Cell Phone Right to Know Ordinance Sustained in Berkley, CA

Resurrecting 2012 Federal “Cell Phone Right to Know” Act is Long Overdue.

Hooray for Berkeley, CA!  Their “Cell Phone Right to Know” Act is still being defended by The Berkeley City Council.  Many citizens and organizations have fought for this including the California Brain Tumor Association which was founded in 2008.  Their website includes a wealth of information as well as links to old news reports and videos that most people may not know exist:

Cell phone exposure isn’t only about increased risk of cancer and brain tumorsActivist Post regularly reports about other research.  We’ve also reported about the 2012 federal “Cell Phone Right to Know Act” which was sponsored by Dennis Kucinich and lauded by many including the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Washington D.C. (December 13, 2012) — The American Academy of Pediatricians (AAP) which represents “60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults” has endorsed H.R. 6358, the Cell Phone Right to Know Act.

“Health effects from cell phone radiation are a potential concern for everyone that uses a cell phone, but children are among the most vulnerable as the doctors note in the letter. I am honored that such esteemed professionals support the Cell Phone Right to Know Act,” said Kucinich. “Our coalition is growing and broadening.”

The Cell Phone Right to Know Act, H.R. 6358, provides for warning labels on cell phones. It would also create a new national research program to study cell phones and health and require the Environmental Protection Agency to update the outdated Specific Absorption Rate.

Activist Post has also reported on additional news coverage about research confirming that cell phone exposure can be harmful – especially to children.  Outside of the U.S., especially in France, many (including government agencies) have been proactive in warning citizens about the potential for harm from exposure for the last decade.

Over the years, much research proving harm has been published and obviously reported by various organizations and sources.  All the while, The Telecom Industry has never said cell phones are safe.

Unfortunately, in the U.S., cell phones are still marketed and portrayed as “must-have” magically operating products for every man, woman and child despite all of this.   Most elected officials still don’t seem to be interested in addressing or correcting this any time soon.

Cell phones and other digital and wireless devices and infrastructure are regulated by The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which is not a health organization.  Journalist Norm Alster may have said it best when he labelled them as a “Captured Agency.”
