Cities Across the Nation Demand Gun-Control Legislation

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced that Vice President Joe Biden confirmed that gun control legislation will be passed by the end of January. Menino said: “[Biden] said, ‘Tommy, I guarantee you, we’ll get it done by the end of January.’ They’re going to get it done.”

Invoking the Sandy Hook shooting as justification, Menino said: “I understand the second amendment, the right to bear arms. But I don’t understand how young kids should be able to get guns.” Menino is anxious to have legislation “moving and moving quickly.”

In Rhode Island, Providence City Councilors demanded a resolution to ban the sale, use and possession of semi-automatic guns. Seth Yurdin, Council Majority Leader explained: “Banning semi-automatic firearms is a public safety imperative. We cannot wait for another tragedy, another senseless loss of life, before we act.”

In the Twin Cities, specifically St. Paul, the local city council has requested that lawmakers “crackdown on semi-automatic weapons and high capacity magazines.”

Other requests mirror the national debate:

• Gun ownership restrictions for the mentally ill
• Including terror watch list to federal background checks
• Requiring background checks at gun shows
• Outlawing conversion kits, high-capacity magazines and types of rifles

Vincent Fort, Georgia State Senator has plans to introduce gun-control bills this year on types of rifles and high-capacity magazines.

Governor Bob McDonnell of Virginia is recommending arming teachers in schools, while his opponent in the electoral race, Terry McAuliffe, says that there should be a one handgun purchase limit statewide.

Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania has done an about-face on gun restrictions, now supporting the coming gun bans.

Governor Martin O’Malley of Maryland has legislation in the works that would limit the type of gun that can be purchased in his state; restrict access to the mentally ill; on top of the assault weapons ban already implemented.

Edward Suslovic, city councilor in Portland, Oregon believes that individual states should change the laws so that towns and cities can devise their own statues on gun restrictions. Suslovic and the Public Safety, Health and Human Services Committee will request that there be a bill submitted to empower cities to ban guns from government buildings.

The Maine State Chamber of Commerce is planning to allow guns on college campuses, while already permitting “employees with concealed-weapons permits to leave guns locked in their cars at work.”

Thomas Franklin, member of the Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence is asserting that officials in Washington show the nation that “grief can be turned into action” by not cowering to the National Rifle Association (NRA).

The Nevada Legislature has upheld the rights of the 2nd Amendment by passing NRS 268.418 which restricts lawmakers from stringent gun bans by stating: “No city may infringe upon those rights and powers”; except that cities may “proscribe by ordinance or regulation the unsafe discharge of firearms.”

The other side of this legislation confuses citizens who travel from jurisdiction to jurisdiction that may allow guns in one and not in another. This means that a simple pull-over could turn into an arrest on violation of the specifics of each county’s gun-ban ordinances.

Tim Burgess, Seattle City Council member has brought forward a gun-safety amendment that will seek to ban all rifles and assault weapons in 2013, as well as high-capacity ammunition magazines. Universal background checks along with micro-stamping technology would give the local police departments more accurate tracing when bullets are fired from a gun.

The proposal passed unanimously. Bruce Harrell, another council member, requested a special committee to oversee authority to cities on gun regulations comprised of police, prosecutors, public-health workers and youth advocates.

House Representative Marcy Toepel wants to have laws in place to control “straw purchasers” who buy guns and supply them to criminals, inspired by officer Brad Fox who was killed by a straw-purchased gun.

Does anyone need a better example of the effectiveness of gun control than Chicago? Really...

All the cities should use Chicago's model. It's absolutely perfect to get rid of the problem of guns, right?

I have some friends from the hood who told me the only reason they carry is because the police have guns too. They said they wouldn't have to carry guns if the police could just be disarmed.

Disarm the police and the overpopulation problem will go away too. What lib wouldn't support this?

Bloomberg should have added to his list of "where we kill them (innocent men, women and children)" places like Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Libya, Syria (through aid to rebels), Iran (through sanctions) Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Panama, Grenada, Kosovo, Serbia, Guatemala, American Indian nations, Philippines, Confederate States of America, Germany, Japan.

