SWAT Raids Home Over Hydroponic Equipment Purchase, Finds Tomatoes and Squash

Contraband worthy of warrantless SWAT raid?
Activist Post

Did you know that buying hydroponic growing equipment is now being used as probable cause for the government to raid your house?

Neither did Bob and Addie Harte, a Kansas couple who were raided by SWAT without a warrant last April because the authorities took notice of their purchase of indoor gardening items.

The illegal raid turned up "just six plants -- three tomato plants, one melon plant and two butternut squash plants -- growing in the basement", and now the couple is suing the sheriff's department.

The Associated Press reports:
Two former CIA employees whose Kansashome was fruitlessly searched for marijuana during a two-state drug sweep claim they were illegally targeted, possibly because they had bought indoor growing supplies to raise vegetables.

Adlynn and Robert Harte sued this week to get more information about why sheriff's deputies searched their home in the upscale Kansas City suburb of Leawood last April 20 as part of Operation Constant Gardener.

It seem peculiar that the couple are former CIA agents.  Perhaps government watches their former employees' purchases more closely?

"With little or no other evidence of any illegal activity, law enforcement officers make the assumption that shoppers at the store are potential marijuana growers, even though the stores are most commonly frequented by backyard gardeners who grow organically or start seedlings indoors," the lawsuit says.

"If this can happen to us and we are educated and have reasonable resources, how does somebody who maybe hasn't led a perfect life supposed to be free in this country?" Adlynn Harte told the Associated Press.

The lawsuit says the Harte children (7 and 13) were traumatized when deputies wearing bullet-proof vests armed with assault rifles pounded on their door.

"It was just like on the cops TV shows," Robert Harte told The Associated Press. "It was like 'Zero Dark Thirty' ready to storm the compound."

"You can't go into people's homes and conduct searches without probable cause," said Harte's attorney Cheryl Pilate.

Here's the other unasked question...WHO "dropped the dime" on them about their purchase in the first place? Does this mean everything we purchase related to growing things on our own is now cause for some kind of Government Agency intervention? Nice...we get this-Monsanto gets a free pass.

In Michigan, the cars that pull into head shops or grow shops are noted by license plate. How did they track the purchase? License plates? Credit Card? Facial recognition and Facebook?

Maybe, if people wake up, they'll realize that the government can do anything the people let them do!

The justification is: I'm sorry, we'll investigate, and we'll toss a few thousand dollar bone ...... And then, they're off to the next illegal act with a clean conscience!

A law is only words on a piece of paper! The interpretation depends on the perceptions of the highest authority presiding at any legal event. Like the rest of the world, we are a nation of perceptions, not of laws!

Those pieces of sh1t are known to sit in parking lots and collect license plate numbers during their fishing expeditions.

I don't grow weed (I start various peppers indoors for spring that take many months to fruit), but this is a common means of LE bankrolling their operations with seizure proceeds. It's trash the 4th Amendment for profit. I've seen it many times over the years and they always bust someone that is growing veggies.

Take precautions like,
1) Use someone elses car
2) Park far away and observe if there is anyone casing the area (more than likely truffle sniffers). Make sure they can't get your plate number (Many ways to do)
3) Use cash and don't leave your name with the store for mail promotions

Remember, once the random taxation agents (LE) screw you, you may as well go file bankruptcy, because they can do no wrong in the eyes of the court... even if they perjure themselves.. NOTHING is ever done because there are two sets of laws. Those who do not realize that fact are woefully naive.

Now their children must live with what they helped to establish, the police state that will continue to traumatize them. All for a sorry paycheck, how very sad indeed.

