Are Some Members of Congress Waking Up?

December 12, 2012, The Wall Street Journal [WSJ] published “U.S. Terrorism Agency to Tap a Vast Database of Citizens”, which The Washington Post Group’s Slate highlighted December 13th. Apparently these articles captured the attention of two U.S. Congressmen who sit on the same House of Representative committees, Judiciary and Oversight & Government Reform.

Plaudits must go to the Honorable Jason Chaffetz of Utah and the Honorable Trey Gowdy of South Carolina for their December 17, 2012 letter to Attorney General of the United States Eric H Holder, Jr. regarding Holder’s purported granting of new powers to the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) to store dossiers on U.S. citizens who are not suspected of any criminal activity.

So, is that what the National Security Agency’s (NSA) almost $2 Billion, million-plus-square-foot storage center in Bluffdale, Utah, is all about?

In their letter to AG Holder, the Congressmen say,
The WSJ goes on to report the new rules allow the NCTC to keep data about innocent United States citizens for up to five years and to analyze it for suspicious patterns of behavior. Previously, both were prohibited.
Furthermore, they express,
…we are concerned such sweeping, fundamental changes would be made to existing policy without public input and Congressional approval.

And they ask AG Holder four very specific questions, each of which has a few sub-questions, which they request to be answered by 5PM January 31, 2013.  The prime questions query:

  1. Does the Justice Department believe the NCTC, or any other government agency, has the power/legal authority to keep data about citizens who are not suspected of a crime?
  2. Does the Justice Department believe the NCTC, or any other government agency, has the power/legal authority to analyze government databases for suspicious patterns of behavior?
  3. Does the Justice Department believe it has the power to change the rules governing who NCTC has the power/legal authority to store data on and how data may be used without approval from Congress?
  4. The Privacy Act of 1974 bars the federal government from sharing data for any purpose other than the reason for which the data was initially collected, unless the sharing meets a specific exception contained in the Act.
One has to wonder whether AG Holder will answer the Congressmen’s letter in view of the fact that President Obama granted Holder executive privilege over “Fast and Furious” documents, and Holder may expect the same ‘perk’ about his granting new powers to the NCTC.  If that would be the case, and Holder refuses to answer, invoking executive privilege, perhaps, it’s time to consider impeachment proceedings against both the president and the attorney general, who are not above the law of the land nor the U.S. Constitution.

Furthermore, members of Congress ought to look into all the Presidential Executive Orders (PEOs) that seemingly grant one-man-rule to presidents.  PEOs are not granted to presidents under the U.S. Constitution nor within the supposed “checks and balances” system under which the United States government is supposed to operate. PEOs should be prohibited from being issued by presidents as they, in essence, grant dictatorial powers to a one-man rule regime, which presidents have gifted themselves with that privilege!  If some members of Congress don’t like what’s happened with the NCTC new powers, boy will they get a surprise when PEOs are invoked and kick in!

In addition to the two Congressmen’s apparent dismay about what’s going on in the granting of new or special powers to government agencies without congressional and public input, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) issued a Factsheet addressing their concerns about what’s going on with
The new NCTC Guidelines sweeping away decades-long protections by allowing the military and intelligence agencies to target innocent Americans for collection.
The ACLU in its Factsheet made a statement I think every American citizen can support:

It’s wrong to let NCTC treat Americans as potential terrorists without evidence
and without oversight.  Holding private information about innocent people in
intelligence databases for five years without any suspicion of wrongdoing creates
an unacceptable risk to Americans’ privacy through error or abuse.

Citizens have to know about and applaud what Congressmen Chaffetz and Gowdy and the ACLU have said and done.  Finally, someone is paying attention to congressional oversight!  However, I wonder what they would have to say about the following issues that no one seems to be taking seriously, and which I hope The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post or Slate will investigate and blow wide open:

§  The “Voice of God” mind control program run by the CIA
§  The alleged release of what’s been called the “Katrina virus”
§  Chemtrails in the sky, weather control and geoengineering
§  HAARP and its role in geoengineering and possible earthquakes

If you agree with the two members of Congress, may I suggest that you contact your members of Congress and ask that they follow suit and do their job of oversight.

Let's hope the good Congressman stays out of small aircraft.

Yeah...the Congressmen are seeing the light! We are soon to be saved. There is hope. Our leaders have had a change of heart.

Do you really believe that crap? Are you still willing to put your faith and trust behind one of these criminals?

This author is either a shill or entering her early stages of dementia. Why would I ask my Congressman anything? Why would I waste my time? What have they ever done for you and I? Name one thing.

Yeah, the author sounds like a professional with the "advanced" degree in nutrition (whatever that means...just tells us where she completed her Ph.D. and link us to her dissertation) and provide us a list of peer-reviewed papers she has written. I'm sure she's more than qualified to speak on the subject at hand.\
She's hardly published in any peer-reviewed journals that deal with medicine, molecular biology and the like. She's a speculator and business lady who relies largely on blogs to print her conjecture.( She is NOT in the medical community trying to convince actual medical experts on the issues. Why would that be you ask?

She has no verifiable credentials that I can see. She's not an MD, a toxicologist, a pathologist or anything close.

My suggestion is to stop taking advice from those that have made a career through cheap standards. Just my two cents. Just tired of this crap being thrown up likes its gospel from unknown and unverifiable experts.

Get a clue folks. Everyone is in business for themselves. If they were truly there to help you, would they be charging you for their opinions and speculations?

"Are Some Members of Congress Waking Up?"

