Proposed Bill Prohibits Electric Smart Meter Installation w/out Customer Consent; Provides More Options to Municipalities in re Small Cells

By B.N. Frank

Energy consumers worldwide have been forced (see 1, 2, 3) to accept privacy invasive and unsafe “smart” meters (electric, gas, and water) so that utility companies could remotely control and/or ration energy use (see 1, 2) as well as collect consumer usage data 24/7 to sell and/or share with 3rd parties (see 1, 2).  In the U.S., it was reported that over 124 million electric “smart” meters would be installed by the end of 2022.  Complaints about these devices have led to Americans filing lawsuits (see 1, 2, 3) as well as demanding “opt-out” programs and protective legislation.  Of course, opposition to small cell installation (5G and 4G) also continues to increase in the U.S. (see 1, 2, 3, 4).  Recently, Connecticut legislators introduced a bill to address both.
