WaPo: Safety Criticism by Experts and Drivers of Tesla Self-Driving: “…it picked up the piles of poop as [traffic] cones…”

Experts continue to warn that Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) are NOT safe (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). There have been multiple reports about Teslas crashing and/or catching fire. Tesla owners have recently reported additional life-threatening situations as well.

More from the Washington Post:

Tesla is putting ‘self-driving’ in the hands of drivers amid criticism the tech is not ready
Even iPhones have lidar now, but not the cars Tesla hopes to one day make autonomous.

SAN FRANCISCO — In a year when Tesla might have been forgiven for extending its timeline on a key initiative, Elon Musk is forging ahead with a vision for what he calls “Full Self-Driving.”

This week, a group of drivers was selected to receive a software update that downloaded automatically into their cars, enabling the vehicles to better steer and accelerate without human hands and feet. According to Tesla, hundreds of thousands of its cars will be able to drive themselves as soon as this year, probably making them the first large fleet of vehicles billed as autonomous owned by ordinary consumers.

Tesla is forging ahead despite skepticism among some safety advocates about whether Tesla’s technology is ready — and whether the rest of the world is ready for cars that drive themselves. An industry coalition consisting of General Motors’ Cruise, Ford, Uber and Waymo, among others, this week criticized the move by Tesla, saying its vehicles are not truly autonomous because they still require an active driver.

Self-driving is lightly regulated in the United States, and Tesla does not need permission to launch the new feature.

What self-driving cars can’t recognize may be a matter of life and death

A point of contention among Tesla’s critics is that the company is moving ahead without a key piece of hardware.

Even though the proverbial poop is hitting the fan – AV proponents will not be deterred. In fact, Verizon recently alerted their subscribers that widespread 5G deployment is less about internet speed and more about putting countless AVs on public roads and building privacy invasive, easily hackable, and radiation-saturated “Smart Cities.”

In 2019, telecom executives gave congressional testimony that they had NO independent scientific evidence that 5G is safe. American 5G opposition includes federal agencies and other credible experts who warn it threatens jobs, national security, public safety, and weather forecasting accuracy (see 1, 2, 3, 4).

The majority of scientists worldwide oppose 5G deployment. Doctors and scientists have asked for moratoriums on Earth and in space (see 1, 2). Cities AND entire countries have taken action to ban, delay, halt, and limit 5G installation AS WELL AS issue moratoriums on deployment.

Since 2018 there have been reports of people and animals experiencing symptoms and illnesses after 5G was installed (see 1, 2, 3, 4). Of course, exposure risks ARE NOT exclusive to 5G. Last year, the World Health Organization warned that high levels of Electromagnetic Fields (aka “Electrosmog”) could cause health issues in a significant percentage of the population.

But driverless cars yo! For you AND your irreplaceable loved ones!
