Terrorists Wage War on Each Other in Syria; New Round Of Propaganda Begins

As the deranged coterie of extremists, religious fanatics, terrorists, and mercenaries known as the Syrian “rebels” begins to disintegrate both from the constant assault by the Syrian military and their own inability to cooperate even amongst themselves, a new attempt at propaganda regarding the nature of the “rebels” is beginning to take shape within Western media outlets.

Indeed, the death squad fratricide now taking place within Syria is slowly but surely being turned into a false narrative of “moderate” versus “extremist” in the death squad camp which will possibly be used to bring the propaganda full circle and provide a representation of some of the death squads as democracy-loving freedom fighters who only want freedom from an oppressive government – a representation which couldn’t be further from the truth.

The divide between various death squad groups has been developing for some time. However, on September 25, a statement was released by the notorious al-Qaeda affiliated ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) declaring war and victory over a fellow terrorist division of the FSA (Free Syrian Army), Liwa Asifat al Shamal.

The statement which can be seen in its original form as posted on Twitter was subsequently translated and posted to LiveLeak. In it, ISIS states that “On Wednesday, we purified the land from what is called Liwa Asifat al Shamal, which God wanted to expose them in front of everyone.” The group went on to list eight “examples of their treason before and now.” ISIS also stated that,

Based on that, our jihadi brothers fought them and expelled this criminal gang from Azaz because whoever aligns himself with the Americans will be with them.

We assure people that we are not interested in the border crossing or indeed anything else. We say to Asifat Al Shamal that the door for repentance is open and we have released 30 of their members after they repented and pledged that they will not fight Muslims again.

Anyone who comes to us to repent before we capture him, we accept his repentance. Or else we are determined to uproot them.

Ironically, in their jihadist disagreement, ISIS actually exposes the FSA for its dependence on the West for its operations and the fact that it has been responsible for terrorizing average Syrians – all accusations which can be applied to ISIS. Some of ISIS’ justifications for battle involved the FSA’s meeting with John McCain, the defense of a German spy/medical doctor who allegedly took video footage of ISIS headquarters and members, FSA cooperation with Blackwater, working with American intelligence, stealing, robbing, and humiliating Syrian Muslims. All of these accusations, of course, although entirely hypocritical, are quite true and stand as a set of facts that Western governments and media outlets would much rather keep silent.

Likewise, the al-Qaeda affiliated Jobhat al-Nusra recently announced their rejection of the SNC (Syrian National Coalition), the pathetic and weak governing structure set up by the Anglo-Americans to replace Assad and act as a puppet government.

As Kurt Nimmo writes,

The SNC is comprised primarily of a trusted CIA asset, the Muslim Brotherhood. It is recognized by a number of United Nations member states as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people. The SNC paramilitary wing is the Free Syrian Army (FSA), a largely ineffectual military force trained and supported by the MI6, the CIA, and British SAS. The FSA has suffered a number of humiliating military defeats at the hands of the Syrian Army.

In February, 2012, we noted that the Free Syrian Army is widely recognized as a creation of NATO. It is also comprised largely of militants from the Muslim Brotherhood – an asset of British intelligence – and is funded, supported, and armed by the United States, Israel, and Turkey.

Indeed, 13 salafist death squad groups said in a joint statement on September 24, that “The National Coalition and the proposed government under [recently chosen] Ahmad Tomeh does not represent us, nor do we recognise it.”

The groups also stated that “These forces call on all military and civilian groups to unite in a clear Islamic context that… is based on sharia[Islamic] law, making it the sole source of legislation.”

In addition, the groups comically call for unity while also demanding that Islamic Sharia law be applied in Syria.

Jobhat al-Nusra, of course, is not only at odds with the SNC and the FSA. Indeed, Nusra was recently involved in battles with ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant), yet another extremist death squad organization. On Saturday, September 21, Nusra and ISIL fought each other in Hasaka province, leaving at least two people dead.

ISIL, in turn, has also had violent confrontations with the FSA. In addition, ISIL has “declared war” on two other death squad organizations in the town of al-Bab, located in the Aleppo governate.

