Iran and six world powers are meeting today for nuclear talks in Baghdad – and Israel is unsurprisingly unhappy about such diplomacy.
In a clear sign that Israel will not be satisfied until Iran’s nuclear facilities have been bombed, Israeli Defence minister Ehud Barak yesterday accused Iran of “deception” over its recent agreement to allow UN inspectors into the country.
A statement released by Barak’s office accused Iran of trying to “reach a technical agreement that will create a deception of progress in talks in order to reduce the pressure ahead of talks tomorrow in Baghdad and postpone harshening of sanctions”. He further went on to dictate how attendees of the Baghdad talks should deal with Iran, demanding that “It’s forbidden to make any concessions to Iran. World powers’ demands must be clear and unequivocal.”
In the eyes of Israel’s warmongering ruling elite, Iran is damned if they do and damned if they don’t. If Iran refuses to cooperate by denying inspectors access to nuclear facilities, they are lambasted for their secrecy and accused of trying to conceal dangerous weapons programmes – but when they do allow inspectors into the country, they are accused of being manipulative and deceptive!
The Catch-22 situation forced upon Iran exposes Israel’s commitment to ruthless hostility towards their regional enemy, no matter how illogical the justification for such an aggressive and dangerous policy.
Their brazenly arrogant demands of other world powers reveal Israel’s belief that it is a law unto itself, above and beyond censure or criticism – an attitude only encouraged by the West’s consistently pathetic pandering to the Jewish state, despite Israel’s numerous acts of aggression and unpunished breaches of international law.
Barak’s statement also shows Israel’s supreme hypocrisy. Whilst there is no credible evidence whatsoever that Iran is trying to build a nuclear bomb – and under the terms of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty they are allowed to enrich uranium for domestic energy purposes – Israel has covertly developed a huge stockpile of nuclear weapons, despite refusing to sign the Treaty and openly maintaining a policy of “nuclear ambiguity”.
As we have previously detailed, Israel is believed to possess a vast arsenal of nuclear weapons, including: 400 atomic and hydrogen nukes, with thermonuclear weapons in the megaton range; a range of systems including neutron bombs, tactical nukes, and suitcase nukes; delivery systems including Jericho intercontinental ballistic missiles with a range of 11,500 km, and offshore second-strike capabilities using submarine launched nuclear-capable cruise missiles.
Israel’s argument that Iran would attack them if they had a nuclear bomb seems unlikely in the extreme. Any attack on Israel would make absolutely no sense strategically and would surely see Iran literally “wiped off the map” – indeed, Israel’s alarming “Samson Option” explicitly states that a strike on the country would result in massive nuclear retaliation.
The silence of Western leaders in the face of such aggressive and belligerent Israeli warmongering is contemptible – though unsurprising, considering the size and financial power of the Israeli lobby in the US and UK. We are far beyond the point where the incessant and false demonisation of Iran should have stopped, and instead the Israelithreat to world peace examined and highlighted.
