Mozilla Joins George Soros’s Efforts In Launching A Strike Against “Fake News”

By Aaron Kesel

Mozilla, the non-profit organization which runs the Firefox internet browser, said Wednesday it was launching an effort against “fake news,” as fact-checking software backed by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and George Soros got its first run-out in public to shape our Orwellian nightmare of future truth arbiters.

Mozilla said it was “investing in people, programs and projects” in a new initiative to “disrupt misinformation online” calling for a “Mozilla Information Trust Initiative,” or MITI for short, Business Insider reported.

They further stated the “internet’s ability to power democratic society suffers greatly” because of fabricated stories, such as the “Pope endorsing Donald Trump for the U.S. presidency” or a “dead FBI agent killed in a mysterious fire with information on former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton” – just two examples of stories that turned out to be bogus.

Mozilla’s innovations director, Katharina Borchert, told AFP that the organization was working on tools for Firefox and better online education with media groups, universities, and tech activists.

The “Mozilla Information Trust Initiative” comes just as an automated real-time fact-checking engine dubbed the “bullshit detector” was demonstrated in London.

The group that created the fact-checking engine, Full Fact foundation, is backed by Omidyar and our favorite billionaire tycoon Soros.

The organization stated its software is “capable” of spotting lies in real-time and was used to fact-check a live debate at the House of Commons. How that objective was achieved isn’t clear since it’s likely automated A.I., but algorithms are not 100% accurate.

“As the proponents of propaganda and misinformation become more sophisticated in their use of technology, it is important that fact checkers do not fall behind in our fight against it,” Full Fact said.

“This is an important investment in the future of fact-checking,” Stephen King, of the Omidyar Network, told The Guardian.

“You only have to look at the number of initiatives that have risen up to address this challenge, either by tech companies or other organizations to see how worrying this phenomenon is to so many,” Borchert added.

I worry more about those who want to act as fact checkers, blatantly ignoring propaganda and fake news by the MSM while targeting alternative media and dictating what is and isn’t important for public consumption.

“Whether it’s become a big enough priority is perhaps a better question,” Borchert said, arguing that it was time for rival news organizations to “rally around” each other to confront the spread of fake news.

Then you have Wikipedia founder, Jimmy Wales, planning to launch a crowd-funded news service called Wikitribune to help combat fake news.

So you have all these people, some of whom have even once advocated for a free and open Internet, now advocating for controlling the flow of information under the moniker of “fake news.”

How about all the fake news spread by the CIA and intelligence services called planted propaganda usually for pushing war? Especially as a new report questions the veracity of claims made by a shady firm Cloudstrike that “Russia hacked the election” – how about that fake news?

Putting the future of what we believe in anyone’s hands, let alone artificial intelligence, seems reckless; but a system backed by Soros and Omidyar seems like a dangerously stupid idea that can only lead to a path paved toward Orwellian censorship the likes of which even George Orwell couldn’t have imagined.

  1. I’m bailing out of Mozilla right now. I will not be associated with Soros in any way. A shame, because I actually like Firefox quite a bit, but I hate Soros even more.

So Mozilla is associating & working with a BRAGGING NAZI COLLABORATOR .
    Here is some TRUE NEWS
Did George Soros disclose his Nazi collaboration on his USA immigration papers?
I guarantee he did NOT, because he would not have been admitted.
Therefore he LIED on his immigration forms and his “admittance” to America is NULL & VOID.
Deport Soros & his SPAWN to their native Hungary (which has an arrest warrant for WWII out on him).
Not one more PEEP about the holoCOST —— ALL the Soros Family money should be forfeit ….. it was founded on money stolen from Jewish victims of the Holocaust and should ALL be handed over as reparations ———— Or was there NO holocaust?! There was NO holocaust — if there had been Israel & Jews everywhere would be DEMANDING George Soros be HANGED. Soros’ multi $BILLION fortune was started on supposedly stolen Jewish property, and yet NOT A PEEP out of Israel?! Why are janitors and clerks persecuted but Soros walks free and BRAGS about it!? FUNNY there are no Israeli demands Soros’ money be turned over to holocaust survivors? ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PUDmLCkgNc .

  3. I have been using Firefox since the beginning (Mozilla browser days) but now it is time to dump it. As I use Linux I will be installing Opera, Yandex, Web (Gnome) and continue with my usage of Chromium.
So long Firefox, I always had my doubts but alas you have shown your true colors. The truly sad part is that the developers actually buy into this “Fake News” game of “I know you are but what am I” 😛

What a sad, infantile species we have become.

Censorship is censorship whether you block a site or advise “against” visiting said site because it MAY contain information which MAY not be factual. Control the information and you control EVERYTHING.

