Prohibition of cannabis is over. It may not be legally over yet, but in the minds of men and women, it’s over.

A new YouGov poll shows a new record high of Americans now support the legalization of marijuana by a widening gap. Americans that support legalization grew to 55% while those who support prohibition fell to 33%.

The poll showed for the first time a majority of republican voters now support marijuana legalization. Not for medical cannabis, mind you, because a large majority already supported that. A majority of GOP voters now support full legalization for all uses, including recreational.

With several more states voting to legalize cannabis in some fashion this November, expect to see the walls of prohibition continue to crumble.

  1. HALLELUJA!!

  2. Everyone has had personal experience with marijuana, even if it was only a friend or acquaintance that has used the herb. No one is afraid of marijuana because there is essentially nothing to fear and is much more benign than alcohol. Nonetheless, excessive use is very hazardous, just like every other substance. If we were civilized, people could grow it in their garden. Folks, you can’t make a life out of any substance ingestion but certainly many have tried to do so.

    • Excessive use of water or vitamins will kill you too. The measure of whether or not something should be legal shouldn’t be, “What are the consequences if a total idiot uses it?”, unless we are to have a government that should assume all people are idiots, and then where are we with the idea of Freedom or Liberty? People should be free to be idiots.

    • No excessive use isn’t “very hazardous.” You can’t OD on it unless you were able to eat about 2 pounds in 30 seconds, which is impossible. It doesn’t have one single bad effect, unless you consider getting the munchies a bad thing.

      • It is possible to kill yourself by drinking too much water. When it comes to substance ingestion, quantity is everything. Heavy ingestion, 10-20 joints per day, for many years will cause brain damage and in severe cases schizophrenia. There is no free lunch, everything comes at a cost. Try moderation in everything.

  3. The best thing to do is get high, stay stoned, hallucinate with psychedelics and hope for the best. The US is one fu*ked up place!

    • Yeah, but compared to the other choices and the choices of the past, the average US citizen is at the level of luxury that the majority of mankind throughout all of history could only dream about. Try to keep perspective.

      • : Iceland , Norway, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Uruguay,
Australia, New Zealand, Canada… off the top of my head.
You can’t compare the “level of luxury” throughout the ages …. like apples to rocks

        • You don’t own me, I can compare anything I want, take your poor attitude and shove it. Anthropologists indeed compare things like luxuries through the ages all the time, your ignorance not withstanding. So your contention is that because 20% of the people in the world live in rather advanced and luxurious countries that the other 80% don’t count or the people throughout the history of our planet? You are narrow minded and a very poor thinker. You should be ashamed of yourself for that empty and ignorant reply.

          • Oh yes, I do own you… but i will indulge your nescient ramblings about luxuries.
I’ll be say… Philadelphia circa 1950 and you can be ancient Rome.. perhaps the Pax Romana period.
            Here are my Philadelphia “luxuries”.
Automobiles, electricity, antibiotics , telephone, air travel, atomic bomb… and Drive-in Movies.

            Your turn Rome.

    • You really dont get that this “sober” world of work debt war and environmental suicide is not real or healthy. But people getting high without harming others scares you to death. Who is trying to escape reality here?

  4. People who support prohibition are anti-freedom and hate America. Period. End of freaking story. Look at all the scumbags who supported prohibition over the years:

    1) Christian Sharia Law churches
    2) Politicians
    3) Thugs in uniform with badges hired to rob the people at gunpoint

Not an honorable or decent human being among them…

    • Rubbish, it’s not a natural state to be dopes up all the time. Nothing to do with freedom. In fact using it is escapism, like taking away control. Another way for them to control the masses by doping them

      • “Rubbish, it’s not a natural state to be dopes up all the time.”

NOWHERE did I say that was the point of having freedom, you lying little troll. You obviously don’t understand the concept so buy yourself a dictionary and start there.

“In fact using it is escapism, like taking away control.”

ANYTHING can be escapism – unhealthy sports obsessions, sexual addiction, belief in perfect government. You obviously haven’t lived much.

” Another way for them to control the masses by doping them”

But little hypocrites like you will NEVER confront a mental health doctor and use that pitch, even though it is documented how they hand out SSRIs like candy. Your problem is that you hate NATURAL drugs and prefer to become a pharmaceutical zombie…

  5. Legalization means healthier people, more people in the work force, dramatic economic/taxation increase. What’s not to like?

    • You must be stoned.
Legalization does not mean healthier people; has similar consequences as tobacco. More people in the workforce, seriously? More people doing a crappy job in the workforce because they are stoned.
You want increased taxation? WTH? Are you on welfare?
I’ll tell you what’s not to like; stoned, lethargic people giving crappy if any service or attn to their jobs, higher frequency of auto and other accidents increased homelessness and to top it off, we working people get taxed even more to pay for all that.

      • Your an idiot….. STFU…..

        • Such a clever argument. Pot has really helped your neurological function and great depth of intellectual prowess.
Let me put this in as simple that terms you might be able to understand:
          Right back at ya!

The Midwest chemtrails gettin to ya? I bet you BELIEVE in global warming.

          • Frederikahere | July 27, 2016 at 3:12 pm |

LOL! I thought you did, almost as much as you BELIEVE in the Pot god.

