Melissa and Aaron Dykes were in California getting B-roll for an upcoming film project and they stopped in at Facebook headquarters. They were shocked to see a continuous stream of people lining up to take selfies in front of the Facebook sign — disturbing enough — but they also saw a massive security presence backed up by poles filled with surveillance equipment.
Is this what the modern-day spiritual pilgrimage looks like — a big thumbs-up to the emptiness of social media posing … while being spied upon?

It is so easy to be snide. People are posing with a sense of irony: it’s a joke. The snide have a fatal flaw: they lack irony.
full disclosure: recently, FB disabled my page which had been a kind of diary for years; I lost years of articles I archived there, thousands of photos, 95% of my FB friends. The irony is that while they never told me why they had disabled me (it came after I posted a cartoon criticizing the hypocrisy of fearing Muslims and Mexicans when right-wing extremists were doing all the terrorism), I was able, using my phone number to immediately establish a new FB page.
They could have censored the cartoon, which was offensive only to fascists, but they erased years and years of my recorded life.
Fuck Facebook…but with irony.
