White House Raises Petition Threshold from 25K to 100K Signatures

The White House is making it more difficult for groups of citizens to petition the government.

Yesterday, they announced that they're raising the signature threshold for responding to petitions from 25,000 to over 100,000 signatures within 30 days.

Apparently, too many complaints (petitions) are reaching the previous threshold too quickly for them to respond adequately.

The White House writes:
As we’ve seen overall use skyrocket, more petitions are crossing the threshold — and doing so much more quickly.
In the first 10 months of 2012, it took an average of 18 days for a new petition to cross the 25,000-signature threshold. In the last two months of the year, that average time was cut in half to just 9 days, and most petitions that crossed the threshold collected 25,000 signatures within five days of their creation. More than 60 percent of the petitions to cross threshold in all of 2012 did so in the last two months of the year.

The White House called the increase in participation a "good problem" to have.
Turns out that 'good problem' is only getting better, so we're making another adjustment to ensure we’re able to continue to give the most popular ideas the time they deserve.
The White House included a nifty infographic to illustrate the announcement:

Looks like there are some dictators in the white house. Mabey its time to start an alternative goverment run buy the people for the people. I think most people have lost faith in the goverment years ago they are against the people and fore big business at the expence of the people. Just ask your self did they bail out you like they bailled out the banks and other big business. It is the taxpayer who payed for that not the goverment. Did they even ask you if they could bail out these incompentent business or did they just treat you as a cash cow ripe for millking. Ah yes time for a change me think and a real change this time

To petition is to beg.

This is very interesting considering the "Impeach Diane Fienstein..." petition only needed less than 1k more signatures last night when I checked. Surely the presidents men wanted to address that petition and give we the people a response. I was looking forward to reading the official weasle-outta-this-one response from the white house on DiFi over my morning cup of coffee. Instead I get to read about how the White House is being bombarded by petitions and can not seem to hire PR firms fast enough for the damage control. Solution? Raise the threshold on the petitions 400%! Genius! Maybe we should use the same logic to tackle the debt ceiling.

These petitions are meaningless anyway. Why is so much faith put into them?

Indeed...time for a REAL change!

As the gubmint will choose a National security defense as their position on this audit,I for one choose not to divulge to them my information.

What a bunch of Pussies!! obummer et al just don't want to know how Absolutely Pissed Off Americans are, so they quadruple the petition threshold. See no petition, hear no petition, do no response.
Interesting that the signature numbers turned exponential in the fall of last year. Americans are ANGRY !!!

Petitions are useful in a free functional democracy.....they don't work in fascist nations like the USA.

There's going to be a full blown revolution in this country.

People have had enough.

It really is a shame that some clowns made all these joke petitions and it ruined it for legitimate causes such as this one http://wh.gov/PQOH , which could help underwater home owners by eliminating the cutoff date to qualify for the Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP).

There is a problem with this! The Executive office is the wrong place to be petitioning for redress and grievances, the President is not dictator and chief like king George. Try Congress as all Bills must start there.

Ther will never be a second revolution in the USI because people are to fat, dumb and lazy to get off thier arses until it is to late and that will be when they have already put you in a FEMA camp or a coffin.

Holy Cow! They can't take the heat. Besides, it doesn't matter anyway. I have signed many of those petitions, and I got a letter telling me that, basically, my opinion doesn't count, and that's EXACTLY what it said in essence. It's not a tool that they want to use to help us, it's there to be used against us so they will know how and in what way to sabotage our freedoms. it only tells them what to look for and how to word the evil that they do to us.

might as well be a million the people in DC dont give a rats ass what u think.

Petitions are a psyop to make people think they have a voice....like anyone in Washington gives a rat's ass what we think. Grow up.

Seems to me that they are test balloons more than anything. Perhaps a method to gauge the public, and give folks the illusion of making a difference... sort of like the presidential election voting booth.

But I could be wrong. Can anyone point out when one of these petitions actually effected a change?

The people are tired of these GAMES. These Petitions are worthless and a waste of time. The American public is pissed. Mr.Obama you have awoken a sleeping Giant.

84% of all responders to talk radio programs have nevrr written even a postcard to an elected official.
They vent their manipulated rage and must be too tired to let the real culprits know.
THIS obama petition thing lets the fat and lazy think they are participating in government instead of having to get off fat ass and do real thing.
AS one person pointed out it is not the President thet you address with your petitions but those SOB's in the two houses job to read.
God there are a llot of weasely buts who get lost in Obamatron scams.

I agree that these petitions are a waste. Our self appointed royalty has no intention of addressing any grievances. Why would they ? They no longer represent us, they represent the banksters and globalists. This government no longer listens to us, so why should we continue to listen to it ?

You might think petitions ineffective but they are not. Change or not they are a bellwether for opinion that challenges mainstream hypno-news give the ultra elite something new to contemplate.

We need to EN-MASS to these polls online now to show our response of collective power and organization. We HAVE to to bring about our ideals via petition to the powers that be regardless if they heed it or not!~

I also think they are a GAUGE TO SEE HOW THE people of America feel about a certain issue!
I also read that the 300,000 signatures against SOPA, was HIGHLY EFFECTIVE! BUT yes there are more aggressive and effective means! But I'm sure they GET A SCARE when petitions are in the high number's and happen fast! So it still carries some use.
I like watching these Senator's SWEAT, if they stand for gun control,BEING AFRAID THEY WON'T BE REELECTED! ALWAYS remember, they CAN'T RIG AN ELECTION WHEN IT'S AN OVER WHELMING MAJORITY, that is the ONLY power we have in an election! Power in Number's!!

So...we're getting our point across. They are incompetent and we petition to remove their sorry excuse for a rep. It IS time to start an alternative government run buy the people for the people. IF all 50 states petition and remove themselves from the union, we can regroup and form our own gov't, then kick out the dictators and gangs out of OUR country. One anonymous said the petitions are meaningless. That just means the gov't does not represent We The People any longer. Legal, passive ways to get those crooks out of office hasn't worked. It's time for Plan B.
