In 2011, The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Acknowledged Cell Phone Radiation Affects Brain But Wasn’t Sure It Mattered Even Though Earlier Research Said It Did.

The ridiculous title of February 22, 2011 WebMd article is “Cell Phones Affect Brain, but Does It Matter?”

Whether it’s something to be concerned about or not remains to be seen.

“We don’t know that this is harmful,” researcher Nora Volkow, MD, director of the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Drug Abuse, tells WebMD.

and

So far, Volkow says, her new research shows that “the human brain is sensitive to the electromagnetic radiation that is delivered by cell phones.”

It’s worth noting that the 2011 results were based on 50 minutes of cell phone use.

In her study, she found those who used a cell phone for 50 minutes had about a 7% rise in glucose metabolism in the brain region closest to the antenna, as documented on PET (positron emission tomography) scans.

I’m no scientist but I can’t fathom why this doesn’t matter.

Regardless, her conclusion was still:

Beyond that, more research is needed, she says.

This also doesn’t seem right according to a 2010, GQ magazine article that included testimony from former industry and military scientists and decades’ old research that proved cell phone radiation exposure affected brains and everything else.  Why doesn’t this matter to the NIH?

Life went on but a few months later, The World Health Organization classified cell phone radiation as a “Possible Carcinogen” in the same category as chloroform, engine exhaust, and lead.  Yuck.

Dr. Keith Black, Chairman of Neurology of Cedar Sinai Los Angeles discussed why this matters to our brains:

  1. “What (cell phone and wireless) microwave radiation does … is similar to what happens to food in microwaves, essentially cooking the brain.
  2. “Children’s skulls and scalps are thinner. So the radiation can penetrate deeper…(so the) impact of radiation can be much larger.”

Holy crap.  “Cooking the brain” seems like it should matter.  It did at least to comedian, Stephen Colbert.

Regardless, life went on and cell phones and other wireless devices continued to be heavily marketed to everyone including children, communities, medical facilities and professionals, and public schools despite the fact that

  1. Silicon Valley parents (including Steve Jobs) were already limiting their kids’ exposure to new technology and sending them to private “low tech schools”
  2. “… no “safe” level (of cell phone and wireless radiation) has been scientifically determined for children or pregnant women.”
  3. Safety guidelines and testing standards are 20+ years old and often involve a model of a 220 pound male head.

2012 research determined all sources of cell phone and wireless (WiFi) radiation disrupt the blood-brain barrier which can cause it to leak.  This could lead to lowered impulse control among other unfortunate side effects.  That should matter, right?

Research also confirmed that exposure cell phone and wireless WiFi radiation along with other Electromagnetic Fields has a cumulative toxic effect when combined with other toxins.  OMG.

But life went on even though more research revealed results that were scary as hell.

Eventually in 2017, the National Institutes of Health published research that proved mobile (cell) phone use for 5 minutes can cause significant memory impairment in humans.

Wow – that’s quite a change considering that in 2011, NIH said that 50 minutes of cell phone use may not matter at all.

Also in 2017, many scientists also insisted there is enough research that shows that all sources of wireless (WiFi) radiation should be classified as a Group A Carcinogen though there are still some scientists who get paid to defend wireless emitting products.

Regardless, life went on and cell phones and other wireless devices and infrastructure still continued to be heavily marketed to be used and exposed to for more than 5 minutes at a time everywhere 24/7.

In February 2018, CBSNews.com posted “Cell Phones & Cancer: 8 Dumb Things to Boost Your Possible Cancer Risk.”

#6: Having a cellular gabfest

(By the way, cordless landline phones also emit harmful radiation, too.)

Other sources of wireless emitting radiation include cell towers, computers, Fitbits and other activity trackers, iPads, utility “Smart” meters, Wi-Fi routers.

Also in February 2018, Dr. Oz aired a segment called “The Rise of 5G Cell Towers” about state and federal elected officials who created and passed legislation which allows telecom companies to install small cell towers and wireless infrastructure pretty much wherever they want – including in front of homes.   All of this 5G is so we can “binge watch, surf, and post online” at super high speeds without worrying about our screens freezing up or being disconnected.

Research has also determined that exposure to new 5G technology and cell tower infrastructure includes profuse sweating and other unpleasant side effects.

Binge-watching tends to involve more than 5 minutes of cell phone and/or wireless WiFi radiation exposure.  Even NIH scientists concluded in 2017 that WiFi isn’t harmless after all.

Binge-watching also sounds a lot like “Digital Addiction” which we’ve been told is, well, addiction which is bad.

We’ve also been told we need to limit kids’ “Screen Time” by many sources and for many reasons including addiction and radiation exposure.

The fact of the matter is that decades of research has determined that many seem to be affected by this at least to some degree including pets, wildlife and nature.

All of this WiFi isn’t magic.  Plus it’s contributing to Electrical Pollution (aka Electrosmog) and pollution is supposed to matter to climate change.  So what the hell happened to following The Precautionary Principle?

Even though concerns about this are being covered by U.S. news stations and discussed by many including sexy and not-so-sexy celebrities, none of this seems to matter to the people who could stop all of this.

La la la la life goes on.  Heaven help us all.
