American Organizations Oppose Nationalized 5G Program Being “Owned” by DoD Because It Violates Free Market Principles

The “Race for 5G” has become so controversial that it’s been the subject of Dilbert comic strips. High-speed internet CAN be achieved throughout the U.S. without 5G AND Americans have actually already paid for it.

American opposition to 5G continues to increase for a variety of valid reasons as well. In fact, deployment has been banned, delayed, and stopped worldwide due to serious health and safety risks. Nevertheless, in August, Trump reintroduced his proposal to have a national 5G plan and the Department of Defense (DoD) seems to want to be in charge perhaps with assistance from Google. Now some Americans are crying foul to THAT as well.

DOD’s Interest in ‘Owning’ 5G Networks Riles Conservative Groups

A recent survey noted a lack of support from stakeholders was an impediment for federal agencies implementing 5G capabilities, but that’s mostly on the civilian side of things.

A set of individuals and organizations advocating free-market principles is drawing attention to what they say are conflicting moves from within the administration on how best to establish fifth-generation networks in the U.S., noting nationalization of the technology isn’t it.

“A government-run 5G backbone, wholesale network, or whatever name it goes by, is nationalization of private business,” reads an Oct. 7 letter to Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., signed by leaders of Americans for Tax Reform, the Competitive Enterprise Institute and 41 others. “Spectrum sharing is something that must be considered as the nation moves forward with private networks, but it is not a reason for a government takeover.”

There’s limited space on the airwaves needed to support 5G, and the government and private sector have collaborated in the past on spectrum sharing initiatives, but language in a Sep. 18 request for information from the Defense Department raised the eyebrows of lawmakers across the political spectrum, reigniting outrage over an idea—originally floated at the start of 2018—that the government should build and control 5G networks.

In 2019, telecom executives gave U.S. congressional testimony that they had NO independent scientific evidence about the safety of 5G. Regardless, American opposition includes more than biological (see 1, 2, 3) and environmental risks (see 1, 2). Federal agencies warn that it could threaten national security, public safety, and weather forecasting accuracy. Critics warn it will create massive job loss and eliminate Americans’ right to privacy. Other downsides: 5G can cause base stations to overheat AND requires 2-3X more energy to operate than 4G.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is supposed to protect Americans by regulating the telecom industry. They have a long history of NOT doing so. The agency has become more dangerous during the Trump administration (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12). They refuse to update 24-year-old federal RF radiation exposure guidelines despite research proving harm. Lawsuits have been filed against them for NOT protecting Americans from unsafe levels of radiation as well as 5G deployment on land (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and in space.

In addition to filing lawsuits, municipal governments have passed resolutions to ban deployment until studies prove it’s safe (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and ordinances to limit and/or control installation. State representatives in Hawaii and Illinois have introduced 5G bills to protect constituents. Congress members have also confronted the agency about safety (see 1. 2)

Since 2018, people and animals have experienced symptoms and illnesses after 5G was installed (see 1, 2, 3, 4). Of course exposure to other sources of wireless radiation can cause symptoms and illnesses as well. Last year, the World Health Organization warned that high levels of Electromagnetic Fields (aka “Electrosmog”) – including wireless radiation – could lead to health issues in 30% of the population.

Any way you look at it, 5G doesn’t seem to be what’s best for Americans or anybody else.