    • “What a sad, infantile species we have become.”

You nailed it on that one, and not just the developers but our so called leaders as well.
It’s like we have entered the twilight zone of perpetual 7th grade antics.
Look at what is happening right now with trump and kim. “My dad is bigger than your dad”
And this represents the best we have?

It’s time the real adults within the common man intervene and say, “Okay, you guys had your chance and you’re screwing everything up. You’re done”

I wonder whose “hands” are the biggest, Kin Jong Um or The Donald?

        • No need to wonder.
          They are BOTH trannies, FtM.
          Unbelieveable you say ?
Open your mind and start with Barbara Bush.
Look at her early pictures, you will be astounded that you did not see it before.

          • The question is, will it pass the fact checking?

          • Still too afraid to look it up ?
Still too afraid to do some research for yourself ?
Still too afraid to actually think for yourself ?

            Typical AmeriKan.
Foolishly and destructively naive, willfully ignorant encloaked with a thick bulbous toxic fabric of arrogance.

Khazars have done their job well.

          • You do know I was mocking Firefox right?

  4. uninstalling Firefox as we speak …is garbage anyway imho

  5. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA hes the one funding fake news

  6. This measure simply MITI-gates my remaining interest in utilizing Mozilla software in any way from now on.

  7. Excellent!

  8. Guess I’ll need to use a different browser. Buh-bye Firefox.

  9. The litmus test will be vaccine searches.

    • Just did that last night. Vaccine makers in all the top search spots, even when typing in ‘dangerous ingredients in vaccines’ / ‘vaccine health risks’. I’m done with Mozilla after this news.

  10. This just smells of bullshit, and according to multiple 3rd party sources, ActivistPost is a conspiracy clickbait fake news site.

I would link my sources here, but that would cause Disqus to block my comment.

    • The links you need are in the article above and look legit to me, and this totally smells like – yup – 1984. Mind you the UK tech site gave me only a few seconds before they demanded I turn off my ad-blocker, but yeah..Mozi’s going full blown apeshyte on the world – just like googles, just like FauxBook, just like YouBoob, just like Whaaaaamazon…

All one needs to do is consider the constant updates flooding Firefox in the past two years and Googles’ change in algorithms that seem to make the outcome of information all positive for the liberal, “fake news” and very difficult to locate honest articles antithetical to the “deep state” views. Collusion? Probably so.

        • It’s unbelievable. These people are so sinister and they think they’re doing something for the ‘public good’. Pol Pot would be proud of these moves am sure. What’s next? Mandatory blaring music over our devices with the appropriate propaganda jingles screeching away? I dumped Muzzie and went to White Hat. Best move I could have made. Just hope they don’t go sjw nutjob too. Since when is censorship a good thing? What happened to all the ‘I’m fighting the man’ youth of yesteryear? Now they are so stupid they don’t even know they’re fighting FOR ‘the man’. smdh

Holy shit this is even worse than what Google did this week.

    Like, by FAR.

  12. Unfortunately, our world has become so saturated with so many lies and bs I would advise everyone to question everything. The truth with hold up against such scrutiny. Lies will not, so blocking any questioning or investigation tells you that something is definitely wrong.

Just as the ambiguous definition of terrorism is being used to be applied to anything by the manipulators, (except themselves of course) Fake news is being used in the same way. It’s the new boogie man of the internet and information. This desperate attempt to control and manipulate information tells me they are panicking.

I see that MSN has now removed their comments section altogether. I believe it is because too many people were calling BS on their slanted stories and destroying their narrative.

There is good news in this, right before you, right now.
Look at all the comments here of good people sharing good ideas to help one another.
This is a testament to what you can do when you come together and share your ideas.
    This is your strength.

    • “Question everything, even the very existence of God. For if there BE a God, He would rather honest questioning than mindless obedience.” – Thomas Jefferson

    • Yep, we do give each other strength and ideas, and you’re exactly right that that’s the reason a lot of sites have shut down comments.

  13. Dumping firefox. Brave might be worth investigating.
Soros is an unholy goat worshiper and should be sent back to Russia.

  14. Why in the name of god would any company associate them self with an international criminal and ex nazi collaborator? Entire countries are banning him form entry, like China, Russian, Hungary or Canada for his crimes avoiding prison by running form country to country yet mozzila owners think he will make a great face of marketing?
Soros is like a cartoon villain, funding terrorist organization, organizing antidemocratic protests and manipulating countries economies and currencies.
Never again will i use Firefox.

  15. Soros would not know the truth, if it smacked him up along side the head. He thrives on lies and inducing panic, chaos and violent insurrection. That’s his bread and butter.

