Cannabis is becoming widely recognized for its diverse medical uses, and the trend toward marijuana legalization is clearly on the rise. But someone forgot to tell the Obama administration.
Despite Obama's 2008 sympathetic campaign rhetoric that he would honor states rights and protect medical marijuana patients, he continues to crackdown on legal medical pot.
This time the Feds are going after the world's largest medical cannabis dispensary, which is bound to infuriate marijuana advocates.
Reuters reported today:
Federal prosecutors have filed civil forfeiture actions against an Oakland medical marijuana dispensary that bills itself as the world's largest, as part of a crackdown by U.S. authorities on California's massive cannabis trade.
The lawsuits, filed on Monday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, seek forfeiture of two properties where Harborside Health Center operates, said Melinda Haag, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of California.This is not the first time the Feds have tried to destroy Harborside using backdoor technicalities in lieu of overt SWAT raids.
The Harborside Health Center has also been targeted by the IRS. Although Harborside has gone above and beyond to report all income, they were slapped with a $2.5 million tax bill and denied the right to claim any legitimate business expenses. To make matters worse, Harborside was also hit with abusive local taxes that were raised 4000% and had to be prepaid in advance.

The Feds announced last year that they would go after property owners who rent to lawful medical marijuana shops. This new property forfeiture (confiscation) case is the first high-profile case of this type.
It's just one of the covert tactics Obama is using to intimidate and attack legalized medical cannabis.
Multiple polls show that over 75% of Americans support legalizing medical pot with over half the population supporting outright legalization. Seventeen states and the District of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana, while fifteen states have decriminalized personal possession.
Around the world other nations are finally beginning to see the folly of prosecuting cannabis crimes. Colombia and Uruguay are leading full-scale legalization efforts in Latin America.
Obama and the Feds are clearly on the wrong side of history and risk facing universal ridicule for their continued war against marijuana.

the more people look into this they will find the exploiting of zoning laws, and the exploiting of the IRS. That tells me the officials (city council) and the banks (banksters arguably) are in charge. The whole thing just doesn't make sense anymore unless you look to see who is behind it. Who makes the DOJ decisions? Somebody is causing the problems in the USA. WHO?

I've been a member of NORML since 1966 and continue my membership today. In spite of the fact that I work for decriminalization and legalization, I do NOT agree with Dispensaries that make millions of dollars/yr.. Using our efforts under the guise of Medicinal Marijuana doesn't cut it. Take them down - either the State of CA calling in the Feds or the Feds, themselves. It's a CRIME and we don't need this crap anymore!!
If they would just pass me some weed I'd be about 75% more likely to roll over and let them go on with their evil plans. GEEZE the governments of the world are stupid!

The problem is simple, as the 1966 member so eloquently put it (and made me see a brighter shade of light) - let's shut down the dispensaries. Currently 66% of our nation is openly rebelling against the government in this regard. If the six states up for legalization come this November, then 78% of our nation will be in outright rebellion. The problem at hand is the black market activity between Mexico and Canada happening on US soil - mainly CA, WA and TX. Not to mention all my friends who drive out to Denver or have their stock Fed Ex'ed in a jar of coffee beans from their contact in CA. This makes its way into my home by passing through three "middle men". It's easier for the underaged to get pot than beer. Gotta give them some credit for making a wiser decision than consuming alcohol. Let it all burn down. It's time to rebuilt. The momentum will take care of itself. Is it just me or is this whole planet going to hell in a handbasket? I will remain an optimist.

Does anybody GET that? there wouldnt be anymore black market. there was a recent study that PROVED that marijuana is NOT the gateway drug into other drugs, the fact is it is ALCOHOL, which has been legal for decades. there have been more problems with alcohol then there has ever been with marijuana. there is not ONE documented instance of death, murder, traffic violation, beating, NOTHING from marijuana, although there are plenty for alcohol and other drugs. Marijuana has been so propagandanized that most people have no clue what they are talking about anymore. Yeah, keep on with your sheeple minds and follow the leader.... I just read an article dated 2011 that states Michell Obama planted medical marijuana in her herb garden at the White House. Tell me WHY it's OK for her to grow it (not for medicinal use)but illegal for anyone who supplies it as a medicine??

Don't you all get it by now? It's OVER people, it is OVER. We are doing exactly what they want to this day on this very site. And that is, to keep "discussing",arguing, debating, etc. ad nauseum. The oldest trick in the book, DIVERSION. If we are all looking up at the sky but, the real issue is below at our feet and only one side knows this, who will win? They will of course. We will never be the same again as a country or as a people living on planet Earth. By our indifference, we have allowed them to control our money, employment, racial issues, and so forth. I've seen much good come from medicinal marijuana. I could give plenty of examples, but most people reading this already know the good that this God given herb is.
It's a control and money issue with the Fed. Probably, if Obama got a cut out of the profits, he'd be a happy camper.
Suppose if it was a green energy scam he was helping out one of his cronies with, it would be all good.
This is (mostly) about marijuana cutting into BigPharma profits. From the information posted on the ProCon site there are 577,712 medical marijuana patients. The average cost of Marinol (Unimed Pharmaceuticals) is $8258 per year. That's almost $50 million per year that BigPharma is losing!! And that's just from the users who are registered. A US Attorney said they needed to do this because "...the greater the likelihood that there will be abuse of the state’s medical marijuana laws, and marijuana in the hands of individuals who do not have a demonstrated medical need." So, how diligent is BigBrother with tracking down the "legal" pharmaceutical narcotic abusers and keeping drugs out of their hands? (Yeah, right.) FOLLOW THE MONEY....!!
