U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis Weighs Using “Kinetic Weapon” On North Korea

By Aaron Kesel

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis hinted at using a kinetic weapon on Tuesday while discussing tensions with North Korea when he made a Freudian slip.

Mattis was asked whether there was “any military option the US can take with North Korea that would not put Seoul at grave risk,” Mattis responded, “Yes, there are, but I will not go into details.”

Later during the press conference, another reporter questioned Mattis and caught him off-guard:

“Just to clarify, you said that there were possible military options that would not create a grave risk to Seoul,” a reporter asked. “Are we talking kinetic options as well?”

“Yes, I don’t want to go into that,” Mattis responded.

Previously, Mattis stated that a war with North Korea would “involve the massive shelling of an ally’s capital, (South Korea) which is one of the most densely packed cities on earth.”

U.S. President Donald Trump in a speech to the United Nations on Tuesday threatened to “totally destroy North Korea” if Pyongyang didn’t quit its nuclear testing and threats.

This also comes after the U.S. and South Korea wrapped up its annual military drill harassing of North Korea, reminding the dictatorship of its military presence at its southern border.

In 2015, the U.S. Air Force confirmed that military contractor Boeing has an electromagnetic pulse weapon, which is capable of targeting and destroying electrical systems without the collateral damage of killing people. It’s essentially an EMP that takes out the power grid of a given area.

The project is known as the “CHAMP,” or Counter-electronics High-powered Microwave Advanced Missile Project, and it already has been operational since 2015, according to Air Force Research Laboratory commander Major General Tom Masiello.

In January, Trump’s Air Force chief of staff revealed to USA TODAY that the U.S. President could use “space weapons against ISIS.”

“If we want to be more agile than the reality is we are going to have to push decision authority down to some lower levels in certain areas the big question that we’ve got to wrestle with … is the authorities to operate in cyber and space,” General David Goldfein, the Air Force chief of staff, told USA TODAY.

However, the U.S. also has other kinetic weapons in its arsenal that would allow Trump to “totally destroy North Korea” — one of weapons system is the “Rods from God.”

What is the Rods from God? The “Rods from God” is a part of the directed energy weapon family; it’s a kinetic energy weapon.

The rods are directed munitions, the higher you are (the greater your distance from the planet), the greater the kinetic energy you have.

In 2004, published in Popular Science, Eric Adams writes:

A pair of satellites orbiting several hundred miles above the Earth would serve as a weapons system. One functions as the targeting and communications platform while the other carries numerous tungsten rods–up to 20 feet in length and a foot in diameter–that it can drop on targets with less than 15 minutes’ notice. When instructed from the ground, the targeting satellite commands its partner to drop one of its darts. The guided rods enter the atmosphere, protected by a thermal coating, traveling at 36,000 feet per second–comparable to the speed of a meteor. The result: complete devastation of the target, even if it’s buried deep underground. The two-platform configuration permits the weapon to be “reloaded” by just launching a new set of rods, rather than replacing the entire system.

The concept of developing kinetic energy weapons has been around since the 1950s when the RAND Corporation proposed placing rods on tips of ICBMs, although the Pentagon won’t say how far along the research is, or even confirm that any efforts exist, citing those details as classified. The “U.S. Air Force Transformation Flight Plan,” published by the Air Force in November 2003, references “hypervelocity rod bundles” in its outline of future space-based weapons; and, in 2002, another report from RAND, “Space Weapons, Earth Wars,” talks about the effectiveness of such a weapon.

A space weapons agreement was proposed by Rep Dennis Kucinich called the “Space Preservation Treaty”  in 2005 which states that countries won’t seek to weaponize space. However, that bill never made it past the introduction stage. Another House of Representatives bill known as the H.R.2977 “Space Preservation Act” was proposed in 2001 to ban the use of “exotic weapons” listing the following:

(B) Such terms include exotic weapons systems such as —  (i) electronic, psychotronic, or information weapons; (ii) chemtrails; (iii) high altitude ultra low frequency weapons systems; (iv) plasma, electromagnetic, sonic, or ultrasonic weapons; (v) laser weapons systems; (vi) strategic, theater, tactical, or extraterrestrial weapons; and (vii) chemical, biological, environmental, climate, or tectonic weapons.

Obama violated this agreement under the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act before leaving office, and no one noticed that the legislation he signed is essentially the Star Wars Defense Initiative II that his predecessor, Ronald Reagan, signed calling for a space-based missile system.

