Anti-GMO Consumers Won't Forgive Cheerios - Cheerios Finally Responds

Cheerios patronizes consumers with a section for "robust conversation"

It's been over a week since Cheerios had to remove a Pinterest App that actually exposed them for containing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO), being pro-GMO and for *General Mills' funding over $1 million to "No on Proposition 37." Consumers are still slamming Cheerios' Facebook page in their "Recent Posts by Others" section. Actually, thousands of angry comments are now visible on the "face" of their page as well their other sections for comments.

But that's not all - when Cheerios posted a retro commercial called "Grandma's Visit" it was immediately slammed and removed from their Facebook videos. Consumers followed the vid to YouTube and commented on Cheerios' YouTube page. More than 1200 users left negative comments on the Facebook vid before its removal saying things like “Nostalgic old commercials are no substitute for healthy ingredients. I won't buy Cheerios until they are GMO-free.”

We know that they got the message - they haven't posted on their Facebook page in over a week. Cheerios finally responded by patronizing consumers and carving out a special comment section for "robust conversation".  So, they aren't backing down from their stance supporting GMO ingredients and their promotion.

New section for angry comments - Wow, Cheerios really understands me!

YouTube Vid & Top Comments
The heart of the matter surrounds consumer rage over big food companies' deceptive health marketing, meanwhile, actively funding efforts to stop the labeling of GM foods - the paying consumers' desire for greater transparency. It's like someone smiling while flipping you the bird behind the back - or taking your money and watching you poison yourself. Profits over principles - and consumers won't forgive this time.

Alisa Gravitz, CEO and president of Green America said:
The sheer volume of comments on Cheerios' Facebook page raising concerns around genetically engineered ingredients is incredibly inspiring.
GMO Inisde is credited with first stoking the comment-bomb. They also posted this vid by cerealfacts.org showing just how much genetically modified sugar is added when choosing Honey Nut Cheerios:

But some commenters still ask whether Cheerios themselves contained GMOs - mega YES.

Regular Cheerios contain modified corn starch and sugar - most likely made from GM sugar beets. Other flavors contain corn syrup, corn, corn bran and canola oil - over 90% chance of GMO contamination there.

Guess what else they contain among other harmful substances? Trisodium phosphate - a common and strong cleaning agent. Also a stain remover, degreaser and food additive considered by the FDA as GRAS (generally recognized as safe).

This article by natural nutritionist Evita Ochel goes into major health deficits of Cheerios. She was irked by constantly hearing her clients' wishes to continue eating Cheerios because they believed the commercials and box covers claiming to be heart healthy. She had advised ditching all processed cereals.

She demonstrates why they're not whole grain, they're not good for the heart. She shines light on deceptive marketing - whole grain and heart medical councils will gladly take money to "approve" processed cereals and in turn the FDA looks away, but calls natural walnuts a drug.

Comedian Mike Birbiglia is popular for saying,
I think maybe the key to eating healthy is not eating any food that has a TV commercial.
If you ever find yourself burdened with uneaten Cheerios, consider using them for an age-old purpose - potty training.

*General Mills also owns organic sub-companies: Muir Glen Organic, Cascadian Farm Organic, & LARABAR

WE'RE LISTENING..........and if we hear shit we don't like....WE'RE CENSORING.

Me, I eat oatmeal. Organic steel cut oats.
The cheapest, the tastiest and the healthiest breakfast known to man. It costs 15 minutes of your time, and is the best change you can make in adopting good eating habits.

There's money in sickness and death and old people cost money. Eat Cheerios until you die. Your lifespan should be only as long as you are able to work ... slave.

Stop listening, and just go away, General Mills.

What the first anon fails to grasp, the labels would provide a market tried and true measure of "enabling the consumer decide" and with the label you would get 'No Sale'. Then the market would phase them out to get back the sales.

All this and we are to believe that the people of CA. did not accumulate enough votes to beat prop 37 and that Obama won through a fair and honest election. Fraud is everywhere

Amen to that!

It might be time to listen to the people who used to buy your products. We DON'T want GMOs. Nobody can convince us that they're safe. It takes years for studies and by the time they figure out they aren't, it will be too late. Consumers are finally waking up and not trusting what's in our grocery stores anymore!

I'm dumping all my General Mills cereals out and removing them from my shopping list.

GMO is poison, and nobody wants them. People will eventually figure which foods are GMO and which are not. The Non GMO foods will sell like crazy, and the GMO will just fade away. I know this to be the case in S. California to a certain extent. The true organic foods are selling better than ever. The organic market is seriously blowing up. Raw Milk consumption is rising geometrically on a graph, and it's only going up. Because once people try it, they will never go back to pasturized milk. I know that after I first tried Raw Milk, I never again have drank even 1 sip of pasturized/homoginized, corn fed, hormone containing mainstream milk. It's garbage. I don't even eat conventional wheat anymore, because it's all modified (back in the 60's, using harsh chemicals to cause genetic mutations that were then selected, promoted, combined with other chemically induced genetic mutations, our agro chemical industry created our "modern" wheat, which grows only 18 inches tall, as opposed to truly natural wheat, which is much, much taller. I eat Komut, which is ancient Egyptian strain of wheat, which grows 5 to 6 feet tall!

@5:43 PM, did you read the referenced article at all? If you did, why would you make such a comment? Do you work for Monsanto?

It's not about "food' for companies like Gen Mills, Monsanto, agribusinesses, etc. it is just about profits. They have sold out humanity for a buck. To them we are just bio-machines that will run on crap for the proscribed length of time and quickly terminate when our "productive" lifespan has elapsed. Corporate planning 101.

Great Post and good comments too! The lashing is a day late and a dollar short but at least peeps are waking up just in time for their coming illnesses from years of poisoning. Maybe they'll learn some natural holistic remedies prior to big pharma. I hope.

I don't buy GM, Kelloggs, Kashi... They're all junk.

Oh wow, this article makes me feel so good. Finally people are 'waking up and getting this!". For years I felt angry and depressed about the ignorance of society and admit I haven't done too much in helping to bring more awareness to the world. But now more people are waking up and they're not shy or quiet like me, they're speaking out and making a difference.

1200 people behind their keyboards typing, sure that bothers their facebook page. but how many hundreds of thousands of glazed over idiots are stumbling into walmart and stuffing their carts with cheerios?

Anonymous said...

Do yourself a favor and stay away from all processed cereal in boxes. They are either poisoned, GMO'ed, stripped of nutrition or all of the above. There are many other healthy alternatives like fruit, nuts, salad, smoothies and baked items that you can make from scratch using organic grains and other ingredients. You will see as I did what a difference it will make in your health and vitality.

Glad I don't eat that crap!

Aww, do you need to lower your cholesterol? Well heres a bowl of Cheerios. You can lower your cholesterol and tamper with your genetics at the same time. Cheers! To slowly getting cancer in support of diabetics with uncontrollable cholesterol levels!

Thanks for all your great comments guys. Unfortunately we can't control what goes into a Google ad, it's different for every reader, maybe their algorithm will finally catch up to what we're actually saying - HA. Peace, Heather Callaghan
