Tax Bicyclists For Exhaling CO2 When They Ride, Says Wash. Rep

Freda Art
Activist Post

Taxing the air we breathe may be coming to Washington state.  Yes, the insane taxing of every behavior is rising to a whole new level with the proposed "bike tax" in Washington.

According to lawmakers who proposed the bike tax, it would help raise $1 million over the next decade to be used for road maintenance. The new $25 tax will be applied on every bike sold for over $500 in the state.

One Washington lawmaker is making twisted argument in support of the new fee. Rep. Ed Orcutt wrote in an email to a bike shop that the CO2 that bicyclists exhale while riding is just one of the reasons he supports the bike tax.

"Since CO2 is deemed a greenhouse gas and a pollutant, bicyclists are actually polluting when they ride," Orcutt wrote. Therefore, they should pay taxes to help the environment as well as the roads.

Here is his full email:

Sex increased your heart and respiratory rate also, so maybe Mr.Orcutt would like to pay a tax for that too.

If bicyclists are going to start paying a tax to use the roads, the roads had better be made bike friendly. The area I live in usually has no bike line, or even shoulder for bicyclists to use. They are dangerous.

Also, if we are taxing for CO2, what about joggers? What about singers?
What about babies crying...

What about campaign speeches?

Don't bicyclists pay property tax? Sales tax? Income tax?

And what about drivers of electric vehicles? Or vehicles with high mpg?

In the end, money is fungible. A gas tax is just another revenue stream with the added benefit that it might be able to reduce gas consumption and carbon emissions. Cycling results in less road wear, less carbon emissions, and a fitter populace (which will cost us less in insurance premiums and medicaid). What is the point of a bike tax? It is just vindictiveness from a Republican legislator who probably doesn't believe in climate change.

a better solution would be to charge everyone for the air that they breath. all humans, and any pets or farm animals that they own, could be fitted with devices that measure and regulate the amount of air breathed. Data uplinks could convey this info to a state run center, which could then automatically deduct all fees incurred from the breathing units bank account.

Olympia its state Capital has no other function than as a financial confuit for vested Interest.
Those interest are centered within a strip of land approxately 60 miles long and 20 miles at its widest.

The state cannot and never will be able to survive without Federal Generosity.

Even with al its exports of imland US products and a constantly expanding military and federal cash outlays the stste financial situation is always on edge of bankruptcy.
A tax on bikes over 500 bucks is a luxury tax and the excuse that those who ride upon multi million dollar bike paths and highway bike lanes never did and now do not contribute to their maintenance is a truism.
Did tour or your childs bike cost $500?

Each bike taking someone to work is one less car on the road. Taking cars off of congested traffic jammed roads should result in a tax credit or refund for the bike rider......if we are trying to improve our society.

Clearly this is just a dirty filthy tax grab from a fat lazy pig of........hey now, just what party is this sleazeball from? He is mentioned about 5 times in this ActivistPost article and not one time is his party affiliation given to us, odd.

Upon further investigation, this guy is (no surprise here) a REPUBLICAN.
Ever notice how when some greasy Democrat does something stupid, AP always puts up the big D beside the name. Subtle, divisive.

I dunno. I think a tax on breathing based on carbon emissions is one dumb step away from saying to someone you have to pay to exist, and if you can't pay you won't exist.

In WA a bike does not have to stay in a bike lane they are accorded the same rules of the road as an automobile on any state city or municiple street.
Where an automobile if only for a brief moment crosses a painted bike path line can receive a minimum $101 and higher fine.
State and county highways are paid for out of gasoline tax and a lot of times by Floating State Bonds and federal matching funds.
Actually license for bikes was tried in the past but state lost money as everyone more or less ignored it and the riders complined within three major citys and that's where the power is.
It is not an unusual situation where others pay for the free use of facilitys as in our hunting fees we pay for protecting songbird and shoreland refuges places that do not charge a fee but we hunters voted for them unanimously.
Of course dumb as we are we did not figure they would take game management funds and build bike trails and hire ten times more management and put up buildings that tout the State environment groupies as being the reason they are in existence.
One bike bridge over an olympia streeet cost 1.4 million out of hhighway funds.
Lots of talk about government waste but how about a trail built using hunters and fisheries funds that is over 15 miles long and is used by under 1000 Of states population.
Thousands of people displaced in many a smal coastal and inland community o save nothing in reality for the trees and enriched their owners; And then millions spent on the unpopulated town streets to provide a bicyclist hisown trail to ride upon.

Methane is an even worse greenhouse gas. We could have a flatulence tax....

Did people actually vote for this guy?

Washington State is planning on spending $750M on a new basketball stadium in addition to the $1B in football and baseball stadiums that already exist. At the same time, they are reducing teachers salaries and the school budget. They reduced metro routes and have/are putting tolls on the bridges.

We need politicians with a sense of priorities.

Cows produce more greenhouse gases than humans. The sad thing is the working person would still get screwed if they were to apply taxes to the beef and dairy industries. It would either fall on the farmer or the consumer, but never the person with the largest wallet.

If we taxed stupid ideas espoused by the retarded idiots we call politicians we wouldn't need any other source of revenue.

Bicycling has been long demonstrated as being the "most efficient form of transportation" ever devised. So the "exhaling of C02" is far more efficient, then say, the blowhard rhetoric by an idiot politicians spouting off absolute nonsense.

Using his idiotic logic, then all forms of exercise are to be taxed and regulated: swimming (very inefficient as a means of locomotion), jogging, bird watching, hiking, weight lifting, etc.

