Can a country like Greece have a genuine democracy when an unelected international agency forces tax-and-spend policies down their throat? If a sovereign nation cannot determine how much to tax it's own citizens and what services to offer, what power does the people's government actually have to govern?
Even the Greek parliament that just approved the very unpopular austerity package in Greece is lacking legitimacy, but the policy was demanded by the EU/IMF to secure a second bailout and avoid national bankruptcy. See an explanation of their woeful approval ratings and democratic failings below:
The austerity package was also demanded by the "appointed" Prime Minister Lucas Papademos who, not surprisingly, is the former vice president of the European Central Bank.
Papademos threatened lawmakers before the vote that they "would be gravely mistaken if they rejected the package."
"It would be a huge historical injustice if the country from which European culture sprang ... reached bankruptcy and was led, due to one more mistake, to national isolation and national despair," he said.
If massive austerity cuts, surrendered sovereignty, and runaway riots burning down the streets is not "national despair", I'm not sure what is.
Greece is the classic "Economic Hitman" scenario where international banks make phony debts so large they can never be repaid; pretending as if the loans were going to help the people, when really they just went to political insiders and the banksters who created them. They follow by forcing bankruptcy to demand even more debt to solve the problem of debt, and when that has been exhausted the bankers come for their "pound of flesh", as they're doing now.
This pound of flesh is taking the form of higher taxes, deep cuts to public jobs, pensions, and services, and even the fire-sale privatization of entire islands. Oh, and national sovereignty, but that seems to have already disappeared well before this current round of blood sucking.
And as the police (who surely are included in the majority opposed to this measure), battle the angry citizens on the streets, we must begin to question the very foundation of representative democracy once international banks set a nation's policy.
Does the above video resemble the birthplace of democracy? How far must this continue to erode before international banksters are exposed as the fascist dictators they truly are?

They're going to be 'gravely' mistaken if they accept the package. That's the operative word here - grave i.e burial plot suitable for burying.
We should all be taking notes so we know how to
handle ourselves when these scenes come to

Yes, those foreign nations can determine what Greece's taxes & benefits to its people are if those foreign nations will be the ones paying for it!
If Greece didn't have such high deficits (for paying big salaries & pensions to government unions)they would be in this position.
It's obvious that the people don't have representation. I think this is true in most democratic societies. Once basic essentials are threatened... food, shelter, the ability to earn a living... etc.. then the fake veneer of the people's will through democracy comes right off like hot butter sliding off a knife.
This is a failure of the system and the lack of education and vigilance of the Greek people. Although, I do want to add that the 'democratic' system does it's best to work against education and civic responsibility of it's people.
These riots need to escalate into a change of leadership. I think the problem with all of these revolutions around the world is that they really need to apply on many levels, economically, socially, but within the individuals soul.
At least the Greeks didn't create massive debt fighting phony wars for Israel.
It seems that the Greek "democracy" is the same as the American one--bought and paid for. Let's hope that Americans get the message and put up as much ruckus when the banksters come to finish off our country.
FUCK THESE BANKSTER ROTTON BASTARDS!
Sovereignty? Please, there is not a sovereign nation left in the western world. Its a fool's paradise to think we have sovereignty, democracy or personal freedoms.
It's a joke, the narrative of politics. We are owned (registered at birth), penned (nationalism), trained (schooling and cultural myths) and work for subsistence (wage slaves), and we beg (vote) for mercy from our leaders (plutocracy pimps parading in politics).
In Greece there is genocide right now but we resist this junda and we win. Greeks know how to fight, believe us. The debt is not our. This is bankers debt and they pay for it. With easy way or the hard way...
kostas Greece
Screw the bankers, the Rothschilds (England), the Rockefellers (USA), the Bronfmans (Canada), the Jesuits (Society of Jesus - paedophile priests), the Vatican, puppet politicians and puppet monarchs, government, IMF, UN, NATO, secret societies, central & fractional reserve banking, IRS, taxes, wars, credit system, corporations, intelligence communities, media, haarp satellite technology (weather warfare),committee of 300 richest families, papal bloodline families, and the load of feces that have destroyed peoples, nations, economies. People need to stop submitting to these bastards who freeload off the common people and dictate what they can and can't do. The real ones in control at the top of this list are the Jesuits who have every world leader (coadjutors)by their testicles and fallopian tubes to kill any of them who disobey their orders; the Vatican papacy is no exception and is forced to submit!
Every country in the world indebted to the Banksters should go bankrupt and pay them the equivalent of pennies on the dollar. The repayment should be with money coined and printed by the nation state, not the Banksters.
END THE FED!

We all in this world worked and had a living untill for shortly, poor or rich. Suddenly the money is gone. Where has it gone? Well, we the people make money by contributing something to society. That’s the real money circuit. Others make money with money, they don’t contribute to our society but only suck real money out of your purse. Money is not a commodity but is for easying barter. When we put 100 dollar of our real money in a bank, the bank is allowed to lend out to the real moneymakers [us, workers] the tenfold of it or 1000 dollar that looks like money but is only credit, has not any value at all. Immediately they cash maybe 7% real money for it from you, or 70 dollar a year while you get 2% for your 10 dollar in the bank that make their business possible, so, 2 dollars. They make 35 times more than you do and on money that not even exists. With their profit [interest], being your real money from labor, they buy the world and return your real money to your real money circuit to start the game over and over again. That way they become richer and richer with fake money without contributing anything to society. They eventally finance wars to keep their business going. When they overdo this, the people are going short on it [real money from labor] and that causes the trouble in Greece. But don’t be afraid they are not the only ones, this is happening all over the world so stay put. Only realize that there are two money circuits: a real one and a fake one that is 10 times bigger and where the rich live on en keep us in the harness. Oh, there is a third circuit within the real money circuit from work: the black money circuit. But that is real money without paying tax for our society. In some countries it is 40% or more. Eliminate it and the country goes bankrupt. Everything claer now? It’s life. We are human beings with brains. Everybody is trying to live as comfortable as possible. Who not?
