Airport Body Scanners Under Pressure: Experts Now Warn X-ray Devices "could give you cancer"

dose of radiation may be
"20 times higher than estimated"
Activist Post

As we wrote in our newsletter this week: scanners and backscatter devices are under pressure from all sides.  Despite the best efforts of Michael Chertoff and the TSA, word is out that Backscatter X-ray scanner technology that is being used in airports is exceedingly harmful, along with being an invasion of privacy.

An increasing number of people are becoming informed and are deciding to opt-out of the radiation and the X-rated detail of you and your family.  Naturally, this has forced the TSA to threaten more invasive physical searches, as they try to coerce people into taking the "easier" option.  This is a sign of desperation, since the success of these machines in airports will determine the future of their presence throughout America. They already are being deployed in street roving vans, and are most likely headed to a mall near you if the public doesn't continue to raise its voice.

This Daily Mail article on the subject is another nail in the coffin for X-ray scanning technology.  Even if you don't care about privacy issues, the fact that experts are now saying that "radiation from the scanners has been underestimated," and that "because the beam concentrates on the skin -- one of the most radiation-sensitive organs of the human body -- that (the) dose may be up to 20 times higher than first estimated," should sound the final alarm.

G. Edward Griffin and Idaho state representative, Phil Hart, have made a strong case that the states have jurisdiction over this Federal program, which has yet to be approved by Congress.

The battle almost has been won before it began; with public support of proposed state legislation, we will see these machines sent to the waste bin where they belong.

No privacy. What is next?

Street roving vans now? This is going too far!

This is all down to the multiculturalism that has been forced on Western countries, since the 1960s and 1970s.

20-30 years ago we didn't need any of this nonsense, because in all of our countries, we were one nation and one people.

Now all of our personal freedoms including free movement and free speech, are under attack by the elites, because of their hair brained policies of multiculturalism at all costs!

I use to fly 2 or 3 times a year. I HAVE NOT flown in a plane since December of 2006, and WILL NOT fly again, unless I HAVE TO, then I WILL 'OPT-OUT'! No 'OPT-OUT', no flying EVER AGAIN!

Citizens should find other ways to Travel...When Airlines start losing money over the Intrusive Scans they will start removing the Hardware...

As a physician, The radiation type used in these Scanners is cancer causing and DNA destroying, this is fact. This is the wrong pathway to go down. The worst if for the TSA agents, as even being around this radiation for all day can cause Cancer.

Good Lord!! When is it too much for the People to stand up for their freedoms & fight tyranny?

Must read a book out where Americans do take a stand to tyranny. It's great cause it's about us & when we should start defending our families & freedoms.

It only took a tea tax in 1776 so I think we are beyond that right now.

the radiation used in these machines by TSA breaks the DNA strands tearing them apart, they are terrahertz waves radiation. i believe its more then security issue and is used by zionist jews to make people sick and ultimate death in short period of time to reduce world population.
being sick is also to go to their controlled pharmaceutical industry, they make money in every way of your life, literally!

Just want to say that although I agree with this article, several of my fellow commenters are absolutely bonkers. If these are the proponents of not having body scans in airports, it's going to be hard to be taken seriously. Guys, get over the paranoia. There are plenty of things to be upset about/scared about without blaming some phantom "they". Multiculturalism is to blame? Zionist Jews are to blame? Really, you sound just as crazy as the people trying to tell us we're safer as a result of body scans in airports.

Let's have an activist attorney create an "acceptance of responsibility and agreement to liability form" for the TSA agent to sign at the airport before the search is consented to. It should indicate the liability for contracting cancer, and a provision for image privacy. What do you think?

I'm not a lawyer, Bruce, but that sounds like an excellent idea. -- M.E.

I also don't fly anymore unless no other way. I think the idea of a waiver spelling out that the TSA and individual agents accept full responsibility for loss of privacy and/or any illness resulting from the scan is great. Also make it that they the individual agents as well as the TSA, the airports, the airlines are subject to being sued for damages. Of course you can do that now probably, but you have almost no chance of winning or even getting into court. I'm sure the agents and airports frown on video or voice recorders. I checked the TSA agents at the airports start out around 22-23k per yr and are considered part time meaning no benifits. If everybody started sueing them individually for invasion of privacy, and started calling the cops as soon as through the pat down and pressing charges as soon as these people had to hire a lawyer a few times, dismissed or not, I think things would become less intrusive. I hear turnover is huge now, can you imagine what it would be if they got sued six or eight times a day? To be fair, last time I flew was in 03 out of Syracuse NY and then back from Ontario CA, both times I was late, the security people were polite and helpful, doing their jobs and getting me to my plane. I was expecting the worst because of the stories and both times they were great. What's different now, that make it so much worse?

Be sure to Google: NO FLY DAY Nov 24th 2010

Bruce and Lee Murray, TSA employees don't make the rules, your government does. Get a clue. You get more radiation from your microwave and many other sources you encounter daily. I want to feel safe when I fly. Do you remember 911? Out of sight, out of mind huh? Sounds like you have your heads in the sand. Do you think we hear of all the things TSA have kept from getting through in our airport? I don't , just all the coplaints from people who probably don't even practice good health in the first place. They are afraid people are going to see what their big butts look like in the scanner or how small their privates are. If you don't get cancer from the scanners, you'll get it from something else. Probably something you come in contact with way more than an airport scanner.
