Vice President Biden: “The Second Amendment Says You Can Limit Who Can Own A Gun”

Someone give Vice President Joe Biden a pocket Constitution because he is in desperate need of a review.

In an interview with CNN’s Gloria Borger on Monday, Joe Biden made the ridiculous claim that “the Second Amendment says you can limit who can own a gun.”

Biden was asked by Borger, “So does Bernie Sanders have to change his position on gun manufacturers in order to have your support and you out there campaigning for him, should he be the nominee?”

The Vice President responded, “No, (what) Bernie Sanders has to do is say the Second Amendment says which he has of late, the Second Amendment says you can limit who can own a gun. That people who are criminals shouldn’t have guns. People who are schizophrenic and have mental illnesses shouldn’t have guns and he has said that.”

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Obviously, nowhere in the Second Amendment does it give government the authority to limit who can own a gun.

It is not clear whether or not Biden actually believes what he says, that the Second Amendment can take away an individual’s right to own a gun, or if he deliberately made an attempt to prey on CNN viewers with a quick perversion of reality.

  1. another imbecile in the white house posing for the cameras and bringing the nwo agenda.

  2. FURTHER PROOF THAT HE’S AN IDIOT.

  3. This plays well as another jumping off point for gun controllers. Just another flash point that sticks in the minds of our disinterested electorate.

Dems know this and will continue this tactic for any and all agenda items.

    It works…

You’re right. There will be ignoramuses believing the 2nd Amendment actually has an exception clause for criminals and schizophrenics because their Vice President said so on TV in reasonable tones with a straight face. It must be true.

And next week when he tells them the original amendment’s verbiage also included people on the No-Fly list they’ll believe that too.

  4. I’m so ashamed…

  5. The article says: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

This is ungrammatical and obfuscates the original intended meaning. The original document on file in the Library of Congress actually says: “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.”

No one knows who inserted the extra commas (first and last) as though the original authors couldn’t properly handle punctuation and clear writing. This strange editorial change began to show up in reprints and quotes years later, but the extraneous and confusing commas are not found in the original.

It irks me that even pro-Second Amendment writers and speakers get this wrong. If you take out the spurious commas it’s even more clear what the founders intended, and further reinforces the notion that Americans are not to be disarmed against their will.

And of course Joe Biden is talking nonsense as usual, with these additional exceptions supposedly written into the Second Amendment. Does anyone expect otherwise? Did the word “schizophrenic” even exist when the Bill of Rights was first penned? (No, it was invented a hundred years later).
