#3 Dumb Thing to Boost Possible Cancer Risk is Encouraging Kids to Use Cell Phones

By B.N. Frank

Last month, posted “Cell Phones & Cancer:  8 Dumb Things to Boost Your Possible Cancer Risk.”

#3 on their list: “Encouraging kids to use cell phones.”

no “safe” level (of cell phone radiation) has been scientifically determined for children or pregnant women.  (Source)

Cell phones emit wireless (WiFi) radiation which was classified as a “Group 2B Possible Carcinogen” in 2011 by the World Health Organization.

Dr. Keith Black, Chairman of Neurology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles had this to say in regard to children and wireless (WiFi) radiation emitted by cell phones and other sources:

Children’s skulls and scalps are thinner. So the (wireless) radiation can penetrate deeper into the brains of children and young adults. Their cells are at a dividing faster rate, so the impact of (wireless) radiation can be much larger.

Dr. Black also said:

What (wireless) microwave radiation does in most simplistic terms is similar to what happens to food in microwaves, essentially cooking the brain.

So in addition to leading to a development of cancer and tumors, there could be a whole host of other effects like cognitive memory function, since the memory temporal lobes are where we hold our cell phones.

For parents whose kids aren’t currently exhibiting emotional, mental, or physical health issues that can’t be explained by genes, germs, or growing pains, Dr. Black also had this to say:

The biggest problem we have is that we know most environmental factors take several decades of exposure before we really see the consequences.

This being said – maybe we should think about kids and wireless (WiFi) radiation exposure like we think about kids and sugar consumption.

  • Some kids eat gobs of sugar and still stay active, focused, slim, and healthy.
  • Some kids eat gobs of sugar and become hyperactive, unfocused, overweight, and diabetic.
  • That’s why medical professionals have recommended that parents and other adults limit how much sugar children are allowed to consume.

Since 2009, America’s favorite doctor, Dr. Oz has also recommended that parents limit how much their children use cell phones because of wireless (WiFi) radiation.

Other personal devices and products that emit wireless (WiFi) radiation include cordless landline phones, computers, iPads, WiFi routers, and more.

Safety guidelines and standards for all wireless emitting technology as well as other personal electronic products were established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) over 20 years ago.

Since these personal devices and products were originally only created for adults to use,

  • no ‘safe’ level (of Wireless WiFi Radiation) has been scientifically determined for children or pregnant women. (Source)
  • “…the claim that a device ‘meets government standards’ or that radiation levels are ‘FCC compliant’ gives a false impression of safety.” (Source)

This could explain why Silicon Valley parents (including Steve Jobs) have been limiting their kids’ exposure to new technology for many years now –  even sending them to expensive private “low tech” schools.

Scientific research on wireless (WiFi) radiation exposure has been conducted for several decades now.  In 2010, GQ Magazine published an article that featured interviews with scientists who had conducted research for the U.S. government and the telecom industry.

Some scientists believe there is enough research that proves wireless (WiFi) radiation should be classified as a Group A Carcinogen.

Some scientists defend the safety of both wireless (WiFi) radiation emitting technology as well as tobacco products.

This is very similar to what we went through with tobacco, asbestos, Agent Orange, and the like.  Same story, different toxin.

“Digital Addiction” is another reason to not encourage children to use cell phones.

Again – Silicon Valley parents have been limiting their own children’s use of technology for many years now despite the fact that tech companies market these devices and products as necessary educational tools for everybody else’s kids.

Cell phones have also been known to malfunction, catch fire, and/or explode.  There have even been recalls.

In the United States, safety testing for products that emit wireless (WiFi) radiation is not required to be performed on humans, animals, or live tissue.  It is primarily performed on plastic mannequin heads and bodies.

According to many scientists, U.S. federal safety standards and guidelines (established over 20 years ago) are outdated and inaccurate in regard to electronic and wireless products.

This is why there are many organizations also asking schools to replace wireless (WiFi) radiation with wired Internet (see list of organizations below).

Wireless or digital utility “Smart” Meters also emit wireless (WiFi) radiation.  Tens of millions of these types of meters have been installed on homes and buildings throughout the United States, North America, and the rest of the world.

Unlike other wireless (WiFi) radiation-emitting devices, utility companies are not required to provide customers with guidelines when they install these types of meters on homes.  This may prove to be problematic, especially for those who spend extended periods of time in close proximity to a utility “Smart Meter” or multiple “Smart Meters.”

Many insist that these utility “Smart” Meters also exceed current federal safety standards which apparently don’t apply to children or pregnant women anyway.  They’ve also been known to malfunction, catch fire, and explode

In 2014, The American Cancer Society also stated that wireless or digital “Smart” Meters could increase possible cancer risk.

When we are exposed to Wireless (WiFi) Radiation and other sources of Electrical Pollution (Electrosmog), we absorb it. Decades of research has proven this can be harmful in ways other than boosting cancer risk.

According to a 2010 articleExperts say up to 3% of all people are clinically hypersensitive, as many as one-third of us (are sensitive) to a lesser degree”  to wireless (WiFi) radiation and other sources of Electrical Pollution (Electrosmog).

“ElectroHyperSensitivity” (EHS) is the same thing as “Microwave Sickness” which was discovered in the 1950s.

Despite the fact that “Microwave Sickness” is a documented illness, many are still not convinced that wireless (WiFi) radiation and other sources of electrical pollution (Electrosmog) could be causing harm to their health or their children’s health.

There are many symptoms and health conditions associated with exposure to wireless (WiFi) radiation and electrical pollution (Electrosmog).  Exposure can also worsen pre-existing health conditions.

There also more cell towers and antennas in the environment than ever before.  These also emit Wireless (WiFi) Radiation.  There are currently plans for even more to be installed in our communities.  This is of concern to many people and Dr. Oz featured a segment about this last week on his show.

Firefighters have also been concerned about cell towers and antennas being installed on station property for many years now.

We are constantly warned about protecting ourselves and our loved ones from sun exposure.  We are not constantly warned about protecting ourselves from Wireless (WiFi) Radiation exposure.

But let’s wrap it up with one final reason to not encourage kids to use cell phones.   Research has determined that they are 10 times dirtier than a toilet seat.

As if it wasn’t hard enough to keep kids clean.
