Trump Administration Imprisoning 1,500 Immigrant Children In Old Walmart Along Border

By Aaron Kesel

The Trump administration is holding 1,469 teen and pre-teen boys separated from their parents in captivity along the Mexican border at an old abandoned Walmart called Casa Padre, Salt Lake Tribune reported.

The old Walmart has now been renovated with classrooms, recreation centers, and medical examination rooms to hold the boys now under federal custody. The boys are allowed two hours outside each day, including one hour of physical exercise and one hour of free time in between long days of learning. There are two separate shifts of education due to the number of boys at the facility.

A total of 1,469 boys, ages 10 to 17, are housed inside the 250,000-square-foot former Walmart superstore. None of the 313 bedrooms have doors or ceilings, so children are forced to lie in their beds. At least the government is feeding them according to reports; an image shows a hundred children neatly lined up for their supper of barbecued chicken or sandwiches single file past murals of former presidents, including one of the current president with a quote in Spanish alongside the English version: “Sometimes by losing a battle you find a new way to win the war.” It’s a quote that President Trump once tweeted in 2014, a line from his 1987 book The Art of the Deal, shortly before going on to win the U.S. election 2 years later.

While most of the boys are teenagers who entered the United States alone on their own, dozens of others — some even younger were forcibly separated from their parents at the border by a new Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy for immigration.

A Washington Post reporter recently interviewed a teenager who spent about three months in Casa Padre, from February until early May of this year.

Jairom, 17, had fled his abusive home in Honduras and traveled through Mexico for a month, mostly by train, before he was detained crossing into Rio Grande.

Casa Padre wasn’t perfect, Jairom told the Post. The two dirt soccer fields behind the big-box store weren’t enough space for all the boys who wanted to play. And he said the food was terrible.

“They gave us a bit of bread, a nasty egg and some beans and an apple and some milk,” he said, describing breakfast. “Everyone complained about the food.”

Perhaps one of the worst people to quote, but she has it right this one time, former First Lady Laura Bush compared the immigrant children’s camp to internment camps used in WW2.

“These images are eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history,” Laura Bush wrote in an Op-Ed for The Washington Post.

Only last month the Trump administration enacted a policy to refer every person caught crossing the border illegally for federal prosecution, a decision that has caused for the separation of children from their families.

“So, if you cross the border unlawfully, even a first offense, we’re going to prosecute you,” U.S. AG Jeff Sessions told a gathering of the Association of State Criminal Investigative Agencies in May. “If you’re smuggling a child, we’re going to prosecute you, and that child will be separated from you, probably, as required by law. If you don’t want your child to be separated, then don’t bring them across the border illegally.”

However, the nonprofit’s chief executive, Juan Sanchez of the company holding the federal contract Texas-based Southwest Key insists they aren’t running a prison and their ultimate goal is to reunite these young kids with their families, many of whom are probably now locked up under Sessions’ new policies.

“We’re trying to do the best that we can taking care of these children. Our goal ultimately is to reunite kids with their families,” he said. “We’re not a detention center. … What we operate are shelters that take care of kids. It’s a big, big difference.”

In the two weeks after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the separation policy, on May 7, 638 adults were prosecuted, and they had been accompanied by 658 children, federal officials have said.

One has to wonder if the Trump administration is imprisoning these 1,469 children and if there are other centers like these being operated around the U.S. holding children in detention internment camps. AG Sessions has ordered federal prosecutors to pursue criminal charges against all referrals for illegally crossing the border.

The Trump administration has separated nearly 2,000 children from their families since it initiated its harsh new immigration policies according to the Associated Press which analyzed records from the Department of Homeland Security and found that 1,995 children were taken away between April 19th through May 31st of this year.

How many more of these cases exist where children are being snatched from their parents who illegally cross the border? Is this the new type of behavior Americans wants to condone, or just the establishment making us all look bad?

  1. Send these brats and their parents back to where they came from. Take them to the border and they are on their own. If they try to cross again, point a gun and say, shoot to kill, unless you have the proper papers. Problem solved. BTW: enforce the current laws on the books and these pieces of trash will leave very fast

    • Absolutely agree, bullets are the most effective way to control illegal border crossings.

    • Thank goodness the Native Americans didn’t treat our ancestors that way. Just saying, keep a little perspective guys. Shooting children is…un-American.

