Telecom Provides 5G to 91% of Households; “100,000 mobile antennas are currently transmitting nationwide” (Germany)

By B.N. Frank

Worldwide opposition to 5G has been ongoing for years.  This has slowed and/or stopped deployment in some countries but not Germany where it was first launched in 2019.

Deutsche Telekom expands 5G, LTE networks nationwide

By Juan Pedro Tomás

Deutsche Telekom’s 5G network currently reaches 91% of Germany’s households

German carrier Deutsche Telekom has expanded its mobile network at 1,055 locations nationwide over the last five weeks, the telco said in a release.

In addition to the approximately 350 5G locations that transmit at 3.6 GHz, a further 152 locations with 5G have been upgraded to 2.1 GHz, the telco said.

In addition, Deutsche Telekom has created additional LTE capacities at 354 locations, while 199 new LTE sites were built. The telco said that a total of 100,000 mobile antennas are currently transmitting nationwide on various frequencies.

The European operator said that its current LTE household coverage is 99% while 91% of households can already access to the telco’s 5G network.

Walter Goldenits, managing director of Technology at Telekom Deutschland, said: “More than 32,000 locations are currently transmitting in the Telekom network. In addition, we put more than 1,500 new locations into operation every year. In addition, there are LTE and 5G expansions at thousands of existing locations. As part of our massive expansion activities, 5G will become the new standard in Telekom’s mobile network.”

Goldenits previously said that Deutsche Telekom expects to launch its 5G Standalone (SA) network in the country, depending on the use cases for the technology as well as the availability of devices.

Deutsche Telekom currently uses two frequencies for 5G. The 3.6 GHz frequency enables the fastest download speeds. This high-speed 5G is mainly used in densely populated regions. In addition, Telekom uses the longer-wave 2.1 GHz frequency.

During the course of this year, Deutsche Telekom also wants to use its 700 MHz frequencies for the provision of 5G services.

The telco kicked off the rollout of its 5G network in a limited number of cities across Germany at the beginning of July 2019.

Deutsche Telekom said that a total of over 63,000 antennas are already transmitting 5G across the country. The European telco noted that it currently has more than 4,000 5G antennas in operation in the 3.6 GHz band, with more than 180 cities and municipalities already benefiting from it. Some of the cities where the telco offers 5G via 3.6 GHz spectrum are Aachen, Augsburg, Berlin, Bonn, Braunschweig, Bremen, Darmstadt, Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, Frankfurt/Main, Hamburg, Hanover, Jena, Kiel, Cologne, Leipzig, Ludwigsburg, Munich, Nuremberg, Saarbrücken, Schwerin, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden and Wolfsburg.

Over 53% of the German territory is covered by at least one provider supplying 5G as of the end of October 2021, according to the latest available data from the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur).

Since 2017 doctors and scientists have asked for 5G moratoriums on Earth and in space (see 1, 2) and the majority of scientists oppose deployment. Since 2018 there have been reports of people and animals experiencing symptoms and illnesses after it was activated (see 1, 2, 3, 4).  In 2019 telecom executives testified that they had NO scientific evidence that 5G is safe.

Some researchers claim 5G deployment may be contributing to COVID-19 infections.  Of course, others say it’s not.  Nevertheless, research has determined that there are health risks associated with 5G exposure as well as exposure to 4G and other sources of wireless Wi-Fi radiation (see 1, 2) and Electromagnetic Fields (aka “Electrosmog”).  Got pets?  Exposure can affect them too.