In the UK, if you buy a new TV set from a store, the store is required by statute to report your name and address to the TV Licensing authority so they can make sure that your address is registered with a TV licence (current cost £145 per annum). The money goes to support the BBC whether you watch their programmes or not.

has anyone stopped to consider that they are EX cia for a reason? perhaps moral ones?
perhaps they think the same as you and that is why they bought the growing equipment to begin with so that they could feed their children REAL food?
perhaps they created this scenario with their own knowledge of the invasive nature of our system.
specifically so it could be seen that innocent people are falling into what was portrayed as a "functional" system.

why not start a wave of civil action based on a concept like this? if everyone started purchasing grow op equipment, everyone who got wrongfully or illegally raided could sue the LE and courts themselves which would put the financial liability for faulty law creation squarely where it should be : on the elected leaders and seated judges.

Law suit? Big deal. This will just come out of their abuse fund that is robbed from the people to start with and it will just continue to be business as usual. What needs to really happen is criminal charges filed against all the nazis who raided this house and all the rest that played their part right up to the magistrate who signed the warrant if there really was one, and the nazi who brought it to the attention without doing his or her home work. Typical adrenalin addicts. They should be charged accordingly and put in jail themselves. Maybe it will wake them up to some reality and common sense, but doubtful.
These drones with guns and badges are the most dangerous element we have in our society today. What used to represent some shred of help and protection now screams with force and violence. Keep up the good work all you drones. The truth is soon at hand world wide. You should know the song, what ya gonna do when they come for you?

Hopefully you will wake up before it's too late. It has been stated that it is next to impossible to show someone the truth when their pay checks depend on them not knowing the truth.
Change is coming and it won't be from the District of Criminals nor all the local empires most call counties.

The media fear machine will soon be no more.

Wow, the illegal raid turned up "just six plants -- three tomato plants, one melon plant and two butternut squash plants.

That raid probably costs the taxpayers about $100,000 of resources and man-hours. For about $10.00 they could have gone to Walmart and bought everything they took!

It's pretty sad when garden vegetables are regarded as, "something to get high with."

Another reason added to the long list headed: Why to Get Rid of the "S.M.A.R.T." Meter. The
device that many utilities are slamming onto homes and businesses, throughout the U.S., is specifically designed to tell the utility and thus "authorities" (and any hacker that gets in to this toxic, wireless system) exactly what you are using, when and how much.
Did these people have this surveillance device on their home?
Many do and have no clue that it is even there, let alone the serious privacy and health issues involved here.
Basically,if your electric meter has a digital readout on it it is unsafe.
The tried and true, No EMF emitting analog meter, with the spinning horizontal disk, has been used for over 50 years and has no health or privacy issues tied to it.
For more info See, and for more info. Also, see you tube for the "the dark side of smart meters" and "darker side of smart meters" videos.

@Robyn Holmes: Good point. I worked as a conceptual artist in the aerospace & defense industry for many years and had occasion to meet a number of CIA employees. The majority are analysts and technicians who sit in cubicles all day; not the "covert assassins" that Hollywood has been painting them as in tandem with a host of James Bond 007/ "licensed to kill" movies for the last fifty years. It is entirely possible that they left that employment based on moral principle.

One has to wonder about the warrantless search though. Did the SWAT team go into this with knowledge beforehand that the target was a pair of former CIA employees? Was this flaw in their search preplanned to give the former CIA employees an escape valve if they turned out to be clean? I think they are justified in filing suit. LE needs to follow the rules to the letter or get a black eye if they don't.
And traumatizing children? Inexcusable.

The CIA is said to be the biggest drug trafficker on the planet (currently operating in Afghanistan and Mexico) so past association with that organization should be probable cause for midnight drug raids by heavily armed law enforcement officers back here in the USSA.

"Who dropped the dime?"

What dime? Everything we do online is tracked. Google made an announcement a month ago that they were going to start tracking our purchases in physical stores. Creepy huh?

It's said that Walmart has face recognition tech in their stores ... so ... it's not a leap to imagine that more than just google are tracking our purchases....

It's not the people that count, but the action. These illegal actions occur against non-ex-CIA agents, too. In this case, them having been CIA agents comes in handy because it shows how ridiculous the actions were even more, and they have the means to sue, which is the only real way to stop this type of crap in this country.

