esoteric" makes clear that censorship of broad topics is the goal of this so-called ISP filter:
es·o·ter·ic [es-uh-ter-ik] adjective
1. understood by or meant for only the select few who have special knowledge or interest;
2. belonging to the select few.
3. private; secret; confidential.

Translation: anything outside the acceptable mainstream narrative will be filtered. In short, the free flow of information is under assault with this law.

The organization Open Rights Group refers to this totalitarian tip-toe as "sleepwalking into censorship":
What's clear here is that David Cameron wants people to sleepwalk into censorship. We know that people stick with defaults: this is part of the idea behind 'nudge theory' and 'choice architecture' that is popular with Cameron.
The implication is that filtering is good, or at least harmless, for anyone, whether adult or child. Of course, this is not true; there's not just the question of false positives for web users, but the affect on a network economy of excluding a proportion of a legitimate website's audience.
Open Rights also says the law could be used to play economic favorites, thus undermining the free market on the Internet:
There comes a point that it is simply better to place your sales through Amazon and ebay, and circulate your news and promotions exclusively through Facebook and Twitter, as you know none of these will ever be filtered.
It seems Western government's voracity for Internet censorship has increased many fold since the Snowden revelations about digital spying.

Direct Internet censorship was imposed on millions of U.S. government computers blocking them from viewing any material related to the Snowden leak, which at the time of the leak and even now represents a large percentage of all political and technical news stories.

And as John Naughton of the Guardian points out today, the real story about the Snowden leak that everyone is ignoring are the implications on Internet freedom, which he lists as the following:
The first is that the days of the internet as a truly global network are numbered. It was always a possibility that the system would eventually be Balkanised, ie divided into a number of geographical or jurisdiction-determined subnets as societies such as China, Russia, Iran and other Islamic states decided that they needed to control how their citizens communicated. Now, Balkanisation is a certainty.
Second, the issue of internet governance is about to become very contentious. Given what we now know about how the US and its satraps have been abusing their privileged position in the global infrastructure, the idea that the western powers can be allowed to continue to control it has become untenable.
Third, as Evgeny Morozov has pointed out, the Obama administration's "internet freedom agenda" has been exposed as patronising cant. "Today," he writes, "the rhetoric of the 'internet freedom agenda' looks as trustworthy as George Bush's 'freedom agenda' after Abu Ghraib."
As a final note, porn filters already exist for parents in the private marketplace if they choose to use them.  So, there is no need for governments to make them mandatory, which indicates that the real agenda behind these new proposed laws is much more about censorship than protecting children.

please, Mr Internet Censor, do not allow me to even set eyes upon unapproved thoughts.

Perhaps, in the future, bloggers and commenters will responsibly express their ideas by assembling from collections of officially approved paragraphs and sentences.

Hi my name is Chris G with a K at the end of my name .Many times minorities and children have in their thoughts what they would like to become when their positivity has become not taken for granted, their parents often beat you up and take out the belt,"ahh" loud hip hop, my ears " I would not like to become subject to after warded pornographick censorships, although many may look to examine the avoidance of the goal including myself, it only occasionally flashes us without our acceptions while we search for the money to buy the box of pecan ice cream. Even thought we as Minorities have been looked down upon after wards must become useful adult that must be able to consent, stop, all i can say is avoid pornographic censorships instead of graduating your pocket full of web flashes and grandiose wallet completely packed of notes. Lets drop some of all this knowledge - These days we look up to the sun during the day but when it goes down we are perplexed if it has the ability to become the moon .

governments dont make laws jurys do, governments pass LEGISLATION.

All Acts of Parliament are ‘statutes’ known variously as legislation, regulations or rules. They are not laws. Statutes are often incorrectly referred to as laws by ‘trained’ barristers and solicitors, but the correct interpretation would be ‘black letter law’ (meaning statutes) which are distinguishable from ‘law’ i.e. common law - and for a purpose, the purpose being that statutes and laws are different. If Acts of Parliament were laws they would be called ‘Laws of Parliament.’ Parliament knows the distinction which it quite rightly maintains. Look at any Act of Parliament and you will notice the absence of the word law – that will give you the first clue that there is a difference. Parliament maintains the distinction between statutes and laws because those ‘in the know’ use this knowledge for their personal benefit.

Will a freedom of information request return the list of blocked sites so I don't have to search them out for myself?

Open Rights is incorrect when it says that Facebook is out of reach of censors. It was a CIA-funded project to start with and Mike Adams of NaturalNews.com and many others will tell you how many times their articles, videos and pictures were censored. Many finally went to Disqus in order to shut Facebook out completely. During the March Against Monsanto on May 25th, many people tried to upload pictures of the march in their city...pictures were blocked out, prevented from being downloaded.

The "child-porn" laws were NEVER about porn.
These laws were designed as the "thin wedge"
to get censorship technology and acceptance
in the door.

When will Britain remember what happened to them in World War 2. When they do, they won't repeat the same mistakes such as book burning (internet censorship)? Handing themselves over to the Nazis like before.

