On Fire for Liberty: Las Vegas Passes Anti-NDAA Resolution

Activist Post

PANDA Nevada (People Against the National Defense Authorization Act) has announced the passage of a Las Vegas City Council Resolution defeating the indefinite detention provisions of the 2012 NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act).

Just before noon on Wednesday, the honorable Las Vegas City Council passed a resolution rebuking the indefinite detention provisions of the 2012 NDAA, 5-2. The resolution may be read here at: The Resolution will now head to the Clark County Commission; if passed, it would be the first Joint City/County Resolution passed in response to the NDAA.

The 2012 National Defense Authorization Act was overwhelmingly passed by Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama on December 31, 2011. The 2012 NDAA declares the United States to be a battlefield in the war on terror and Section 1021 & 1022 authorize the indefinite military detention, without charge or trial, of persons on US soil.

This violates at least 23 Articles of and Amendments to both the US and Nevada Constitutions.

PANDA’s Clark County Chapter Head, Daphne Lee, stated,
I am so incredibly grateful to the honorable Council members for supporting our efforts. I would especially like to thank Councilman Beers for helping me introduce this resolution to the board, and to Mayor Goodman for her amazing vocal support for the rights of all persons in Nevada. This action will support other cities, counties and states all over the country who seek to take a stand to protect constitutional rights.
Christopher Corbett, PANDA Nevada State Team Leader, said, "This is an important first victory in the fight to restore and protect civil liberties in Nevada. Hopefully this resolution will encourage the rest of Nevada to pass similar resolutions and state legislation."

There is already action under way to pass similar Resolutions in Northern Nevada. Both the Washoe County Commission and Reno City Council have agrees to look at this issue in the next 30 days.

State Senator, Don Gustavson, has also submitted a bill to be considered during the 2013 Nevada legislative session. The Nevada Liberty Preservation Act (SB378), which has 16 bi-partisan cosponsors, will lead the way in restoring Constitutional rights to all persons in Nevada.

This movement is just getting started. “We the People” will take back this great nation, one city, county, and state at a time.

I applaud your efforts and the resultant action. In these trying times it will become increasingly difficult for a small group of lovers of liberty to accomplish what you have done. We must all work together to continue these kinds of success all over this land we love. I hope you fighters for liberty will help the rest of America to replace Sen. Harry Reid at his next attempt to gain re-election. To make America as great and promising as it once was all of us MUST work together to start at our local level of politics in our hometowns, counties, states and national levels. God Bless America (again) and those of us that are trying to do our best to make it better than it's ever been. Thank you for your efforts.

I second that. Excellent and critical effort. May every state have the courage and tenacity to fight the indefinite detention for US citizens in the NDAA. Thanks PANDA

As a former 33 year resident of the glowing city in the desert, I can tell anyone on the outside looking in, the NDAA being shackled by the City of Las Vegas is great, but they really need to neuter the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police (Metro) as well. That militant bunch runs amok just like their brothers next door, the LAPD. Not much freedom on those police state cities.

All of the government people who passed NDAA should be charged with treason.

yes this is all well and fine .. and now fix the problem of corruption in the justice system. The corruption in the courts, prosecutors, and the police.

I totally agree with the poster who said that all government critters who passed NDAA should be tried for treason. This includes 99% of members of both Houses of Congress, and, the President, who, after first promising to veto this evil legislation, did a complete turnaround and signed it.

This "law" is totally unconstitutional, and the TRAITORS know it; thus, everyone responsible for this betrayal must be prosecuted, period.

Thanks for posting PANDA Nevada press release!

I sent the following email out this evening.

Good evening! I am sending this email as time is of the essence and we are facing a deadline at the legislature. All bills must pass first committee by 4/12/2013.

If we want to see this bill pass the Nevada Legislature, it must pass The Nevada Senate judiciary Committee first. Emails will not work with him. He doesn't care about emails. We are asking people to contact his office directly by phone, fax or hand delivered hand written letters. I would like his office to hear from us everyday until we get the bill out of his desk drawer and in front of his committee. We really need your help on this one. If you are local to the legislature, a hand written letter will carry the most weight.

SB378 The Nevada Liberty Preservation Act

Talking points:
Please urge Senator Segerblom to bring SB378 up for a vote in committee. Sitting on this bill would be political suicide. His oath of office demands he support, protect and defend the civil liberties of his constituents, above all else. Thirty-one states are working on legislation dealing with the NDAA. Las Vegas City Council, on 3/20/2013, passed an NDAA resolution of non-compliance. What's more important than civil liberties?

Senator Tick Segerblom
775-684-1422 Office
702-385-2909 Fax ( This is 702 area code. I will see if he has a 775 fax #)

Please spread the word. All of our efforts fail if we fail to get this bill through committee.