  1. How would Americans react if North Korea were conducting military operations on OUR border? War is the death of empathy; empathy is the path to peace. Reject the war propaganda, which is the prelude to wars of aggression. Resist the media/govt lies about North Korean aggression while we rattle the most lethal sabers in history on their border. Wake up: our survival depends on it.

    • We would take them out, you cannot let someone as psycho as fat boy have nukes!

      • I resent your calling Donald Trump fat boy! He weighs about 250 lbs and if that’s fat, then so are a lot of professional football players. i agree he should not have nukes. It’s not his obesity per se but his psychopathic personality and bullying manner that pose a risk.

Who can blame the North Koreans for developing a deterrent to a man who has threatened to use nukes in the Middle East, Europe, and now Asia?

        • #moron and blocked

          • Trolls always resort to name calling. They have NO debate skills.

          • Libtard morons result to straw arguments and changing the subject and get blacked, join the list

          • “result” to straw arguments? What a interlectural giant we have in you.

          • Auto correct, BITE ME. I bet I can find typos in stuff you have posted too. No go fluck yourself

Your immature insults against someone else’s typos that contain typos.
            “No go fluck yourself” ???
I think you meant Now, but that made me laugh.

          • Like the Republicans don’t have any responsibility for where this country is right now – Must have forgotten about the Bush/Cheney Crime Team that allowed 911 to happen where they ordered a military stand down & violated all Standard Operating Procedures..

          • I found at New Leaf black garlic hummus….great! The truck ran great…got a little hot going up to Tehachapi, where I stopped, as before, to eat at the King of Siam restaurant….authentic Thai food at reasonable price (8 bucks for big plate).

My helper here currently is using my pickup cuz his car needs work….and I can’t reach him, have to register.

I am going to put in a baseboard collection device (holes drilled in concrete blocks) for about $80 and then connect to sump pump…so the whole cost will be about $150-200 plus Joe’s labor….shouldn’t take more than a few hours….and that should do it. Plus I will fill cracks and paint with elastomeric paint and regrade outside so water moves away from house. I need to do this because I need basement for storage of my huge collection of arts and crafts and furniture accumulated here in short time.

Weather now is great–cool mornings and 78-85 days with low humidity…very nice! My yard is green and lush!

            Hope all is well……Dale

After which they installed their Patriot Acts, NDAA, Etc., to go around the Constitution & Bill of Rights to start their 100 year War of Terror.

          • Where the Air Force stood down for the whole 2 – 3 hours attack. When after the first plane hit a building – ALL other planes off course would have been forced down or shot out of the air – SOP Standard Operating Procedure

And yet TRUMP will be the person to bring peace to the Koreas where Obama and everyone else has failed. Gee, it’s almost as if you have swallowed a false narrative and rather than spit it out after realizing you’ve been duped you keep on chewing.

          • 1. There has been peace since the end of the Korean War, with 54 deaths since 1953 armistice, less than 1 year.
            2. In the absence of real facts, it is easy to proclaim what the future holds. Such predictions have zero merit as argument.
            3. Obama tried to bring about a Peace Treaty, which has never been signed: “In 2016, it was revealed that North Korea approached the United States about conducting formal peace talks to formally end the war. While the White House agreed to secret peace talks, the plan was rejected due to North Korea’s refusal to discuss nuclear disarmament as part of the terms of the treaty. ”

Having lost nearly 1/3 of its population due to US bombing during the Korean War, North Korea has made it clear for years that it would give up its nuclear program, which it has brought to a plausible threat under Trump (as he provoked them to accelerate it) if the Korean Peninsula were made nuclear-free and it no longer need its nukes as a deterrent.

The following comment sums up the North Korea position: ““When a rogue regime has a nuclear weapon and an ICBM pointed at you, you do not take steps to lower your guard. No one would do that. We certainly won’t,” Ironically, it was not Kim who made this remark but US Ambassador Haley,, and it is exactly why North Korea will agree to give up its nukes only if the US

North Korea is aware what happened when Saddam and then Gaddafi gave up their WMDS—they were attacked and destroyed. North Korea will not make the same mistake.

