Houston DA And Sheriff Plan To Stop Charging Marijuana Users

By Daniel Lang

For decades the American public has been forced to endure government policies on marijuana that are unbelievably idiotic and harmful to millions of completely innocent people. They’re so dumb that Americans have been ignoring these laws en masse, even though it threatens their safety, freedom, and prosperity. These policies are so outrageous that over the last few years, even local and state governments have been ignoring the asinine drug laws crafted by the feds.

The latest example of this resistance comes from Houston, Texas, the largest city in the state. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, Sheriff Ed Gonzales, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, and Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo have decided that they will no longer charge anyone caught with less than 4 ounces of marijuana. The new policy will take effect on March 1st.

Anyone caught with pot will have to endure a four-hour drug class, and the marijuana in their possession will be confiscated by the police. No court appearances, no jail time, and no criminal records that could ruin the lives of harmless drug users. The officials behind this policy believe that it will save the county $10 million per year, keep 12,000 people out of the justice system, and give more resources to law enforcement for dealing with violent criminals.

The Sheriff’s office noted that “We’re really encouraged by these swift actions by the district attorney, and we are looking forward to working with Harris County’s criminal justice leadership identifying common-sense solutions to our broken criminal justice system.”

These days its pretty easy to criticize the justice system and law enforcement. After all, they’re the ones who have been ruining countless lives for decades by enforcing the drug war. But it’s heartening to see that these people are capable of opening their eyes and ignoring contemptible laws that have burdened Americans for so long.

  1. Cannabis is the singularly most healing herb in God´s greenhouse. Evil men had it classified fraudulently in order to profit from its being withdrawn from the field of “natural medicine.”
The attempt of pharmacy lobbyists, politicians and police agencies, to award control of cannabis consumption to the medicine industry, simply continues the dollar profitting scheme of evil men who abuse instead of serve the trust of Americans.
All of you who are guilty have hindered the lives of millions of our teenagers and burdened them with a criminal record that they did not deserve. It is you who deserve punishment, not our teenagers.

  2. If stoners gain a legal right to get high, they cannot receive ‘special’ rights to protect them, like other aberrant laws protecting minority or fringe groups. Employers must retain their right to not hire them or fire stoners who come to work high. Business owners must retain their right to refuse service if a customer is blatantly high and disruptive. If people choose to get high and drive, causing an accident, their charges should be higher and if it happens again, they should lose their right to drive, unless they kill someone then they should go to jail for a very long time, or perhaps lose their life. It’s when the evil government doesn’t maintain a fair balance, that problems arise.

  3. If God did not intend for us to smoke/ingest marijuana then why did he decide to add millions of cannabinoid receptors to our central nervous system without which we would have no incentive to smoke it? Fellow Christians are always dumbfounded when asked this question or for that matter how they can continue to demonize one of God’s more marvelous creations after reading Genesis 1:12!

“And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his
kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his
kind: and God saw that it was good”.

I have had some Christian (fundamentalists) go on to point out the link between the Greek word “pharmakia” (meaning sorcery) and drugs however it is clear this word is where we derive “pharmaceutical”, “pharmacy” and “pharmacist”. Nothing to do with marijuana but a fairly clear warning from God to avoid pills and those who dispense them!

  4. There should be no restrictions on this herbal medicine.
You should not have to endure drug tests at work. Work should be performance based.
THC/CBD are in love with our DNA.
Come to Colorado and imbibe for the health of it, while watching gorgeous sunsets.

  5. No government has the authority to deny people access to any medication that they want.
No government has the authority to force any poison or medication on anyone.
Those apply to everything from marijuana to fluoride.