  16. Firefox is now circling the toilet drain. I’ve used it happily but no more.
Khazarian Rothschild Agent Soros bought up the company either directly or indirectly (political machinations) using the Criminally Insane power that all of us have given the Khazars: The power to print money for free.
Money doesn’t just grow on trees for these Rothschild/Soros international central banking owners, money is FREE. Literally free.
What do they do with that FREE money ?
They don’t put it into a bank account earning 0.005% interest.
    No.
They use it to buy up the world’s corporations, governments, educations, religions, police forces, intelligence agencies and now seemingly opensource non profits like MOZILLA (Firefox browser).
    We are finished.
We will never get truth on the criminally insane international central banksters like Rothschild agent Soros.
They have INFINITE amounts of money to corrupt the system.

This is but one small example.
    Very sad day.

  18. All part of the plan to ruthlessly censor all non Globalist viewpoints. Anything that doesn’t go along with their talking points is “fake news” and will ultimately be banned. To bring in global tyranny you must first eliminate all dissenting viewpoints. This also explains the strange messages I have gotten when I visited infowars while using Firefox and why watching their videos can bs so difficult on Firefox.

  19. Ingold Inglorion | August 11, 2017 at 9:39 am | Reply

So I stay with the Vivaldi browser then. Wow Mozilla, way to pick the wrong side. George Soros is the prince of darkness.

  20. Sorry soros is by far the sickest rottin POS that was born, in his case hatched.

  21. Anyone else banned from Raw Story who has never posted there as they use Disqus too? When I followed the source of this article over to Raw Story the comments section is cheering George Soros. They also think Putin is behind Brexit. Is it possible to think entirely backwards to reality?

  22. I agree Jimmy James. I feel the same way as a lot of you ppl commenting.

  23. I just dumped Mozilla/Firefox. They’ve become a tool of the CIA/Soros/Ruling Elite New World Order Globalist Scumbaggery trying to mold our minds and control us as arbiters of alleged “Truth”. Duck Duck Go doesn’t track what websites we visit, they don’t send us advertising based on search histories. Anything that smacks of George Orwells worst nightmare must be dumped. When they try to control and steer our thinking they must be dumped. Minds are like parachutes, they function best when OPEN but they can’t REMAIN OPEN when we’re fed nothing but a steady stream of controlled so called “news”. The last thing we need is anyone trying to tell us what is and is not “legitimate” news.
I don’t use Facebook, never have, always realized it was nothing but an information gathering tool of the CIA and You Tube is also fast becoming a tool of mind control and censorship. Facebook was DARPA’s “Plan B” when the public rose up against their “Total Information Awareness” program. Way too many people fell for the scam without realizing they were “spying on themselves.”
Be mindful of what the elite are doing via chemtrails. They seek to turn us into non reproducing cyborgs by spraying us with weaponized parasites that are being tweaked in a CIA bioweapons lab at Stanford. We are breathing in this so called “smart dust” and it is boring into our lung tissue performing various pathological “missions” but we don’t have to ALLOW this! They’re hijacking our natural biology to turn it synthetic, but we are not powerless to protect ourselves from what they’re doing!

  24. This is what I’ve been saying…
The real story behind Trump’s FCC, Rollback on “Net Neutrality” https://www.fcc.gov/restoring-internet-freedom
Thanks to President Trump we still have time to make things better!

Soon or later the entire George Soros’s family will need to be taken down. I hope Trump’s people are still searching for this man?

  25. Why is Mozilla teaming up with a Nazi?

    • That’s the problem with open source. No gate keepers to keep out the Nazis, Commies and perverts.

And any open source project that becomes successful enough is always co-opted by rich special interests or greedy globalist conspirators.

  26. You guys can try out palemoon, it’s mozilla before it got weird with privacy issues.

  27. Jeez, what idiot at mozilla hallucinated this move? I’m out.

  28. I ceased using Firefox and Thunderbird shortly after the Brendan Eich witch hunt. Linux Mint user, so I went with Opera and Evolution, and haven’t had any problems. Another browser project worth checking out is Brave. It was created by (guess who) Mozilla’s former CEO. Not quite ready for prime time when I tried it a year ago, but has some very interesting features and has been constantly improving.

  29. what idiots!

FUUCK Mozilla & FUUCK Soros. You’re done. There is nothing neutrality about you anymore

  31. LOL – are you aholes kidding me? Soros making software to expose fake news? The only explanation for that, if it is true, is to control the fact checkers. If you get the public believing that the fact checker is accurate you can spit out any lie and the people will believe it. Fk all these corrupt people!