“Essentially, it is the goal of US Strategic Command (STRATCOM) to constantly station nuclear-capable bombers in the Pacific in a visible effort to deter aggression in the region. But lately, the US has stepped up the presence, pulling out all three big bombers, ”

The only thing that has kept the US from attacking North Korea is the fear of their ability to retatliate, either by taking out South Korea or attacking US cities. Do you seriously think they will give up their deterrent and face what happened to Iraq and Libya when they got rid of their WMD’s?

North Korea has made it plain for many decades they want
            1. reunification with South Korea
            2. a Peace Treaty where the US stops treating them as a threat with provacative war exercises
            3. denuclearization of the entire region.

If Trump is willing to grant these demands, we have a continuation of peace with less brinksmanship but do you honestly think he will agree to those terms.

The only fair predictions we can make are based on historical continutity, and if you think NK will give up its nukes without the US signing a Peace Treaty and removing its nuclear threats to North Korea, you are not being realistic.

In all likelihood, the tallks wiill collapse and things will continue in a state of threats but actual relative peace, as has been the case for the last 60 years.

      • Speaking of psychopathic.

It is far better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt.

      • Do you know how many people have died because of pax americana ? atomic bombs on Japan, incendiary bombs on Tokyo, vietnam agentt orange and napalm. Do you know what Truman did to north Korea in 1953/54 ? 4 million died carpet bombed, oh yes ! Regime changes and wars in south america, middle East and the lsit goes on and on… Do you know what your army started to do as early as 1860 ?

        • So? We were at war, or were invited to help that country fight an uprising, or in the South American cases we were helping against narco terror wars.

The USA is not perfect, but we would not indiscriminately nuke another country like fat boy would. The nukes used in Japan saved thousands of lives in the long run and stopped the Japanese who started the war with the USA by bombing Pearl Harbor.

But hey, don’t let REAL history get in your way. Keep on believing the lies schools teach these days.

    • This is one area we are 100% in agreement on.
Thank goodness it is one of the most important.

      Good job Dale

  2. Does anyone ever ask why it is that only smaller, and only otherwise nearly defenseless, countries are subjected to our rules about having, or developing, any means to resist being forced to do as WE tell them? Does anyone ever ask why it is that no nation is allowed, by US, to be without having a central bank? How is it that Iran, a country that has not been involved as an aggressor in a war since 1858, is called evil? Is it because they threw out the puppet we installed to govern them for our benefit (the Shah who came here after they took him down)? Does anyone ever ask why we are in Syria as invaders when, prior to our creation, funding, and arming and training ISIS, and Al Qaeda, Syria was one of the most peaceful countries in the Middle East, last being at war with Israel in 1967; and, most certainly NEVER any threat to US? Does anyone EVER ask why we are the self appointed thug policeman that has been almost continuously involved in military invasions of countries, not one of which was EVER any threat to do us harm, the last 60 years? Does anyone ever ask why what we see and hear and read in the media no longer even appears to be consistent with that which actually took place? Why are all the refugees fleeing the eight countries we have invaded to bring “democracy” and “freedom” to in this century? And why is it that all that now exists in those places is poverty, chaos, starvation, disease, murder, rape, robbery and mayhem among the people we have orphaned, maimed, widowed, made homeless, jobless and destitute with no possible recovery? And, even here, at home, why is it that there is almost nothing left of a middle class? THINK about what in the HELL is going on with this country! (On second thought, don’t, we already have more than enough people on anti depressants)

    • You have some valid points Richard but they’re usurped by your many invalid points.

      • Could you be more specific?

        • Iran supports terrorism, they also covet nukes and say they want to exterminate the Great Satan..aka…Us. Islam has been the aggessor for 1400 years invading other countries and Europe. Muslims don’t live and let live.

          • How many Muslims do you know? That’s what I thought.

          • Check your sources. The CIA/MOSSAD is not a reliable source for accurate information. However, the CIA/MOSSAD is a reliable source for fraudulent propaganda.

          • Exactly. Mossad motto “By way of deception, thou shalt do war”

          • America/Israel/NATO has been Invading & Regime Changing Oil &

    • Excellent questions; those critiizing you will carefully avoid answering any of them. Right on!

    • We are hoping that Donald Trump will not continue down that path as has the Bush family, The Clinton Cartel and the Obama Regime. By the way we did not stop India or Pakistan from having Nucs, or even Israel. Why? Because they did not have blow-hard psychopaths with their fingers on the red button my friend !

