The Abstract episode 7: The Real Slick Willie, Developers’ Advocate

By Peter A. Kirby

This week on The Abstract we will continue our series on the historical evolution of San Francisco’s current political establishment. The focus of our continuing investigations is the former mayor of San Francisco and former California assemblyman representing San Francisco, Willie Brown. Former president Bill Clinton called him ‘the real Slick Willie’ and slick he is. While providing legal representation to big money California land developers, Willie simultaneously oversaw the passage of their bills through the CA assembly and never got in trouble for it. That’s good work if one is slick enough to pull it off. There’s even more to this story and none of it is good for the soul of San Francisco. Please join us as we understand our present by revisiting our past.