I've been surfing the Internet now for over ten years and have found that if you aren't looking for porn then you don't come across porn on the Internet. It's like browsing in a newsagents. You know where the porn magazines are. If you want porn, you look on the shelf which has the porn magazines. If you're not looking for pornographic magazines in the newsagents then it is easy to avoid them. The Internet is similar.
There are several issues surrounding the banning of porn from the Internet.
Firstly, will "they" stop at porn? How long will it take before political protest is banned? It is banned already in many countries.
Secondly, I don't need the government telling me what is and what isn't good for me, okay? As a "for example", recently the EPA allowed a 3000% increase in food pesticides. THe EPA also raised allowable levels of Roundup pesticide from 200ppm to 6000ppm. Then read this: "The White House has given final approval for dramatically raising permissible radioactive levels in drinking water and soil following “radiological incidents,” such as nuclear power-plant accidents and dirty bombs. The final version, slated for Federal Register publication as soon as today, is a win for the nuclear industry which seeks what its proponents call a “new normal” for radiation exposure among the U.S population, according Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER)" (Global Research, April 14, 2013). Governments are corporate prostitutes, in other words.
Thirdly, the Internet is the way for ordinary people to organize together to change the world for the better. The rich and powerful fear progressive change as it endangers their parasitic lifestyle. This is the reason for the focus now on limiting access to the Internet. It's always about our safety. These matters are always couched in terms of how necessary changes are to protect people and to safeguard our freedoms. You have to look behind the public relations facade.

"The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it."

UK people make sure to get http://www.immunicity.org/getstarted

And also get the Tor Browser Bundle (https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html) and some .onion sites together as well as freenet & i2p in case it'll be hard to find circumvention tools after this gets implemented.

European Convention on Human Rights

Article 10 – Freedom of expression

1. Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers. This article shall not prevent States from requiring the licensing of broadcasting, television or cinema enterprises.

2. The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society, in the interests of national security, territorial integrity or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or rights of others, for preventing the disclosure of information received in confidence, or for maintaining the authority and impartiality of the judiciary.

i.e. Everybody has the right to 'freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers.'

There will be legal challenges preventing this from being rubber stamped.

It's blatantly obvious it's not about porn, but about the thin end of the wedge of Government control: note how many MILLIONS of adults are single, or who have NO children, so why would the Government NOT have mentioned them?
The Government aka all 'good' dictators, doesn't like freedom of thought, they want you to be controlled by THEM; servants do NOT dictate to their masters, unless they don't consider themselves servants.

What amazes me is that they don't realize they are condemning themselves right along with their detractors.

This is great news, sooner the internet is down the better everyone will be for it. Dont spit on me like a spoiled kid getting his toys took off him.

They shouldnt be talking about filters, they should be talking on how to bring the entire thing crashing down and destroyed forever. The world was alot better before the internet. There will be enough people to get this passed and then its only a matter of time before the rest of it is taken down.

Am not a sheep and yes i am awake

1) There is zero difference between UK inet censors and all others USA, EU, ...what one does, they all do or will soon follow; it's called NWO by many, or One World Government, etc., but there is zero difference between all western "censors"- period.
2) These self-proclaimed authorities have been attempting to censor truth as porn for several years already - including this site
3) The NWO will fail

Non-Kosher sites will definitely be blocked by the zionist controlled government.

Anonymous said...

There are quite a few campaigning websites that accuse various government agencies of covering up large scale child abuse and protecting high level paedophiles. Also, real-world campaigners for the truth are being persecuted and silenced. If the government censorship stops access to these websites it will have the effect of protecting these alleged, elite criminals even more. Just a coincidence, no doubt.

So what happens when we choose to opt out rather than to opt in? The information we need to make a choice seems to be very thin on the ground. If we choose to keep the pornography filter on does that mean we also have to keep the filter for everything else turned on too? Very confusing...I'd rather keep my eye on everything my kids are watching via the internet, than agree to mass censorship. I agree with another post that said pornography doesn't just pop up you have to search for it. I'm fed up with the nanny state making choices for me.

I was in the UK in 2002 and, needing an internet connection, went into the local library (Fareham, Hants) where I attempted to access "Whatreallyhappened dot com". It had been blocked. I raised this point with the librarian, who told me it was done because of "language not suitable for children". I responded that this was complete nonsense because it was a news site. After a few days of haggling with them about it, they unblocked the site - but what a hassle.

They are very probably going to censor "raw food" websites and "alternative health" websites which is really terrifying when you think about it.
Finally people have been coming to realise how important fixing their health for themselves is and now this, the government are going to do everything to get this information out of the media so that our only choice is to listen to health and news information through their narrow, negative, false scope. It's terrifying when you think about it.
Also spiritual websites will probably be blocked too, basically anything that goes against the one message those at the top want us to believe and listen to.
I don't want to believe in a conspiracy because it's really worrying but fuck they don't half make it difficult, like could they make it anymore obvious that they're hell bent on control?!
I believe the world's in a transitional period where many people are beginning to realise they want change, they want to unify against oppression and all the things that have brought humanity down. The old ways are still clinging on though, those at the top are trying to grasp their last shreds of hope in controlling the world. But it is changing, whether they like it or not, it is. I can feel it and I'm sure many other people can too.
We can do it guys, we will do it. In many ways we already are. I think we just need to unify and speak about the positive changes being made in the real world.
If they get away with censoring the internet (which they better not, I hope Anonymous do something about it) then I promise to start speaking up about raw foods and alternative health and unity in real life. So that we can make changes anyways. There's nothing they can do to stop is. Not really. It's changing, there's a revolution coming on.
