Kiev Implicated In Ukraine Beheadings

While American mainstream media outlets are full of daily reports of beheadings taking place in Syria and the recent beheading on Oklahoma, large-scale apocalyptic reporting of beheadings in Ukraine is strikingly absent.

One reason for this lack of incessant media coverage about the Ukrainian killings is because those who are responsible are Ukrainian nationalists – not the eastern separatists – and to report fully on the nature of the battalions responsible for the brutal acts might reveal their penchant for cruelty and their fascist sympathies.

Although the shaky ceasefire agreement between east and west Ukraine continues to hold, it was reported on September 10, 2014, by Newsweek that members of the Aidar battalion, a force of pro-Kiev nationalists, have committed war crimes in the way of abductions, executions, unlawful detention, ill-treatment and extortions. However, one of the more shocking accusations come from reports suggesting that members of Aidar have been beheading their victims and, in some cases, sending the heads back to the victims’ family members as an intimidation tactic.

In its report, Newsweek states,

images of what appeared to be the severed heads of two civilians’ started circulating on social media today, identified by Russian news channel NTV as the heads of rebel hostages.

Shortly after, Kiev-based news network Pravilnoe TV reported that it had spoken with one of the mothers of the victims who confirmed her son was a rebel, captured during fighting in Donetsk.

She said she had received her son’s head in a wooden box in the post, blaming nationalist volunteers for her son’s death. Newsweek has not been able to verify the report independently.

The Aidar battalion, as well as a number of other fascist brigades, are funded largely by Ukrainian oligarch, Ihor Kolomoyski working with his compatriot oligarchs and banker associates in Kiev.

The beheadings are by no means the sole atrocity committed by Kiev fascist forces, of course. On September 25, it was reported that the OSCE confirmed at least three mass graves in eastern Ukraine, containing the bodies of both separatists and civilians.

The OSCE stated that “The ‘military police’ of ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’ told the SMM [special monitoring mission] that three unmarked graves allegedly containing multiple bodies had been found; two of them were located in a coal mine, Komunar, near the village Nyzhnia Krynka (35 kilometers north-east of Donetsk) and one inside the village.”

In one of these burial sites, bodies of civilians were exhumed whose hands had been tied. At least one of these bodies had been decapitated.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the discovery of the mass graves could have consequences since the area was under Ukrainian government control at the believed time of the killings.

While “moderate rebels,” ISIS, Nusra, and other related groups in Syria had been beheading soldiers and civilians for years, the Western mainstream outlets refused to report on these horrific acts, instead choosing to pretend that the killers were actually peaceful freedom fighters. When NATO was ready to engage in the bombing of Syrian and Iraqi territory, those beheadings were televised on media outlets across the Western world as if they were the end of civilization.

This time, however, the Western press that is so outraged at beheadings in Syria and Iraq, remain silent on beheadings in places like Saudi Arabia and Ukraine. Clearly, some brutality is considered more brutal than others.
