New Report: US Senators Claim US Complicity in Israel’s Ethnic Cleansing in Palestine
Chris Van Hollen from Maryland and Jeff Merkley from Oregon, both members of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, presented their findings in a report released on Thursday, which followed their recent congressional delegation trip to the Middle East. The two Democratic senators have reached what they describe as an “inescapable conclusion” regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza, claiming that there is a deliberate strategy in place aimed at the annihilation and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
Both Senators argue that Israel’s strategy is effectively compelling the local population to flee their homes, and they contend that the United States bears some responsibility for these actions, using strong but justified words such as “complicit.” They also stress that the destruction caused by the conflict goes beyond the physical damage inflicted by bombs and bullets. while highlighting their discovery of a coordinated effort to obstruct humanitarian aid, characterising Israel’s tactic as “using food as a weapon of war.

Our inescapable conclusion: the Netanyahu government is engaged in a campaign of ethnic cleansing in Gaza.
Tune in as we discuss what we saw and where we go from here: https://t.co/0lojm3LCX3
“The Netanyahu Government is Implementing a Plan to Ethnically Cleanse Gaza of Palestinians. America is Complicit. The World Must Stop It.”
“We heard a firsthand account from a doctor who had treated many of the Palestinians who were injured by the gunfire around the GHF sites. They stated that when GHF announces the time food distribution sites open, “our staff start preparing body bags.”
“The Netanyahu Government Has Willfully Obstructed the Delivery of Sufficient Food and Other Necessities into Gaza”
The report concludes that Israeli families of hostages still held in Gaza view Prime Minister Netanyahu and his far-right government as major barriers to securing the hostages’ return and ending the war. They believe Netanyahu prioritises his political survival over the safety of hostages and the welfare of Israelis. Recent surveys indicate that most Israelis share similar views. The evidence collected during their journey suggests Netanyahu fears that ending the war will lead to scrutiny of his actions before October 7th. Additionally, if he negotiates a ceasefire with Hamas, key coalition allies like Smotrich and Ben-Gvir threaten to destabilise his government. While previously seen as marginal figures, they are now central to Netanyahu’s coalition, and their views on Gaza and the West Bank have gained traction amongst the Israeli public. The report highlights Israeli leaders’ remarks, asserting that their perspectives have contributed to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the failure to negotiate hostage returns, and the displacement of Palestinian civilians. The report emphasises how the Israeli government has used the tragedies of October 7th to advance their long-held goals of renewed Israeli control over Gaza and the West Bank, including annexation and settler violence against Palestinians.