Yet, while the divisions between the terrorist organizations in Syria are both a positive sign for the Syrian people and an example of how such extremism can even prevent mutual and temporary cooperation amongst fellow jihadists, the news of the increasing inter-death squad fighting is also a possible propaganda tool that will later be picked up by raving warmongers like John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Susan Rice, and John Kerry.

This is because, now that the allegedly “moderate” terrorists of the FSA are fighting the extremist terrorists of ISIS, the warmongers who have been dogged with the fact that they themselves are the largest supporters of terrorism on the planet, are now able to claim that the FSA are indeed the “good guys” and that moderates do exist amongst the Syrian “rebels.”

Anyone who observes the Syrian situation on even a limited basis clearly understands that the so-called rebels are nothing more than extremists, psychopaths, and religious fundamentalists. Unfortunately for warmongers like McCain and Kerry, this fact has proven slightly inconvenient for their public relations department.

However, with the recent divisions amongst the death squads – which is nothing more than extremists attacking other extremists – politicians and pundits gripped in a permanent war psychosis such as McCain and Kerry could possibly seize on this opportunity to claim solidarity between American interests and the FSA. After all, these warmongers might attempt to claim that the FSA is opposed to both Assad and al-Qaeda, thus the FSA represent a truly reasonable and suitable force worthy of the support of the American people. Obviously, this would be a gross misinterpretation of the facts on the ground if there ever was one.

Yet, such propaganda is already being seen among Western media with NPR describing the Yarmouk Brigade as “the moderate wing of the rebel movement.” Of course, if Yarmouk is considered moderate, then one should be terrified of anything considered extreme.

The Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade in May, 2013, managed to kidnap four Filipino UN troops and hold them for ransom. Reports coming out of The Spectator in May 2013 also revealed that Yarmouk Brigade was notorious for stealing and looting the Syrian people in the territories they conquered and that, as one former “rebel” stated, “One Facebook post about what they’re doing will get you killed.” These are the “rebels” that NPR and the rest of the mainstream media would have the American public believe are moderates and freedom fighters.

In reality, the FSA and its fighters are anything but moderate. As Tony Cartalucci wrote in his article, “In Syria, There Are No Moderates,”

. . . . . there were never, nor are there any “moderates” operating in Syria. The West has intentionally armed and funded Al Qaeda and other sectarian extremists since as early as 2007 in preparation for an engineered sectarian bloodbath serving US-Saudi-Israeli interests. This latest bid to portray the terrorists operating along and within Syria’s borders as “divided” along extremists/moderate lines is a ploy to justify the continued flow of Western cash and arms into Syria to perpetuate the conflict, as well as create conditions along Syria’s borders with which Western partners, Israel, Jordan, and Turkey, can justify direct military intervention.

Indeed, even the New York Times has been forced to admit that there are, as Cartalucci expertly argues in his article, no moderates in the ranks of the Syrian death squads. As Ben Hubbard writes,

In Syria’s largest city, Aleppo, rebels aligned with Al Qaeda control the power plant, run the bakeries and head a court that applies Islamic law. Elsewhere, they have seized government oil fields, put employees back to work and now profit from the crude they produce.

Across Syria, rebel-held areas are dotted with Islamic courts staffed by lawyers and clerics, and by fighting brigades led by extremists. Even the Supreme Military Council, the umbrella rebel organization whose formation the West had hoped would sideline radical groups, is stocked with commanders who want to infuse Islamic law into a future Syrian government.

Nowhere in rebel-controlled Syria is there a secular fighting force to speak of. [emphasis added]

In the end, while one can scarcely argue that the breakup and division amongst the Syrian deaths squads is a negative development, we must be on guard for an abrupt shift in propaganda narratives, especially as popular support for military action against Syria is at its lowest point and the political rug has been pulled out from under the White House.

The propaganda narratives surrounding Syria on the part of the Anglo-Americans has always been absurd and there is no reason to expect any abrupt change in this regard.