      • Foreign alien parents who victimize their children by requiring them to violate immigration law are child abusers and should be so categorized upon return to their homeland.

        • Seeking Asylum is not against the law. If denied and they continue to stay THEN they would be breaking the law. Use some critical thinking.

          • – you try it first and tell me if it works for you – – .

          • dale ruff | June 20, 2018 at 7:58 am |

He already did by stating the fact that seeking asylum even IF you enter legally is legal under US laws Now it’s your turn to turn on your brain and use it.

          • You have excellent skills in the area of spinning information to conform to your standards for deceptive propaganda.
(BTW, “G´ma G” suggests she, not he.)

          • My critical thinking skills enable me to deconstruct propaganda. I sense in your troll an unwillingness to engage in debate and also note the use of fake name.

          • An alias is an alias, similar to “dale ruff”.

You have excellent skills in the area of spinning information to conform to your standards for deceptive propaganda.

          • But they are NOT seeking asylum. There is a LEGAL and LAWFUL way to do so, and that is NOT (most of the time) being done. They are INVADING. Not all invasions are armed.

Do not lie, do not pretend, do not use “politically correctness” (lies/deceit), children being USED or not, this IS an INVASION. Protect the children as we can but they must also go back to their parents (remember, just because they brought children do not mean they did not steal those kids so they could USE them) if their parents can be found.

        • Parent who take their children out of violent circumstances to seek protection are criminals in your view. Make them go back and be persecuted. How humane!

          • No, you’re incorrect in your assumption. IF they want refuge here, there is a legal way to go about it. IF they want to come here to live, there is also a LEGAL way to accomplish that.

What I see is INVADERS who are USING children as a shield, and THOSE actions are not decent or parenting. Most Americans are against INVASIONS, btw, there is NO SUCH THING as “illegal immigration”/ It is either IMMIGRATION or it is INVASION (illegally coming here).

We have LEGAL and LAWFUL ways to enter our nation. NOT willing to come here LEGALLY, then do not bemoan what happens when we are INVADED.

      • Then Let them come STAY at your House, you old Dusty Dried Up Hoor !

        • One of my best friends IS Native American and has STAYED at my house for many extended periods of time…thank you very much.

          • Tuco Carrera | June 19, 2018 at 6:05 pm |

Well I am a NATIVE HAWAIIAN, THANK YOU

          • The original indigenous of what are now the American continents are not native Americans. They are indigenous natives of the American continents, and deserve to be addressed by their tribal nation.
Calling them “Native American” continues to insult the folk.

          • My bad. Thank you. My friends are Squaxin and Chippewa-Cree.

        • Do you propose violating the law of the land?
          That is criminal mindset

  2. Well, at least the greeter got to keep his job…

  3. I’m confused…why are children being separated from their parents? When an entire family is caught attempting to illegally breach our borders, why wouldn’t the entire family be turned away? Why on flat Earth would we store their children in a Walmart? Am I missing something?

    • okay, so i read the article a little closer and answered my own question but still confused as to why we’d spend the money to prosecute them when it would be tremendously more cost effective to simply keep them out.

      • Even those who enter illegally, most often because they are refused at the border facility, are entitled, under US law to apply for asylum Those urging they be shot should be locked up as inciting violence, including the murder of children. Not since the Nazis have such brutal ideas found a base of support, now among the fascist Trump supporters America hangs its head in shame as the entire world looks on with horror. Is this how we Make America Great Again, by terrorizing children and threatening to murder them?

      • No effective way to do it which is why we need the wall. Or maybe Trump could build a five-star hotel to keep them in the manner the protesters seem to think they are entitled/accustomed to….

        • Those granted asylum (far less than half) get $420 a month for 2 people for 8 months, and are prohibited from working, which they would prefer to starving on paltry benefits.

Most Americans oppose the Wall. Peace and harmony is built thru bridges, not walls.
Your claims are ugly and absurd: those fleeing violence want protection, and US law requires that it be provided. Ripping apart families is just another instance of state terrorism.

Don’t know where you live or where you get your info from, but you are naive.

          • It does not matter where I live and I am not naive. I get my information from credible sources, not right wing propaganda organs.