          • gozounlimited | July 27, 2016 at 3:37 pm |

            Cannabis IS from GOD…..

          • Frederikahere | July 27, 2016 at 8:13 pm |

Cannabis was created by God, but you’ve made it your god.

          • gozounlimited | July 27, 2016 at 8:18 pm |

            Like I said….. your an idiot…….

          • Frederikahere | July 27, 2016 at 8:34 pm |

            LMAO!!!
Congrats on almost a complete sentence.

          • arielmonserrat | July 27, 2016 at 3:37 pm |

Pot god?? now you’re showing your true colors and you are just simply against pot, no matter what science says. Closed-minded never helped anyone and may well cause Alzheimer’s – which potsmokers won’t get because it protects against Alzheimer’s.

          • Frederikahere | July 27, 2016 at 8:15 pm |

Uh, no, read my previous post mentioning some benefits of medical MJ.
You’re just shooting your mouth off.

      • Whew, good job toeing the dug warrior line that was completely debunked by a couple of Presidents and some of the richest and most powerful people on Earth. If this was the outcome for even the majority of marijuana users, the consequences alone would keep use under control, unfortunately for propagandized idiots that want to jail, fine and/or kill people over their choice of intoxicant (such as yourself), all your assumptions and name calling is just a bunch of horse hockey.

        • Debunked by, let me guess, Obama? GW? That’s such a relevant, trustworthy debunking.
I never said anything about wanting to kill or harm anyone, that was your idea.
          Get paranoid much dude?

      • No it does not have similar consequences to tobacco. Recent scientific research has shown that it protects lungs against lung cancer. So no, it doesn’t cause lung cancer and ingredients of a joint are much different than tobacco.
Also, since pot is now legal in some places, the populace drinks less which means they will be healthier and less chance of drunk drivers. Stoned drivers don’t present near the danger and have been found to drive more carefully.
Recent scientific research has also shown that pot PROTECTS AGAINST ALZHEIMER’S as it destroys the amalyid placque that causes it. Recent research also reveals that those old hippies who have smoked it for 40 yrs DON’T HAVE ONE SINGLE HEALTH PROBLEM.
And not all people who are stoned are lethargic, many are not.
You really need to keep up with recent research, you have no reason to not support pot legalization, unless you WANT to believe the lies that Nixon started about it.

        • I have read different medical studies and had different experiences with habitual pot smokers, so yes, I have kept up with research on it.
Case in point, Denver is getting more and problems, such as I mentioned above, from said legalization. Kansas does get some benefit from it though; the Highway Patrol just sits at the CO border and wait for the stoned drivers to come over while DUI.

I have no problem with medical MJ, which can benefit some health conditions.
As a longtime medical professional, I have seen first hand the unfortunate consequences of habitual MJ use. So as I see it, the reports you’re reading are written by pot smoking unicorns in the Land of Oz.

          • arielmonserrat | July 27, 2016 at 3:36 pm |

If you’ve seen damage from MJ, why don’t you be specific and tell us exactly what health problems they have suffered that you have seen? You don’t give specifics or sources and don’t even say what kind of “medical professional” you are. Otherwise, you aren’t adding to your credibility.
BTW, I was a therapist for many years who worked with drug/alcohol addiction rehab. I’ve sure seen my share of those whose lives were destroyed by drugs; but not pot, which never had any bad side effects other than being arrested because it’s been illegal.
Unless you give specifics on what health problems MJ has caused you’re just another paid troll flapping their lips without any evidence, sources or proof.
btw, the research papers I’ve read are done by SCIENTISTS and there are LOTS of research papers out there on the good benefits of pot. You can dismiss the research but all it shows is that you’re too closed-minded to bother with FACTS AND SCIENCE.

          • Frederikahere | July 27, 2016 at 8:37 pm |

I know, Google/Bing is so hard. You can find other papers, sites, research etc if you’d bother, but that would be too much of mind bender for you.
Wow! Other SCIENTISTS do LOTS of research and come up with different FACTS and different CONCLUSIONS.
Hate to break it to you but scientists don’t always agree and SCIENCE is never “settled.”

    Fer sure, dude.

  7. Actually, in the interest of accuracy, 45% of Republicans is a PLURALITY, not a majority.

  8. Harry Anslinger is the name you’re looking for. Another purveyor of lies and anti-freedom. And Nixon had research done on pot and when it came back favorably, he lied and said it’s bad for you. One of his henchmen recently came out and said Nixon did that to persecute blacks and hippies and make them look bad. It worked, but happily, the truth about pot is now coming out.

  9. Hey Know that the real reason there is such a big push to legalize Marijuana and Hemp? Because Monster-Santo wants to Patent it!!/ OWN it, Make ALL the money from it- from us gullible sheeple. We must find a way to stop them, ALL of them

  10. In the UK we are far from legalising marijuana, but having seen the effects it can have long term. In people I really don’t agree with free usage. People are generally irresponsible with it and I gi wouldn’t like to walk around smelling it everywhere. No thanks I like fresh air in public places. Where I live a guy in the upstairs flat smokes itsnd in the morning i hate. Walking through the communal corridor and have tgethe smell on my clothes.
