I have been wondering for years where the whole "end of times" prophecy came from regarding the Mayans in the first place.
Christian theology believes in such an event, but the Mayans only ever talked about the transition from one age to the next age.
The end of an age is not the same thing as the end of the world(non-symbolically speaking), and we've got a 25 year window of transition to get through before the next age officially begins(if the last age actually ended this year).
Sadly I've already seen and heard numerous comments about the Mayans "being wrong" despite the fact there was nothing for them to be wrong about.
Modern hype and the mixing of Mayan culture and mythology with Christian doomsday mythology is what was/is wrong, not the Mayans.
It would be awesome to spend the day at a Mayan temple though regardless, once in a Lifetime experience for sure.