Maybe you should avail yourself of the latest information coming from Escapees from NK. The horrors being committed there would make most people puke because it is so brutal and insane. And here you are wanting to defend them. Are you one of those Butt Hurt Snow Flakes who thinks that if you only think positively you can pray the evil away. If so, then you really are an idiot. It is time to fight fire with fire my friend. It is even stated in your bible, “There is a time for everything under heaven”. Look it up !

      • “We are hoping that Donald Trump will not continue down that path as has the Bush family, The Clinton Cartel and the Obama Regime”

Too Late. As soon as he get in office he bombs Syria. After promising dialogue with the Nations while running for office. He’s a Warmonger just like the rest of the Presidential Flip Floppers.

        • You guys need to realize that trump, bush, clinton and all of them back to JFK are nothing more than window dressing. PUPPETS.
It’s the money power behind them that are making all the decisions
This would be like watching cartoons and thinking they are real people.

JFK fought against the evil ones behind the scenes. That’s why they assassinated him.
          All the rest are marionettes.

          • Exactly, JFK told us it was ALL the Secret Societies that make up Management that Rules over us. And America Was NO Place For Secret Societies OR Secrets. They took over after they assassinated JFK.

          • – John, perhaps they were in power when he became president. Thus, they assassinated him, published the fairy-tale about the assassination, and continued their subterfuge with impunity via the string of treasonists that were subsequently installed in the POTUS slot.

Don’t you look stupid now that his approach has broken North Korea and ISIS is wiped out.

          • North Korea is not broken; since Trump took office, they have expanding their nuclear capability and made Trump look like a dotard. They have been able to split off South Korea from Trump’s bullying tactic, and now they are able to command some respect because they are more capable of defending themselves.

As for ISIS, they were broken by Russia. And they are not wiped out.

Trump forced them out of Mosel (and gave them safe passage) while killing 40,,000 civillans to force them out.
            https://www.yahoo.com/news/isis-driven-mosul-leaves-behind-city-ruins-society-shattered-distrust-113951651.html

In Raqqa, Syria, ISIS was allowed to leave he city under the gaze of the US.
            ww.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/raqqas_dirty_secret

Those who think ISIS has been defeated must be reminded that revmoved is not defeated: ” ISIS is reportedly operational in 18 countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan and Libya, the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center said in an August 2016 report. It also has “aspiring branches” in Bangladesh, Indonesia and the Philippines.”

The intelligence Minister of Iran (a nation that helped defeat ISIS in Iraq) said recently: “ISIS has lost land, but has not surrendered its arms, and is looking for land in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asia in order to, in this way, revive the idea of the Islamic caliphate,” Alavi said,”

newsweek.com reports: “In addition to Afghanistan and Pakistan, groups claiming allegiance to ISIS have created outposts in other parts of the world, including areas of the Caucasus, the Arabian Peninsula, northern and sub-Saharan Africa and in Southeast Asia, especially in the southern Philippines. Using its still-powerful social media presence and virtual network, ISIS also has managed to share the tools necessary to carry out deadly plots with prospective jihadis across the globe. The latest example potentially being the bombing attempt Monday in New York City.

“They’re spreading this knowledge all over the world,” Ernest Barajas Jr., a former Marine explosive ordnance disposal technician who has helped organizations clear ISIS explosives, told The New York Times in a report published Monday.

“It’s going to the Philippines; it’s in Africa.” He added, “This stuff’s going to continue to grow.”

Meanwhile, the whereabouts and fate of ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi remained uncertain, even as a joint Iran and Russia-backed Syrian military campaign, an offensive by the mostly Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces and its U.S.-led coalition sponsor, and a joint U.S.-backed Iraqi military and Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces effort rapidly dismantled the last of ISIS’s self-styled caliphate in Iraq and Syria.

Both the Syrian and Iraqi governments have declared ISIS dead in their respective countries and have credited Iranian intervention. They differ, however, on the U.S.’s role, with the former considering the U.S. presence illegal and only recognizing Iranian and Russian support.”

With John Bolton, who has urged the US to bomb Iran now National Security chief, the US may attack Iran which has been instrumental in defeating ISIS….and such a move would be a way of helping ISIS to survive.

          • The only People that look Stupid are the Products of the Dumbed Down Educational System & The Boob Tube TV Programming.!!!!!

Russia & Syria have been kicking ISIS Butt, while the US & Israel keep getting caught Arming, Supplying & Giving Air Support to ISIS.!!!!!

