The Tougher Path to Freedom: Non-Violence

Victory attained by violence is tantamount to a defeat, for it is momentary. – Gandhi

Michael Maharrey
Activist Post

I’m conflicted.

More than anything, I simply want to live free. When others build walls against freedom, we must tear them down. But how do we go about doing that? How do we stop those that would lay chains over our wrists and ankles?

Some advocate violence. I’ve seen the calls for “revolution” and armed resistance grow in some circles in the wake of the Bundy Ranch situation. I’ll be honest, watching video of federal agents pulling back made my heart smile. Sometimes we must meet force with force. I can somewhat sympathize with those who think nothing will ever change without armed resistance.

But ultimately, I believe Gandhi was right. We will only find true freedom through non-violent means. Victory won at the barrel of a gun will prove short-lived. If we cannot find a way to change the system without resorting to violent means, we will merely rearrange the pieces on the game board. The rule of force and coercion will remain. Violence begets violence.

Government of the Rich, by the Rich and for the Rich: It’s Time for ‘Militant Nonviolent Resistance’

John W. Whitehead
Activist Post

“[E]verywhere, “time is winding up,” in the words of one of our spirituals, “corruption in the land, people take a stand, time is winding up.”—Martin Luther King Jr.

We now live in a two-tiered system of governance. There are two sets of laws: one set for the government and its corporate allies, and another set for you and me.

The laws which apply to the majority of the population allow the government to do things like sending SWAT teams crashing through your door in the middle of the night, rectally probing you during a roadside stop, or listening in on your phone calls and reading all of your email messages, confiscating your property, or indefinitely detaining you in a military holding cell. These are the laws which are executed every single day against a population which has up until now been blissfully ignorant of the radical shift taking place in American government.

Checkpoints (some would say illegal checkpoints) have been popping up quite frequently in the USA. As you see in this video, you DO NOT have to comply with their question's or demands. Don't forget, you have rights.

Laws restricting nonviolent activity are acts of aggression

J.G. Vibes
Activist Post

There is this idea in our society that has been bred into us through the media, government schools and culture, where law must line up perfectly with traditions and social convention. If something is frowned upon or taboo, you can rest assured that there is someone out there who thinks that it should be illegal.

When a particular activity or behavior starts to bother people in the kinds of societies that we have today, all too often those people are very quick to suggest that the proper solution to this problem is to throw that person in a cage. That may sound kind of harsh, but that is exactly what you are advocating when you claim that something should be illegal.

The Police Are On The Wrong Side At The Occupy Wall Street Protests (Video)

UNsafe in New York

New York City was under siege this week. Decent folk cowered at home while two-bit thugs stalked our streets, guarding the self-important sociopaths invading Manhattan.

Yep, the United Nations’ General Assembly met as always at this time of year, plotting to grab more power over the world, and the NYPD milked that for all the overtime it could get.

Were you to stroll around the skyscrapers in midtown, you’d assume you’re in occupied territory. Cops – phalanxes of them – clog every intersection, and movable, metal barricades fence off whole streets, confining New York’s disarmed populace to sidewalks as though we pose some sort of threat. Recall that many of the dictators bloviating at the UN have hundreds or thousands of rapes and murders, a war or two, torture and often even genocide to their credit, not to mention the usual plunder and theft. Yet Our Rulers fret about protecting them from us.

Occupy Wall Street Interview: Rapper Lupe Fiasco on Building 7 and Peaceful Resistance (Video)

We Are Change
Luke Rudkowski of We Are Change was recently at the Occupy Wall Street event and noticed Lupe Fiasco hanging out with the crowd of protesters. Lupe wanted to know who Luke was and after talking for 20 minutes about the past work of We Are Change and our mission, Lupe gladly agreed to do the interview. Lupe gets into great detail about 911 truth, the new world order and most importantly solutions to the problems we face today. We thank Lupe for not only his words but positivity and knowledge he shares with millions of people through his music.

Revolution is a Potluck

“A revolution is not a dinner party, or writing an essay, or painting a picture, or doing embroidery; it cannot be so refined, so leisurely and gentle, so temperate, kind, courteous, restrained and magnanimous. A revolution is an insurrection, an act of violence by which one class overthrows another.” ~Mao Zedong

Revolutionize your community

First of all, don’t worry, I am not advocating violent overthrow of the Robber Class in this piece—now that your mind is eased (or disappointed), I will go on.

Today, Peace of the Action, and our Re-Creating Revolutionary Communities or Bust Tour is wrapping up near Yosemite in bucolic (and hot), Oakhurst. We began in Eugene, Or. and stopped in Hood River and Newport before heading down to California where we had events in Arcata, Garberville, Fresno and soon in Oakhurst.

At each stop, a community potluck was included and I observed and heard many revolutionary acts being planned by members of each community stemming from the mere act of building community.

Second Tibetan Monk Burns Himself to Death in Protest

Rick Gladstone
New York Times

A Tibetan Buddhist monk protesting Chinese policies immolated himself publicly in a Tibetan area of Sichuan Province in southwest China on Monday, an outside advocacy group reported. It was the second such act in the area in the past five months and appeared to reflect resistance to increased Chinese repression of loyalty to Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.

The monk was heard calling, “We Tibetan people want freedom,” “Long live the Dalai Lama” and “Let the Dalai Lama return to Tibet,” after he drank gasoline, doused himself with it and set himself alight on a bridge in the center of Daofu, a town in Ganzi County in Sichuan, according to the advocacy group Free Tibet. The group is based in London, but has a network of contacts in Tibet and Tibetan-populated areas elsewhere in China.

Xinhua, China’s official news agency, reported the death of a monk in Daofu, but did not provide details.

Ganzi, known in Tibetan as Kardze, is overwhelmingly populated by ethnic Tibetans. It has been an area of chronic tensions for the Chinese authorities, most related to the country’s Han ethnic majority.

Emancipate Yourself From Mental Slavery

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." -- Gandhi

Activist Post

Just about everyone can now feel the flames of our burning civilization.  The masses are engulfed by fear and pent-up, and often misdirected, anger.

Riots, revolutions, and rebellions are manifesting around the world as a result. Violence is increasing everywhere, further feeding the fear and anger.

As NATO seems to be incrementally taking steps to expand their "humanitarian war" into Syria, the United Kingdom government cracks down on its own "rebels." It's as if there are no other answers except for carrying a bigger stick than the other guy.

And, of course, because of the violence, the first governmental act is to eliminate everyone's rights for the collective safety.

As this cycle of violence and oppression grows more intense, we must take accountability that our fears, anger, and destructive behavior only add fuel to this raging fire.  The collective will is playing out as each of us struggles with a world in turmoil and lashes out with venom against it.

Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. Be aware, but don't beware -- there is nothing to fear. Achieve love, liberty, and peace each day in your own life and it will manifest in the world around you.

Should We Bother to Vote When Revolution Is Inevitable?

"Even supposing the chief good to be eventually the aim for the individual as for the state, that of the state is evidently of greater and more fundamental importance both to attain and to preserve. The securing of one individual's good is cause for rejoicing, but to secure the good of a nation or of a city-state is nobler and more divine." --Aristotle

It should be kept in mind that the words nation or city-state may very easily be replaced by tribe, family, society, civilization or species.

"Whenever the people are well informed, they can be trusted with their own government; that whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, they may be relied on to set them to rights." -- Thomas Jefferson in a Letter to Richard Price (8, January, 1789)

The American working class is on the brink of extinction. A strong, financially secure, educated, informed and cosmopolitan middle class is a serious threat to tyranny and totalitarianism. That's why there has been a vigorous, systematic dismantling of ours since the Nixon era.