Here are the facts backed up tho I suspect you will dismiss them because they contradict the lies you have been told.
            1. humanrights.org reports: “Are asylum-seekers eligible for benefits such as SNAP/Food Stamps & Medicaid?
In general, asylum seekers are not eligible for federally funded benefits until they receive asylum.” This can take up to a year or more.

2.in order to be granted a work permit, you have to either
win your asylum case (which may take several years), or
be left waiting 180 days or more with no initial decision on your application from the asylum office or from the immigration court. After 150 days, you can apply for a work permit and you are eligible to receive it after you have been waiting 180 days.

3.If you are granted legal status you can get $420 a month for 2 people for only 8 months https://www.dshs.wa.gov/esa/community-services-offices/refugee-cash-assistance

            4. “To be eligible for RCA you must:
Provide documents issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) verifying your immigration status and date of arrival into the U.S.
Provide the name of the voluntary agency (VOLAG) which resettled you
            Meet immigration status requirements
            Meet work and training requirements
            Meet income and resource requirements.”

5.” Refugees applying for RCA must be enrolled in Employment Services.”

            6. So asylum seekers can get meager benefits for 240 days but are not allowed to work for the first 180 days. That means that they are helped while being prohibited from working. If you were fleeing violence with your children would you rather work (a couple could make 4K a month with 2 minimum wages jobs) or get $420 a month cash plus $240 in SNAP benefits? Immigrants are not afraid of hard work and most come to work. Asylum seekers come for protection and want to work to support their families. Those who advocate denying them their rights are betraying the laws of the land, and this includes federal officials (including the President) who have a policy of turning away asylum seekers despite their legal rights.

      • It’s Trump’s tactic to terrorize children and break families to force Congress to vote for his Wall.

    • Yes. When an illegal enters the USA, they aren’t just tossed back over the border, they incur a legal process. Just as with American citizens, when a parent is arrested for illegal activity, their children are separated from them since we don’t send children to adult prisons.

What the libtards are pretending is that we should just allow them all in and NOT incarcerate the adult.

      • So it seems like the only reasonable solution is a wall ( or moat or minefield) to ensure they don’t get in.

        • Yes.

I love what the Hungarians did to shut down their commie judges. They built their border fence INSIDE their border as opposed to ON the border.

Now, when a commie judge screams, ‘You can’t deport them!”, the govt says, “We didn’t. There still inside Hungary”.

          Brilliant!

        • You are for betraying US law which permits asylum seekers the right to request protection, however they entered. You want to blow families and children to prevent them from rights granted under US law? You are inciting criminal activity and should be locked up.

    • Not all are being separated. Most are unaccompanied.

      • Yes, and in Sweden these “children” rape Swedish women! And the ones who really are children age and are placed in foster families, getting 3 meals a day, a bed, school to attend, find it too “stressful” so they run away and are found on the streets of Spain, surviving by stealing.

      • The discussion is about the new policy of snatching children from their parents. Unaccompanied children are placed with sponsors.

        • Not a new policy. Started with the Clintons.

          • dale ruff | June 20, 2018 at 9:44 am |

It IS absolutely a new policy Neither under the Cliintons, Obama, or Trump until recently was it policy to arrest families with children. This was rarely done in cases of safety of the children only.
“In effect, the Trump administration created the family separation policy with another policy that Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced in May. Sessions’ “zero tolerance” policy requires the detention and prosecution of all people detained by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers after crossing the border without permission.

A first-time border crossing is a misdemeanor, punishable by no more than six months in jail, a rare sentence.

What this hardline policy on prosecution means in practice — in lieu of an offer to just be deported — is that children will be separated from parents, who then can be jailed and face court.” publicintegrity.org

The old law permitted discretion; the two month old new policy of zero tolerance means all who enter illegal are incarcerate, ripping apart families in a way that was never done before.

“President Donald Trump continues to falsely blame Democrats for an administration policy that has led to more than 2,000 children being separated from their parents at the U.S. border.

Speaking at a White House event on space Monday morning, Trump again said that the policy is “the Democrats’ fault” because they will not work with Republicans to revise immigration laws.

The family separations began earlier this year after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a new “zero tolerance” policy of referring all border crossings for federal criminal prosecution, which leads to children being separated as their parents are sent to jail.” time.com

Trump is lying and even his own parties knows it. You are complicit in these crimes against humanity by repeating Trump’ lies to justify terrorizing children to force Democrats to vote 25 billion in taxpayer money (“Mexico will pay for the wall.” DT) for a wall that 2/3 of the pubic does not want.