      • Maybe you should pull your head out of your whatever it’s in and realize that all you “know” about North Korea is the bullshit propaganda that comes out of our deep state controlled presstitute media. The same media that touts a four percent unemployment statistic, less than two percent inflation, and jobs creation that only exists in a computer model. No one “escaped” from North Korea. And nothing else that is spoon fed to us by the mass media, government schools, our “diplomats”, or any of the other instrumentalities of the military/financial/war industry/security complex is true either. It might interest you look closely at the original documents of the founding of this country after the Revolutionary War and compare them to those of the government that followed the War of Secession (Wrongfully called the Civil War). You will find that what you “know” about our current form of government is about as much as you “know” about North Korea, and most of the rest of the nations of the world as well.

    • Nailed it !!!
      I have one to add.
Does anyone ever wonder how the worst of us has risen to power enabling them to dictate what we all must do?
The people that start the wars never fight them. Put mattis and all the rest right on the front lines and they will suddenly change their rhetoric.

      Keep planting seeds my friend.

      • No, because we know exactly how they rose to power: we PUT them there! Because we’re too stupid to recognize the colossal mistake we made in putting them there!

        • Wrong – The Corrupt & Easily Hackable Electronic Voting Machines Put Them There.!!!!!

          • Shadowkey392 | March 28, 2018 at 6:14 pm |

No, that was just part of it. The rest was allllllll us!

          • Only if You are Voting for Them – Then You Put Your Hand & Mind With Them.!!!!!

“Decline not to the right hand, nor to the left: turn away thy foot from
evil. For the Lord knoweth the ways that are on the right hand: but
those are perverse which are on the left hand. But he will make thy
courses straight, he will bring forward thy ways in peace.” Proverbs 4:27

    • Great job, Richard, you nailed it perfectly. The warmongers either have no clue as to the extinction of life on Earth from a global nuclear war, or worse, they’re pushing for such an event. They actually believe they can survive a global thermonuclear war. No bunker, even with generators, will protect them. Generators eventually shut down, and what will these idiots do then? They’re sealed inside and the air’s filling up with CO2. Guess what? They’re going to panic, before dying in agony of suffocation.
The US isn’t only a bully, it’s a coward. Since the end of WWII, it hasn’t won any significant wars it started. The 1950-53 Korean War ended in a stalemate; The 1965-1975 Vietnam War ended in defeat. The first Gulf War doesn’t count, in that Iraq invaded Kuwait. The 2003 invasion of Iraq was an act of aggression, as was the invasion of Afghanistan just before it. US troops were forced out by the Shia gov’t that had replaced that of Saddam Hussein (no victory there), and the Afghan War’s in its 16th consecutive year, with no end in sight.
And, as you rightfully said, domestic issues have been ignored for too long. The infrastructure’s crumbling before our eyes; the Middle Class is fast disappearing, and the national electrical grid hasn’t been upgraded for decades, leaving it totally vulnerable to either an EMP or a CME. Either way, at least 90% of the US population will certainly perish from either event, unless the grid’s made invulnerable to these two events.

      • We weren’t defeated in Vietnam you silly goose (the left refused to finance it any longer…right when the north was ready to quit. Google it for yourself (General Giap…if America bombed anymore we would have thrown in the towel). And Richard nailed it?! Maybe we have infrastructure issues because we have been giving everything away for free like Obummercare…someone has to pay for it. • And which points would that be in my previous post? They are all well documented, and all have taken place during my lifetime starting with our entry into WW II. That entry actually began before December 7, 1941, but clandestinely before Pearl Harbor. Are we to be considered to have some form of divine right (what god would confer that?) to launch an unprovoked attack? We, what passes for our government, have continuously refused all efforts to negotiate a peace treaty to end the Korean “police action” truce of 1953. We have given many indications of a willingness to break that truce, having just concluded another, so why do we feel that we are the only ones entitled to possess weapons? We didn’t threaten the Soviet Union, China, India, Pakistan, or Israel (whom we violated the non-proliferation treaty to make their nuclear weapons program possible) when they developed their nuclear capability. Incidentally, China was a co-belligerent with North Korea in that conflict and have stated clearly their intent to intervene again if we initiate military action against North Korea. Russia has also made it clear that they will support China and North Korea if we initiate hostilities. Either of those countries have enough nuclear weapons and the sophisticated means to deliver them to destroy most life on earth, so nuclear war would leave earth a ghost planet.

