Health Mag Recommends Fitbits, Apple Watches, and Phones to Improve Sleep Despite Reported Problems

By B.N. Frank

There have been news reports about Fitbits shocking wearers as well as causing rashes and other scary heath issues. In fact, there was a class action lawsuit about the rashes. Many smartphones have been cited as exceeding RF safety levels. There have been lawsuits, recalls, and warnings about them too (see 1, 2, 3). Nevertheless – Good Health Lifestyles Magazine has recommended the use of these devices to their readers for enjoying a better night’s sleep. See page 36 of their spring issue:

The CDC Gets Serious…About Sleep

Sleep deprivation is now considered a public health epidemic, as declared by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention. Lack of quality sleep is linked to a number of chronic health conditions, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, depression, and obesity. It also contributes to cognitive and mental health decline, sometimes leading to mistakes at work or school, motor vehicle accidents, and more. So how can you make sure you’re catching the best zzz’s possible? Fitbits, Apple Watches, and most phones now have the ability to detect the quantity and quality of your sleep. If yours could use some improvement, try a mediation app to calm anxiety and promote deep sleep, stop using electronics at least an hour before bedtime, and seek out botanicals known to increase energy during the day (like red ginseng) and relaxation in the evening (like lemon balm and lavender).

Say what? The magazine also recommends that readers stop using electronics at least an hour before bedtime when Fitbits, Apple Watches, and smarphones are electronic devices???!!!

Fitbits are also getting a bad rap from Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) because of their increased efforts to collect MORE data on wearers (see 1, 2). Some might find that alone to be insomnia-worthy.
