Snipers Fire At UN Inspectors: Another Rebel Crime?

Much like the “chemical weapons attack” which took place last week inside Syria, the recent attack on a team of UN inspectors is currently being broadcast all across Western media outlets in an attempt to smear the Syrian government and portray the Syrian Army as having committed the shootings in order to prevent the inspectors from uncovering their responsibility for the attack. However, also like the “chemical weapons attack” of last week, all available evidence actually points toward the death squads and not the Syrian government.

On the way to the Eastern Ghouta neighborhood where the attacks took place, the UN Inspectors were fired upon by “unidentified snipers” which damaged one vehicle beyond repair. As RT reports,
Just in the beginning of their journey, the UN team was forced to return to the government checkpoint to replace their car, which “was deliberately shot at multiple times by unidentified snipers in the buffer zone area," the spokesman for the UN secretary-general, Martin Nesirky, said.
Despite earlier reports that the mission would be suspended, the team continued with their investigation.
"They visited two hospitals, they interviewed witnesses, survivors and doctors, they also collected some samples," UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said adding the investigation will be continued. Inspectors were reportedly satisfied with their first day of work on Monday.
[...].
Ban Ki-moon added that the UN will complain to both the Syrian government and opposition forces as a result of the attack.
"I have instructed Angela Kane to register a strong complaint to the Syrian government and authorities of opposition forces so that this will never happen and the safety and security of the investigation teams will be secured from tomorrow," he said.[1]

Yet, while Western media outlets have reported the story as if the snipers were those of the Syrian Army, much like the chemical weapons attack taking place last week, there is no evidence to show that this is the case. In fact, there is every reason to believe that it was the death squads who were the actual assailants.

First, it is important to note that the UN inspectors were fired upon and then sought refuge at the government checkpoint where they were able to replace their vehicle and continue on with their mission. With this in mind, one must ask “If the Syrian government was behind the attacks on the inspectors, why would they assist them in retrieving a new vehicle and give them refuge from the shooters? Why would the inspectors feel comfortable approaching them in this situation?”

In addition, if the Syrian government was interested in keeping the inspectors from actually investigating the neighborhood of the attacks, would the government not be capable of doing so why only a few isolated snipers? Instead, the inspectors were protected and assisted in their work and were able to complete their tasks to their own satisfaction.

Second, it is important to point out that the neighborhood in which they were attempting to collect samples, the Eastern Ghouta region, is largely under control of the death squads, with heavy fighting still taking place. If snipers were firing at inspectors coming into the neighborhood, is it not more logical that it was the death squads who have such a heavy presence in the area who fired the shots than the Syrian government forces who, by all available evidence, have been entirely innocent of any use of chemical weapons[2] since the crisis began in earnest in 2011?

Third, one must understand the history of the death squads themselves in order to assess proper blame for any sniper activity taking place in Syria, particularly when that activity is aimed at civilians or emergency personnel.

Indeed, ever since the beginning of the conflict in Syria, “rebel” forces were have taken advantage of snipers to instill fear in the Syrian people and intimidate the Syrian government. After having traveled to Syria in 2011 as the crisis was just beginning, Webster Tarpley reported upon his return that “rebel” snipers had been placed on rooftops indiscriminately shooting at whoever passed by – Syrian military soldiers, police, women, and children.[3] This was a tactic that soon expanded from Homs to many other cities being targeted by the Western-backed death squads.

Unfortunately, over time, the cruel and sadistic nature of the death squads morphed into even more atrocities, documented with videos showing the death squads machine gunning captives, beheading prisoners (see here and here), and forcing young children to behead them. I, myself, have written an article dealing with reports regarding the death squad’s hanging of a young child after murdering his family in front of him. One can also view the videos of the death squad members beating and humiliating the famous elderly “Yellow Man” in Aleppo.

But civilians were not the only targets of the death squads. In May, 2013, death squads operating inside the Golan Heights area[4] and known as the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade managed to capture[5] four Filipino UN troops and hold them until negotiations freed them. This was the second time in two months that deaths squads had captured UN troops in the area.

Thus, considering the nature of the death squads and the fact that, not only are they willing to target innocent civilians but also UN “peacekeeping” personnel, is it not reasonable to assume that they are capable of firing several rounds at a UN inspection vehicle? Indeed, if the UN inspection team was going to discover information suggesting that it was, in fact, the death squads who were responsible for the chemical weapons attack, would it not be to their advantage to halt such an inspection?

In the end, the sniper fire on the UN inspection convoy is nothing more than one more blatant attempt by Western/NATO/Anglo-American powers and the mainstream media networks that they control to propagandize their respective populations to support yet another invasion of a secular, stable, and sovereign Middle Eastern nation.

The window of opportunity to stop the tragedy of warfare in Syria is rapidly closing. The American people must act while they are still able to do so.