  6. You can bet the MIC is itching to use whatever new weapons they’ve created and deployed. There’s no money in having them just sit there.

  10. It is time to tell Fat Boy that threats only serve to strengthen our resolve IT IS TIME TO CALL HIS BLUFF !
If America does not call his bluff, we will be shown to be weak and powerless. Using what is already in our stockpile will not cost America anything if used. The cost will come in when and if the war becomes a protracted one. So, in other words, our military had better make the first strike a direct hit on Fat Boy and his missile launchers and/or silos.

America cannot afford another ground war for obvious reasons, because we no longer have the resolve to take out the enemy in one fell swoop. The problem arises when trying to decide if war is truly righteous without all the lies used to sway the American people to go to war over resources. America waited far too long to jump into WW-II. If our president then had made the decision to enter sooner the war would have been over much soon as well.

Remember that Japan was forced into attacking Pearl Harbor and our President knew it because we were sanctioning their steel industry for political reasons at the time. We can no longer use sanctions to try and corral unruly psychopathic men. As far as I am concerned we must use our scalar weaponry which was referred to as “Kinetic Weapons”. America has had those types of weapons for decades as evidenced by what Tom Bearden has revealed in his book, “Star Wars Now”, which goes into the “Bohm-Aharonov Effect”, “Scalar Interferometry & Soviet Weaponization” written in 1984.

How devastating those types of weapons can be has yet to be revealed, but you can bet that it will come from a directionable satellite.

    • Yeah what the hell show North Korea what you can do and teach them a lesson and dont worry about the rebound whats a few million dead Americans worth at least we didn’t back down and really showed the world when we say something we mean it. “THE ART OF WAR”

North Korea in the Great Nuclear Game

        by Manlio Dinucci

For Manlio Dinucci, the North Korean Crisis is preventing us from seeing the wood from the trees. To appreciate the true extent of the crisis, we must not be blinkered and focus only on the fact that Pyongyang has the atomic bomb. We must open our eyes to three other facts: 1/ the Great Powers have unbelievable stocks of nuclear weapons; 2/another 35 states are on the point of acquiring them; and 3/confronted by the US strategy, states that possess nuclear weapons are better able to fend for themselves than the parasitic states that do not, where widows and orphans will be bred.

The political-media spotlights are directed at North Korea’s nuclear missile tests. Yet the general context in which these test are taking place is completely obscured. What is this context? An arms race that is gathering pace, that while it maintains a nuclear arsenal capable of wiping out the human race from the face of the Earth, points its heads and high tech carriers that are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

In 2017, the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) considers that North Korea has “fissile material with the potential to produce 10-20 nuclear heads, but there is no evidence available that it has made operational nuclear heads that can be transported by ballistic missiles”. Still going by what the FAS reports, the U.S. has 6,800 nuclear heads of which 1,650 are strategic and 150 are non-strategic, poised for immediate launch. Including the French and British heads (300 and 215 respectively), Nato nuclear forces have 7,315 nuclear heads, of which 2,200 are ready for launch, compared with 7,000 Russian nuclear heads of which 1,950 are ready for launch. Still, going by what the FAS thinks, around 550 US, French and British heads ready for launch, are stationed in Europe in the closest proximity to Russian territory. The analogy would be if Russia had lined up in Mexico a hundred nuclear heads pointed at the U.S. Taking account of the Chinese bombs (270), Pakistani bombs (120-130), Indian bombs (110-120) and Israeli bombs (80), the total number of nuclear heads is estimated at about 15,000. Of course these are approximate figures, almost certainly default. And the race to nuclear weapons continues while the nuclear heads and nuclear carriers are constantly being updated.

Leading the pack is the United States which is constantly running tests on Minuteman III, its intercontinental ballistic missiles and is prepared to replace them with new missiles (the cost of which is estimated at 85 billion dollars). In 2015, Congress approved a plan (the cost of which is estimated at around 1,000 billion) to fortify its nuclear forces with another 12 submarines for attack (each 7 billion), each armed with 200 nuclear heads, and other strategic bombers (550 million each), each armed with 20 nuclear heads. This is the backdrop for replacing the US nuclear bombs B61, stationed in Italy and other European countries, with the new B61-12, weapons for a first strike. The nuclear forces have also been strengthened by the “anti-missile shield” to neutralize enemy reprisal, such as those lined up by the US in Europe against Russia and in South Korea, not against North Korea but in actual fact, against China.