    • US laws says that those who approach the border (or since many are turned away) OR enter illegally have the right to ask for asylum They cannot be denied their rights under US law and their right is to have their request considered.

    • The law states that those fleeing persecution can apply for asylum either at the border or after the misdemeanor of illegal entry (often caused by being turned away at the border, itself a violation of US law). It is illegal to turn away those seeking asylum no matter how they got here. That IS the law. Trup is betraying his oath of office to faithfully execute the laws. He should be locked up as a criminal for terrorizing children because he refuses to enforce the law that allows those seeking protection the right to due process no matter how they got here.

  4. It’s called a deterrent. The real question is, why were so many Wal-Marts closed permanently for ‘plumbing issues ‘ ?

    • Yes, but they originally intended them for us.

    • Terrorizing children as a deterrent is child abuse and crime against humanity. How about shooting the children as a deterrent And it is illegal to deter those seeking asylum, to which they have a right under international and US law. Those being turned away at the border stations (an illegal act itself) then enter illegally where, legally, they can request protection. It is the policy that is criminal; entering illegally is a misdemeanor; terrorizing children is a horrific crime Those defending this act of terrorism should be locked up as accessory to the crime.

  5. Of course a small percentage of the children were told by their parents to complain about everything in order to support the greater subterfuge created by their parents. President Trump and team have removed numerous illegal, Obama directives that crippled the USConstitution and Congress, and continue to progress. However, the subterfuge program created by the foreign alien, alias Barack H. Obama, has been partially removed in spite of his and DNC continued subterfuge.

The children in containment centers, converted Wal-Mart buildings, are receiving treatment that is better than the lower two socioeconomic strata of American children. Of course, the foreign alien children will want to remain in the US, and continue to receive the bennies that the government of Mexico is unable to provide. Upon their return to their parents and homeland, they will better understand why Americans do not want them and their parents as illegal aliens in the US.

  6. As required by law signed by Bush and followed by Hussein, Trump Administration Imprisoning 1,500 Immigrant Children In Old Walmart Along Border, since their ‘parents’ are illegals.

    There, I fixed it.

    • That’s not the law; ripping up families is a new policy just a few months old.

      • There is no new policy; only the implementation of immigration law that the foreign alien, alias BHObama refused to implement, deliberately violating the USConstitution. With which violation you continue to assist.

You have excellent skills in the area of spinning information to conform to your standards for deceptive propaganda.

  7. WRONG they are NOT Immigrants, They are ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINALS ! STOP the LIES CUT the Nonsense, Send the JULIOS Back across the BORDER, n BUILD the WALL !

  8. Aaron Kesel, author of this article, doesn’t know the same law was in effect during previous presidents. How come nobody wrote about this during the Obama presidency? This shows you what a witch hunt there is on Trump! All these worthless liberals need to go!

    • Does this include the majority who disapprove of Trump? Does it include the independents and Republicans tho want to see him gone? Witch hunt? 11 Trump advisers either lied about contacts with Russian officials or “forgot.” When people lie, they do so to cover up the truth: the truth is that this investigation is not a witch hunt but an effort to find out what truth those lies were covering up.

Those who defend the lies are complicit in evil.

      • The majority of persons who supported the deep-state stooge, Hillary Clinton, constitutes only the majority of that group of persons, who conceal their deceit by registering as independents or republicans. You do not represent either independents or republicans, rather reflect your support for “The Secret Team” element of the deep-state.

DOJ representatives have published that contacts with Russian officlals violates no law. Stating under oath that one had no contact when one did have contact is a legal technicality that was seized on by comrade Mueller to classify as a “lie” and thus tarnish the reputation of the person providing testimony. However, the nature of the contact was not a violation of law.

  9. My life sucks in America. Can I go to Mexico as a refugee and collect welfare?

    • Undocumented immigrants cannot, as the law states clearly, obtain welfare benefits.
Those granted asylum status can get $420 a month for 2 people for 8 months, while being prohibited from working. If your life sucks, it is because you are full of lies and toxic hatred.

Would you rather work and make 2K (2 could make 4K at minimum wages) or live on
$420 a month for 8 months, then be thrown on your own?
