Innocent Man Beaten to Death in Jail After Being Sentenced to a Decade for Having Kratom

By Matt Agorist

Last week, the Free Thought Project delved into the deeply unsettling story of Shaina Brown, an Alabama resident facing a potential life sentence over the mere possession of kratom. In our coverage, we touched upon the tragic case of Marshall Price, another victim of the merciless war on drugs. This week, we continue our exposé by shifting our focus to Price’s case, highlighting the gruesome realities of this ongoing war on a widely beneficial plant.

Before moving into the details of Marshall’s story, it is important to point out the massive disinformation campaign waged by the media and the government over this plant. A recent story out of Florida is gaining traction and serves as a perfect example of this propaganda after a judge awarded the family of Krystal Talavera $11 million in a lawsuit. Talavera, who had life-threatening pre-existing conditions, died after ingesting a substance in a baggy that had “Space Dust” written on it with a sharpy. This is “kratom,” according to the media, which is unwilling to do even 30 seconds of research to find out the truth.

The court ruled that Talavera died from kratom, and the media ran with it. But this was simply not the case. Talavera ingested a highly potent and concentrated alkaloid extract of the kratom plant, not kratom leaves. This is the equivalent of extracting lethal doses of caffeine from the coffee bean and calling it “coffee.”

But that is not all, the corporate press also failed to report the results of Talavera’s autopsy, which were glaring. As Kratom Science reports:

Talavera’s autopsy report listed an enlarged heart, enlarged liver associated with liver or heart disease, a widened mediastinum which can be related to life-threatening dysfunction of the aorta, nephrosclerosis (hardening of the arteries in the kidneys caused by long-term untreated high blood pressure), and gastritis (inflammation of the stomach). The medical examiner’s report stated Talavera had “no known medical history”, and that, “Two weeks prior to her death, the decedent complained of stomach pain.” “Her biological father reportedly had heart valve disease”, the report also stated. Her cardiac pathology was classified as having “no histopathic change”.

New York Post and The Guardian did not mention Talavera’s pre-existing conditions, did not bother to differentiate between kratom extracts and plain leaf powder, and did not mention that “Space Dust” was an extremely strong extract.

Now that we see how the government and mainstream media present kratom to the masses, the recent push by the police state to criminalize it and the continued criminalization of it begins to make more sense. Unfortunately for Marshall Price, he was in a state where kratom was already viciously sought out in the failed campaign to control what humans can and can’t put into their own bodies.

Price was a 46-year-old resident of Arkansas who found himself at the center of a merciless war on drugs. His only crime? Purchasing kratom from a Missouri gas station and returning to his home state, where the herbal extract is classified as a Schedule I substance. The consequence was a draconian ten-year sentence — and, eventually, his life.

Marshall met with a tragic and suspicious end in the Greene County jail even before his sentence could properly begin. His postmortem report indicated a ruptured spleen, multiple broken ribs, a brain stem injury, and various other injuries suspiciously inconsistent with the official explanation given by the Sheriff’s Department.

According to the authorities, Marshall’s injuries were the result of a “consensual boxing match” in jail where the other participant allegedly had toilet paper and socks wrapped around his hands and landed just two punches. A direct contradiction to witness testimonies, the Sheriff’s Department’s narrative has raised more questions than answers.

Witnesses within the jail reported hearing Marshall crying for help for approximately five hours before any medical aid was provided. Further allegations of cruel and inhumane treatment by the medical staff have added another disturbing layer to an already gruesome tale. The family was not even notified of Marshall’s severe injuries until after his death.

Attempts by Marshall’s family to uncover the truth have been met with stonewalling and disdain. The individual allegedly responsible for Marshall’s fatal injuries has faced no charges. Physical evidence, including original arrest footage, appears to have been tampered with or destroyed, further obfuscating the truth.

Yet, despite the countless obstacles in their way, Marshall’s family remains undeterred. They are pleading for charges against the alleged assailant, hoping that a trial will bring out the truth behind Marshall’s death. Their story has been echoed and supported by the Botanical Action Network (BAN), which has rallied to their side in advocating for justice.

The BAN has shared a petition aiming to raise awareness and apply pressure on the Arkansas Attorney General to prosecute Marshall’s case. In addition, a GoFundMe page has been established to provide direct financial support to the family as they navigate this arduous journey toward justice.

We call on our readers to join this fight for justice. Share the petition, contribute to the GoFundMe if you can, and help spread the word about Marshall’s story. As we delve further into this issue, we must remember that the war on drugs is not just a series of policies or laws. It’s a war that has real victims, leaves real scars, and incites real battles for justice.