    • Being the sole arbiter of “truth” is a great gig if you can get it. Apparently Soros is rich enough to buy it outright. Time to seek an alternative browser.

  32. Check out IXqick.. doesn’t record your IP address and so far can pretty much find anything on it. I have Mozilla but dont use it…time to dump it. No Nazi sympathizers and Kappas for me.

  33. Check out Brave I like it

  34. Time to quit Mozilla. I wonder if it’s still OK to use another Firefox based browser like CyberFox and PaleMoon? I use CyberFox as my main browser and find it more convenient that Firefox.

    • I think these two will be good for a little while longer, especially if people voice their opinions about this on their related forums.

  35. Well Mozilla it was nice while it lasted by you’ve crossed a line that I can’t accept or participate in so, TOOT-A-LOO DARLIN!

  36. Time to look for alternatives now.

It’s a shame, Firefox was half decent, but this is what happens when politics gets in the way of business.

  37. John Podesta is a pedophile involved in a child trafficking outfit in DC. Organ Harvesting, all the good stuff. This is the original “fake” news story that started it all, and it’s true. Call the FBI and demand an investigation.

  38. This is supposed to be good, recommended by Styxhexenhammer from youtube:http://www.palemoon.org/

  39. “The organization stated its software is “capable” of spotting lies in real-time”

The global elite Deep State has so successfully dumbed down civil society to the point where it can no longer distinguish a lie from the truth. Critical thinking has become an endangered species on the brink of extinction…and it was all engineered by design.

The last vestiges of the population still capable of critical, rational thought are being systematically hunted down, baited out and exterminated.

“the truth shall set you free”

Well…if you aren’t capable of differentiating between the truth and a lie for yourself, how will you ever be free? The answer is…YOU WON’T.

  40. BEWARE THE GLOBAL LEFT!

Everything not deemed to be banned, shall be made mandatory.

Is that really the world you want to live in, people?

These are highly intellectual elite persons with intelligent non-cornbread names like Omidyar, Soros, Bourchert, and Sundararajan. We are so, so lucky to have these special high-brow people looking out for us. If we don’t encourage them to continue protecting us lowly mudworms from forbidden knowledge, that would just be…rude. It would be like biting the hand that lovingly enslaves us!

  44. I really hate this. I have been with Firefox from pretty much the beginning. I can’t support anyone or anything that is so stupid as to involve themselves with the likes of this despicable man. Soro’s is what is wrong with the world at large. Steal his own mothers gold fillings right out of her mouth.

  45. Did anyone here even bother to read Mozilla’s August 8th blog entry about this? No where in their somewhat lengthy article about their new “Mozilla Information Trust Initiative” (MITI) does it mention George Soros–not anywhere.

    https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2017/08/08/mozilla-information-trust-initiative-building-movement-fight-misinformation-online/

So Activist Post, writes up a click bait article about Mozilla and George Soros and people just automatically start bailing out of Firefox without bothering to find out if it’s actually true or not. It took me less than 3 minutes to find out otherwise.

If Disqus doesn’t let me post this because of the link I included I’ll try to change the link a bit and see if it will let me post it that way.

    • Quote on a Phys.org article about the subject:

Shame on Firefox/Mozilla. I’ve just sent them some feedback on this issue telling them how disappointed I am with this new initiative. I told them I would not hesitate to look for a new browser since i refuse to have my internet news feed censored. I highly recommend that All those using Firefox/Mozilla do the same. Just go to mozilla’s home page and click on the feedback button at the bottom of the page.

    • Firefox does not now and most likely will not ever include censoring of any type. Mozilla’s “Mozilla Information Trust Initiative” is a long term project that is separate from the development of Firefox so you really shouldn’t worry about your browsing experience being tampered with.

Glad you submitted feedback on the issue though. By the way, if you do a search (Google search, Bing, whatever) using the phrase “Mozilla Information Trust Initiative” without the quotes you’ll see the link to Mozilla’s August 8th blog post about this. If you read the article you’ll see that George Soros is not mentioned anywhere.

      • Felicia Scott | August 14, 2017 at 4:09 pm | Reply

Of course Soros isn’t mentioned in that corporate propaganda piece of crapola. Why would Mozilla/Firefox admit collusion with one of the most evil b-stards on the planet? You really aren’t that naive are you kmb42vt? (I hope the vt doesn’t mean you’re a communist Bernie supporter from Vermont.

        • No Felicia, I’m not some sort of Bernie communist supporter. In fact, I don’t support or belong to any political party whatsoever. I think for myself rather than let party doctrine do my thinking for me.