Russia and China are speeding up the modernization of their nuclear forces so that they do not fall behind. 2018 will see Russia lining up a new intercontinental ballistic missile, the Sarmat, with an 18,000 km range, capable of transporting 10-15 nuclear heads that, entering the atmosphere at a hypersonic speed (more than 10 times the speed of sound), manoeuvre so as to dodge the interceptive missiles piercing the “shield”.

In such a situation, where a closed circle of states maintains an oligopoly over nuclear weapons, where the state that possesses them threatens the state that does not have them, it is increasingly probable that other states will seek to obtain them for themselves … mission accomplished. In addition to the nine states that already have nuclear weapons, there are around another 35 states with the capability to build them.

And yet the newspapers and the news pay no heed to this; they set off the alarm on North Korea, condemned as the exclusive source for the nuclear threat. Also left out of consideration is the lesson that in Pyongyang they say they have learnt: Gaddafi – they recall – had totally renounced every kind of nuclear programme, allowing CIA inspection on Libyan territory. However, this did not save him when the USA and Nato decided to destroy the Libyan State. And so they reason in Pyongyang that if this state had had nuclear weapons, no one would have had the courage to attack it. Such a conclusion can also be extracted from other examples: in the present global climate, it is better to have nuclear weapons than not to have them.

Meanwhile on the basis of this dangerous logic, the probability of nuclear proliferation increases. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, adopted by the vast majority of the United Nations last July, is ignored by all nuclear powers, by Nato members (Italy included) and by their principal partners (Ukraine, Japan and Australia). Fundamentally, there is a large mobilization for insisting that our country is also a party to the Treaty on the Prohibition on Nuclear Weapons and therefore must remove from its territory the U.S. bombs lined up there. The presence of these bombs also violates the Non-Proliferation Treaty which Italy has already ratified. If you lack a political conscience, then at the very least, your basic survival instinct should be triggered.

        The New Media World Order

        by Thierry Meyssan

In only a few months, the content of the Western national and international media has undergone profound change. We are witnessing the birth of an Entente about which we know almost nothing – neither the real initiators, nor the real objectives – but whose direct anti-democratic consequences can be noticed immediately.

The West is currently going through an unprecedented systemic change – powerful forces are progressively orienting the totality of media in a single direction. At the same time, the content of the media is mutating– only last year, they were still logical, and tended towards objectivity. They offered one other mutual contradiction in a spirit of healthy competition. Now they act in gangs, basing their coherence on emotions, and becoming vicious when they are facing people they condemn.

The idea of an Entente between the media is an extension of the experience of the International Consortium for Investigative Journalism (ICIJ), which does not unite the media, but only individual journalists. It made itself famous by publishing information stolen from the accounts of two law firms in the British Virgin Islands, and from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the bank HSBC, and the Panamanian firm Mossack Fonseca. These revelations were mainly used to discredit the Russian and Chinese leaders, but also, once in a while, to shine some light on genuine offences committed by the Westerners. Above all, under the honourable pretext of the struggle against corruption, the violation of the confidentiality of lawyers and banks seriously damaged thousands of their honest clients without any reaction from public opinion.

Over a period of approximately forty years, we have been witnessing the progressive grouping of media within certain international trusts. Currently, 14 groups share more than two thirds of the western Press (21st Century Fox, Bertelsmann, CBS Corporation, Comcast, Hearst Corporation, Lagardere Group, News Corp, Organizações Globo, Sony, Televisa, The Walt Disney Company, Time Warner, Viacom, Vivendi). From now on, the alliance operated by Google Media Lab and First Draft is forging links between these groups, which already enjoyed a dominant position. The presence in this Entente of the three most important Press agencies on the planet (Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, Reuters) guarantees it hegemonic power. This is without any doubt an «illicit entente», established not with the goal of price-setting, but mind-setting, the imposition of an already dominant thought.

We may have noticed that all the members of the Google Entente – without exception – have already, over the last six years, given unequivocal visions of the events that occurred in the Greater Middle East. And yet there had been no prior agreement between them, or at least, none of which we were aware. It is intriguing to note that five of the six international television channels which participated in the NATO propaganda cell are part of this Entente (Al-Jazeera, BBC, CNN, France24, Sky, but apparently not al-Arabiya).