I'd much rather ride a mountain bike on a TRAIL then a road.

Fuck these stupid politicians with the TAX and SPEND attitudes.

At least he is being honest with his crap-for-brains ideas. The ultimate root of the 'CO2 causes global warming swindle' is that YOUR MERE EXISTENCE on this planet is a detriment. Hence the overpopulation myth that goes hand in hand with the notion of 'man-made' climate change. This guy just let the cat out of the bag that the underlying mentality of most 'climate alarmists', is that the ultimate 'polluters' are human beings, and if we would simply kill 90% of the worlds' population, well, it would be a fine humanitarian thing to do. Laugh if you want, but these fuckers actually think that way.

Where are the bike nazis when you need them? Do bicycle cops eat donurts or fruit loops? Motorcyclists are taxed, trucks are taxed, taxies are taxed, everything on the streets is taxed except bicycles. Tax them on the number of gears they have; also require daytime running lights on all new bikes, and side marker lamps, oh and let's not for get seat belts, airbags, annual safety inspections , smog tests, 5 mph bumpers and anti lock brakes. Where are the Obamanation level playing field, distribute the wealth turd burpers on this issue. Huh? Ain't it about time the bunny hugging tree kissing bicyclists shared the great ammerican burden

Closest i can figure, the CO2 in the atmosphere = about 0.038% of the atmosphere. The top 20 CO2 producing countries together in 2003 made 0.00038% of that amount.

CO2 is greenhouse in one UV range. Methane in two. Water vapor in 3.

CO2 from plants and animals does not add to the "global warming" CO2 increases as it is from short term carbon. As plants grow they capture CO2. People are part of that cycle, and independent from the increased CO2, which is always attributed to fossil fuel usage.

What a dipstick.

The big secret is that the #1 cause of CO2 emissions are the mega banks.

They created the credit bubble which drives the production and CO2 generation process.

Weapons Of Mass Debt
http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/3324744/wmdebt-graph-3-79k?dn=y

Note Section 2A at the top of the PDF - the Fed engaged in a black letter law criminal operation to blow that bubble.

It is even worse, the entire foundation of the monetary system is a debt based fraud:

Debt Money Tyranny
http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/4768883/debtmoneytyranny-6-1-pdf-60k?dn=y

The establishment will blame the average person for CO2 emissions and the mega banks will support increased taxation on the population... preferably on its way to banker bailouts, of course.

Do not be deceived. The root cause of the CO2 emission bubble is the criminal Debt Money Tyrant credit bubble. It is elementary when the mind is properly directed and engaged.

Also note the anti CO2 establishment doesn't ever mention the CO2 emissions related to financing al Qaeda to destabilize the Middle East or the CO2 emissions of invading countries and setting up a base to produce the trillions in drugs that the military, CIA and mega banking/corporate cartel are distributing across the globe.

The monetary system is a fraud with a method of action exposed in the linked PDF:

http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/4768883/debtmoneytyranny-6-1-pdf-60k?dn=y

The federal Reserve, the Trojan Horse enforcer of the fraud, is a black letter law criminal organinzation as well:

http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/3324744/wmdebt-graph-3-79k?dn=y

Without understanding those two data points - and the fact the entire (Big Finance Capital financed) establishment protects these criminal con artists, one has no chance of understanding the real workings of the reality they inhabit.

Road bikers do it for exercise because they enjoy biking which happens to be the best aerobic exercise. These politicians comments are both idiotic and short sighted. biking generates business, promotes good health which translates to lesser medicare expense, lesser cars on the road for those who choose to drive to work and therefore lesser CO2 emissions. Are we going to tax bikers because they choose a healthy lifestyle? Regarding bike lanes, i don't agree this is the answer. If a biker gets run over then they will start saying it's because the biker is not in the bike lane. i believe the answer is to educate motorists that a bike has the same rights on the road just like a car, it's amazing how many motorists out there don't know this. Regarding the proposed tax, most bikers don't bike because that is their only mode for transportation. Most bikers have multiple vehicles therefore they are already pay for road tax if not more than the average. Leave bikers alone or better yet buy yourself a bike and start exercising, then you might get a better undestanding.

Advocatus Dei said...

This is nonsense.

Bikers inhale toxic gases far more dangerous than CO2 which is a necessary food for plants.

CO2 release by bikers contributes to plant growth that produces oxygen.

The toxic gases inhaled by bikers, especially those who ride paths near roadways, are retained in their bodies until they die and are then recycled - many times directly into the soil where mother nature is glad to be replenished.

Although I am not a biker, I am always pleased to see bikers at work sucking up the dirty air that comes out the rear end of automobiles and leaving the air cleaner for the rest of us.

The globalists have deemed CO2 to be a greenhouse gas in order to eliminate humans from the planet, at least the "other" humans, not themselves.
Plants use this "horrible" CO2 in the photosynthesis cycle, and give off oxygen for us to breathe. Somehow, we humans have been living with CO2 for thousands of years, but the anti-God globalists say it is bad for us.

They cannot raise the gasoline tax which should be paying for the road that big vehicles do the most damage but feel that riding a bike which uses less oxygen than walking should be taxed. Riding a bike is equivalent to getting over 900 miles per gallon. The most efficient mode of transportation including walking. Maybe they should put toll booths on sidewalks for pedestrians at every block to pay for the sidewalks.

It just goes to prove that politicians have no common sense but yet we continue to elect them back to do stupid things like this. Vote them out!!!