I’m actually old enough to remember when Mozilla was first formed by developers that split off from Netscape back in 1998. I was working in the R&D industry after 12 years serving in the US Naval Submarine Force during the Cold War (yeah, I’m that old).

Anyway, I’ve done a bit more research this morning now that there’s been enough time for more news about this to surface and I found this quote on a Phys.org article about the subject:

“”The “Mozilla Information Trust Initiative” comes as an automated real-time fact-checking engine developed by the (UK) “Full Fact foundation” was
          demonstrated in London.

The group, which is backed by Omidyar and Hungarian-born investor and philanthropist George Soros, said its software is capable of spotting lies in real time, and was used to fact-check a live debate at the House of Commons.”

That being said, it’s not enough for me to just suddenly dump the browser I’ve been using for well over a decade just for the principle of the moment. If and when some sort of “fact-checking” module is incorporated into Firefox that I am unable to turn off then I’ll switch to something else.

          • Lemonjello the Deplorable | August 16, 2017 at 9:24 am |

Sounds reasonable. At first when I heard this, it was reported to be a hoax. Then stories like this were promoted more. There are probably going to be some changes I would think. If it is not something that can be disabled, someone will probably write an add-on to disable or work around it. EFF will have a hand in it.

I have been watching the development of Brave for about a year. It is a slow process, but they do seem to be still at it. Still no Print Preview, and it could use a Bookmark Sidebar on the left.

NO, it’s not us Whites. There is no such thing as “White Privilege,” a term created by the “Master Race.” It’s time to fight, people, BUT only fight the true enemy of mankind, the aggravators, fomenters, inciters, the nastiest race to ever emerge from the human genome. I’m a Firefox user and I’ve been following Brave for a while. So far so good. They still need to implement a Print Preview, to view pages with page numbers as each page would print. This is just a common sense thing most older people will expect to see. Also I would like to see anything remotely similar to a Bookmark Sidebar on the left, as Firefox has. Otherwise overall usability is not bad.

  54. The Brave browser is an attempt to put up paywalls all over the internet. What do you think Brave means by “micropayments”? Why do people fall so easily for these deceptions?

Evil Communist censorship. The Litmus test will be 911 and global warming where all the evidence supports the anti-establishment theories and skeptics. Snopes and wikipedia has failed badly in these matters as they’re controlled by the Marxist ‘elite’.

Only to now bow to the Orwellian wrong think gods by selling themselves like a cheap whore to a psychopathic Jew the likes of Soros. We sure as hell don’t teach kids any critical thinking skills in school these days so how are we to expect them to think for themselves when they grow up! The Orwellian future is grim I can only imagine what it will be like once the immigrants outnumber us and vote in an eternity of Democratic rule. It will be amusing to see how well your muh constitution, muh non-aggression principle, muh free markets, and muh libertarianism weathers that storm

  59. Making the connections amongst the creeps is instructive … From the article above: ” … fact-checking software backed by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and George Soros got its first run-out in public to shape our Orwellian nightmare of future truth arbiters”

Pierre Omidyar being of course not only a war-crime funder of Ukraine, but the CIA tool who gave ex-gay-pornographer & Rothschild employee Glenn Greenwald, US $50 million from Omidyar, to continue Greenwald’s hyping of himself & the fraud of the Dick Cheney & Brzezinski family friend, ‘Edward Snowden’ … whom every major government knows is a fraud run by US intel, given all the facts, starting with how ‘Snowden’ allegedly first ‘leaked’ to Dick Cheney’s biographer Bart Gellman at the CIA’s Washington Post, ha!

Report at European intel agencies on the CIA frauds of Edward Snowden & Glenn Greenwald:

  60. If true, makes me glad I didn’t switch to using Firefox when I decided to drop Chrome earlier (I went with Vivaldi). I’d have been seriously pissed off if saw this upon switching to Firefox, since it’s far worse than anything Google has done.

  61. I’m on Opera. They seem to just want to make a web browser, not a political platform. I don’t need my content edited by my browser, thanks. I’m a grown-up who can think for himself.

  62. Install PaleMoon. Never come back.

This news story is fake news.

  64. I did not install Firefox in this fresh Windows anymore, I tought it may be a FAKE NEWS that Firefox cooperates with someone like soros, … anyway… I install now for 2 decades my Opera Browser and it had some lows but actually its again leading with innovations… and not only the speed counts, there are features which makes it even faster then just fast opening webpages because it includes funktions which make it unnecessary to start other Programs so in this way it is faster then fastest browser imaginable!

You need to be told what news to believe, because you are unable to double check the news for yourself. And you are to stupid to be able to make up your own mind. The masters of the internet must tell you what to think. 😉