In the United States, France and Germany, Google and First Draft assembled the media present locally in the countries concerned, and others present on the international scale, to check the veracity of certain arguments. Besides the fact that we do not know who is hiding behind First Draft, and what political interests may have influenced a commercial company specialised in computer science to finance this initiative, the results achieved have little to do with a return to objectivity.

First of all because the allegations are not chosen for the place they occupy in the public debate, but because they have been quoted by individuals that the media Entente intends to vilify. We might imagine that these verifications enable us to get a little closer to the truth, but that is not the case at all – they reassure the citizen in the idea that the media are honest, while the people they are condemning are not. This approach is not aimed at better understanding the world, but at beating down the people to be sacrificed.

Next, because an unwritten rule of this media Entente stipulates that only allegations from sources outside the Entente should be checked. The members agree not to use any critical faculty in the mutual appreciation of their work. They agree to reinforce the idea that the world is divided in two – «we» who tell the truth, and «the others» who are liars. This approach is damaging for the principle of pluralism, a precondition for democracy, and opens the way to a totalitarian society. This is not a new phenomenon, because we saw it at work during the coverage of the Arab Springs and the wars against Libya and Syria. But for the first time, it is aimed at a Western line of thought.

Finally, because the allegations that have been qualified as «false» will never be envisaged as errors, but always as lies. The point is to charge the «others» with Machiavellian intentions in order to discredit them. This approach damages the presumption of innocence.

That is why the functioning of the ICIJ and the Entente created by Google and First Draft violates the Munich Charter adopted by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) (Title II, articles 2, 4, 5 and 9).

It is no coincidence that certain absurd legal actions have developed against the same targets as those in the sights of the media Entente. In the United States, the Hogan Law has been dragged out for use against the Trump team, despite the fact that this text has never, absolutely never, been applied since its promulgation two centuries ago. And in France, the Jolibois Law has been revived for use against the political tweets of Marine Le Pen, despite the fact that jurisprudence had limited the application of that law to the distribution of a few ultra-pornographic magazines lacking a plastic wrapping. Since the principle of the presumption of innocence for scapegoats has been eradicated, it is now possible to put anyone on trial for any legal pretext. Furthermore, the legal actions mounted against the Trump team and Marine Le Pen, in the name of the laws named above, should also be be brought against a great number of other people – but they are not.

Moreover, citizens no longer react when the media Entente itself broadcasts false allegations. Thus, in the United States, they imagined that the Russian secret services had a compromising dossier on Donald Trump and were blackmailing him. Or, in France, this Entente invented the idea that it is possible to employ a fictitious parliamentary assistant, and went on to accuse François Fillon.

In the United States, the large and small media which are members of the Entente went after the President. They garnered their own information from the wire-tapping of the Trump team which had been illegally ordered by the Obama administration. They work in coordination with the magistrates, who are using them to block the actions of the present government. This is without doubt a Mafia system.

The same US and French media are attacking two candidates for the French Presidential election – François Fillon and Marine Le Pen. To the general problem of the media Entente is added the false impression that these targets are victims of a Franco/French conspiracy, whereas in fact, the instigator is a US citizen. The French notice that their media are rigged, wrongly interpret the conspiracy as being directed against the right wing, and continue erroneously seeking the manipulators in their own country.

In Germany, the Entente is not yet effective, and probably will not be until the general elections.

During Watergate, the media claimed to represent a «Fourth Estate», after the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judiciary. They affirmed that the Press exercised a function of control over the government in the name of the People. We can ignore for a moment the fact that President Nixon was charged with a similar offense to that of President Obama – bugging his opponent. We know today that the Watergate source, «Deep Throat», far from being a «whistle-blower», was in reality the Director of the FBI, Mark Felt. The treatment of this affair was a battle between a part of the administration and the White House, in which the electors were manipulated by both sides at once.

The idea of a «Fourth Estate» supposes that we recognise the same legitimacy for the 14 corporate trusts which own the great majority of the Western media as for the citizens. This is to affirm the substitution of an oligarchy for democracy.

The remains one point which needs clarification – how have the targets of the Entente been chosen? Tthe only obvious link between Donald Trump, François Fillon and Marine Le Pen is that all three hope to re-establish contacts with Russia, and fight with her against the breeding ground of jihadism – the Muslim Brotherhood. Although François Fillon was the Prime Minister of the goverment implcated in these events, all three of them represent the train of thought which contests the dominant vision of the Arab Springs and the wars against Libya and against Syria.