Please add any I've omitted.

I live in New York City, born and raised there and can tell that despite Bloomberg's so-called gun ban, everyone but me owns a gun.

I can also tell you that if given the opportunity, I would not hesitate to purchase a firearm. It is my Constitutional right and I know enough to know that no gun ban will deter crime.

This is not about movie theaters and schools being shot up. Take a lesson from history, the only reason any government would disarm its people is to enslave them.

Illinois was just shown Gun Control is not the answer. How many times doyou people need to be told to take care of the mentally ill like "YOU USED TO DO??????????????

As I see it, these gun grabbers are the 'domestic enemies' of the Constitution that Law Enforcement and the Military swore to protect us against. They should be removed from office as soon as they introduce a bill that 'infringes' on the right to 'keep and bear arms'.

Are you willing to be a victim.

Many of the anti gun posts are from people who have never been victims have never been subjected to rape or had someone break into their home in the middle of the night or watch a family member murdered by an intruder.

Frankly, those anti gun people are bankrupt and could never be relied upon to defend them self or anyone of their family members.

They are quickly willing to ban and give away the very tools to defend and are so willing to be called victim when you read about them in the morning obits.

I will defend my family and choose not to be a victimized not by the anti gun nuts and not by any assailant.

What fantasy land do you live in?

Fact, the police generally do not arrive until its to late.

I pray that you never face a assailant or a mad man or rapist or someone who attacks you with the intention of killing you, if you did you could not get to the gun store fast enough and would be the first in line to buy a gun if you survived.

Wake up it could be you.

Hi there Ira.

Are you gun nuts trying to protect we the people (your neighbors) from evil government socialists who want to ruin our constitution..........or are you arming to the teeth to shoot we the people, your neighbors?

Guns in a house(foolishly purchased to keep it safe) are often used by family members on each other, with alcohol the primary factor. Medication, marital affairs, drugs and carelessness also contribute to family members shooting each other and eventually painfully regretting it.
Tens of thousands of accidental friend on friend and inter family shootings occur each year with miniscule numbers of heroic save the family shootouts. You KNOW that!
But even a broken clock is right twice a day.......your grim reminder about the police arriving too late is correct, the family member is already dead, and the survivor who did the shooting is probably already in tears. Real world stuff, not the make believe hero shit fed to you by your mass media.

My analysis of Ira.
Your fantasy world about protecting yourself from home invasions is pathetic reactionary behavior undoubtedly caused by too much Hollywood tripe. Go outside, walk around and visit with your neighbors, trust people and be someone that can be trusted to help them.

Anonymous, I've been raped and am now a "gun nut". I carry and own many firearms. Until you or a loved one has been a victim of violent crime, you really have no business running your mouth about "make believe heroes" and the other moronic tripe you're spewing.

Having been in a situation where I desperately needed a gun and didn't have one made me realize that all the "know your neighbors" happy crappy nonsense is just that...NONSENSE. Obviously you have been a product of a safe and prosperous country for too long and have forgotten that there are many people out there who will take what they want by force. I suggest you put up a sign on your house and car that informs everyone that you are gun-free and see how quickly your "trusted neighbors" show up to help themselves to your stuff or worse.

However, if you choose to be a potential victim, that is your choice. You have no right to force me or anyone else to do the same.

It would be different if 9/11 hadn't been a israeli/mossad inside job (google wrhfiveisraelis , 9/11 missing links, missing links israeli involvement in 9/11 ) with so much bolshevik synagogue of satan, dual passport israeli"americans" in charge in America giving up our guns is inviting slaughter. The israeli lubavitchers already have a death penalty to be Christian federal law on the books in America (public law 102-14 see"merry Christmas and off with your head"). The sos bolsheviks slaughtered 20 million to 165 million or more people, mostly Christians in Russia. First they grabbed their guns and made the false charge of "anti-semitism" a death penalty offense. Of those two, one has already been done in America.