@ Dr Rex Dexter:
I'll tell you who dropped the dime on them....any credit card or debit card or check purchases (checks are now "transformed" into electronic checks for clearing, & processed like credit and debit card purchases) are directly linked to the Federal Govt. now. You can thank the Patriot Act for that, and now everything under Obamacare covers it as well.

I have been buying herbal and alternative medicine products for 30 years. And listen to this: All my purchases were tracked by credit card, and before the internet, by client base when the govt. raided the herbal companies. I have purchased everything from vitamins, to bulk herbs, to essential oils, to ozone generators by mail. The govt. raids these companies to put them out of business because they sell KNOWN cures for diseases. But because the govt. tells us through the FDA that no product can treat or cure a disease except drugs or surgery, anyone who says otherwise will be drummed out of business.

In all the years I have purchased alternative products, I have been "accosted" by the FTC 3 times to "refund" my money from 3 companies I bought perfectly legitimate products from as a method of bankrupting those companies. The FTC sent me letters on 3 occasions telling me to sign a proof of claim to refund my money because the company I purchased from was basically selling snake oil (which they WERE NOT!)

I deliberately filed the proof of claim and donated the money to charity because it would've been taken by the govt. had I not filed. Three companies were put out of business that way that I alone dealt with. One recouped somewhat.

Furthermore, I was sent a letter by Kevin Trudeau stating that I was being considered for 3 days only to join a SECRET SOCIETY because BASED ON THE THINGS I PURCHASED OVER THE YEARS THAT THE POWERS-THAT-BE WERE MONITORING ON ME, it appeared to them that I was the type of individual they wanted in their organization. Get that one!?!?! I searched that one online, and found that other people were also recipients of this type of letter for the same reasons.

They are constantly watching what we buy, and datamining this information for every reason imaginable. I used to work in Healthcare until I walked off the job after a decade of this garbage--ALL ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS BEING REPORTED TO THE GOVT.--just to keep you from getting any kind of insurance, finding you and labeling you "non-compliant", establishing you as a useless eater, etc.

It is all control. No one has to report anyone. The govt. does it through the Patriot Act and through Obamacare and through the NDAA, etc., and anything else Obama passes by executive order in the middle of the night.

The government doesn't want you growing your own food at home either. They want you to buy that GMO poison crap so you die earlier and are violently ill. They were dumping massive chemtrails on home gardeners for decades, and still are. Anyone who is a home gardener is an enemy of the state. They are not assuming you are a pot grower. WTH? They allowed marijuana to be legalized. What's the oxymoron notion in that one? They are kidding nobody. They don't want you feeding yourself because you will grow heirloom, reproduceable fruits and veggies at home, and they want you to eat the sterilized Monsanto and DuPont Frankenfoods!

It isn't as if any rational person still believes the USA is a free country. Think about it. No-warrant wire taps, indefinite detention of citizens without charges, approval of rendition of prisoners and torture, stop and frisk without probable cause, search and seizure without a warrant, no-knock entry, confiscation and destruction of cameras that might have been used to film police acting illegally, police brutality, police shootings that go without investigation, managed news, and the civil-rights destroying "Patriot" Act.

Acts of police behaving illegally, with shootings, Tasers, and unwarranted violence now appear almost daily. Rarely are these offenses punished. Most often "an investigation" is claimed, but soon forgotten.

In addition, the USA, with 5% of the world population, has 25% of all of the prisoners in the world. That means the USA has the most people in prison of any nation in history. Even by percentage of residents incarcerated, not just sheer numbers. USA is # 1!

Does any of that sound like a free country?

As Dwight D. Eisenhower said about communism, "It's like slicing sausage. First they out off a small slice. That isn't worth fighting over. Then they take another small slice that isn't worth fighting over. Then another and another. Finally, all you have left is the string and that isn't worth fighting over, either.