Some perhaps. But, there's way too many Congressmen that seem to be inclined or even eager for the path trajectory.

There is no privacy in this nation. Its a dead concept! As for politicians and the media, I don't trust them. Washington and Wall Street care about one thing, MONEY! They love MONEY, and if you haven't figured it out yet, THE LOVE OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL, just as Jesus Christ said!

In a nation where there is supposed to be freedom of speech why is it neccessary for comments to be approved? In my comment I used no vulgarity, nor slang, nor anything that isn't true!

I wouldn't bet a penny on it!

Our system has been infiltrated by people from other countries that don't have good intentions for the future of the USA. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Barack Husain Obama isn't one of us.......big surprise there! Maybe the name was a clue? Or his fake birth certificate? This is rediculous, I'm a 7th generation American and I can't get a pack of cigarettes without getting my identity screened, how the F is this man in the white house? How are we blindly letting this imposter destroy our constitution and threaten to take our guns away? Why is this man making the decisions for our children's futures?

Yea right, just like they woke up to the GSA,TSA,fast and furious and last but not least the murder of U.S ambassador Stevens. All this out in the open and none seems to be accountable. What a superb job these treasonous traitors are doing

My fellow Americans, nobody will awake with being shaked. We have to shake the whole coutry. It's more important than eating.

To Anon 9:28pm - The reason he is in the white house is because the voting process is totally fraudulent. Also, it wouldn't have mattered if "their" other choice, Romney, was installed in that position, he says he believes in and supports everything Obama has already done. It is all totally rigged. All I can say is people need to quit arguing about the election and that people voted for this guy or that guy, it doesn't matter it is all rigged, VOTE FRAUD. You better prepare to figure out how to resist tyranny, it is coming.

They were asleep? I thought they just never showed up.
They weren't around when the law passed that can permanently imprison or detain US citizens.
They weren't around when obamycare passed against the majority of the people.
They weren't around when illegals became eligible for free healthcare, social security, welfare and even voting.
They weren't around when obamy passed all those illegal executive orders.
They weren't around when the fake wars were declared.
In fact, I figured they all quit and retired!

But now- they are concerned about this database? Why? Are they just protecting a self interest?
Bet so, cause they sure don't care about the people- that should be obvious!

I have no faith in the spineless creatures who call themselves Americans. We are SCREWED

Our Congressmen and senators think that as long as they are in office and able to grant favors to the powers that be that they are safe! Just wait until one or two of them screw up and it becomes clear that they are expendable!

Has anyone noticed that it is impossible to read certain articles because you have a page of coupons you MUST accept! Who are these assholes that think they can force us to accept coupons? Dam them! I will NEVER use products shoved down my throat!

The heros are here to save us,,,, and Santa left us some gifts under the tree.
What I find that is getting old is the concern of the chief executive being some other foreign national, by focusing on his middle name. You should be concerned with the foreign entanglements connected to his first name, and his mothers background. He reeks of another Adam Pearlman pretending to be other than what he is. Have any of you noticed the spokesmen for the boogyman are converts from the opposition? DrMeatwadPhD can see the clews.

Pretty sure all of Washington has been sold out a long time ago. think of it like a little Rome.
There not calling the shots.

Obama and Holder both need to be removed from their respective offices. They are the true danger to America.
Obama's Marxist leanings along with Holder's racist ideology...don't forget he was a member of a group in college closely allied with the Black Panthers, and deeply involved with Operations Fast and Furious, is obviously out to destroy America.
Holder needs to be removed and investigated and if needed thrown in jail. Obama needs to be impeached and removed.
America no longer exists. It is now under the control of the corporate welfare police state.
Any one of us is now a target in the eyes of Obomber. How soon before a drone strike occurs in your neighborhood? Or are you now on the DHS Terrorists threat list?
James Madison was correct:"When tyranny comes to America, it will come in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."

Yeah Obama and Holder are criminals alright. After the filthy criminal and traitor George W Bush and his introduction of;

Domestic spying on Americans
Bailouts to Wall streetbankster scum (his friends)
Patriot Act
TSA gone wild
and of course his biggest crime.......911

People thought Obama would change things. Problem is, Obama works for the same bosses as Bush did, and serves them with equal devotion.
Actually, the real problem is the fact that Bush lovers are too dumb to see their man is just like Obama.........and of course the Obama hoards are too arrogant to believe their man is a filthy criminal just like Bush.
Ignorance and stupidity keep the American people down. Guns will not solve this problem.

Anonymous said...

guns may ultimately be the only solution. Scotus has been silent on NDAA and it is their ultimate responsibility to defend the constitution. Everybody is so worried about the second amendment that they seem to be ignoring the voiding of the fourth, fifth, and sixth amendment by all three branches of government.

If you think our problems started with Obama, you have not been paying attention for very long.

Anonymous said...

This nation's problems, of course, did not start with Obama. Bush '43 had 9/11, the Iraq and Afghanistan (ongoing) wars, the Great Recession, etc.; Clinton had the Balkan wars; we could go all the way back to John Adams, our 2nd President, with the Alien and Sedition Act.

However, Bush '43 and Obama just about top the list of our worst. Obama's 2008 campaign promises were lies; he had no intentions of obeying the Constitution, just as Bush didn't. However, both the Legislative and Judicial Branches must share much of the blame as well. The legislators hardly read the legislation presented to them; and, that's their job.

Good lord. My first thought was of Gary Carradori. Those demons in human flesh killed him and his 8 yr old little boy. :(
