An epidemic of police brutality and outright crazy behavior from law enforcement was illustrated once again, as an executive officer of the Minneapolis SWAT team "Superman punched" Brian Vander Lee for talking too loud on his cell phone while standing on the patio of a restaurant.
The account given by Brian Vander Lee's friend in the video below perfectly captures the disbelief when those who are sworn to protect the public become predators. An interesting background note is mentioned about the assailant, Sgt. David Clifford, in the Raw Story article about the incident:
An online biography indicated that Clifford had served with the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division as team leader of Personal Security Detachments in Kosovo and Iraq.While it would be unfair to definitively conclude that Clifford's training and experience might have desensitized him to acts of extreme violence, it is a footnote that should give pause as police throughout the country continue on a militarized path, with many local law enforcement agencies hiring those who have spent time in dangerous theaters of war.
Brian Vander Lee's family can receive benefit donations at any TCF Bank location for those who can lend their support to help cover costs for this outrageous and tragic incident that caused this father of four to spend Father's Day in intensive care.
Update: good news is being reported by MyFox9.com: Brian is responding to commands and can wiggle his fingers and toes. Meanwhile, Sgt. David Clifford has officially been charged with 3rd degree assault. Do you believe this is a fitting charge for the crime? Feel free to comment below.

The American Pig Rampage, which started when Blackwater babykillers were turned into "police" during Hurricane Katrina has festered for too long. There is such a thing as law enforcement professionals, it's just sad that all we hear about these days are brutal pigs and thugs with badges.

The "Praetorian" caste in the US has been growing and trying to take over society. The state has generated a subculture of bred killers, largely to protect the resources of the very rich. ReplyDeleteI have seen unbelievable (unbelievable for those who have swallowed the TV propaganda about cops being brave heroes) police brutality and people arrested on false charges or planted evidence.
However, if you so much as touch a cop you get an extra-long prison sentence with extra horrible treatment for assaulting the cop...Why is it more of crime when a cop gets touched than when a citizen gets brutalized!?!

The aggressive nature that has been promoted since the war on drugs especially with the increased SWAT divisions is un-nerving. Also just as un-nerving is the increased militarization of law enforcement.
In NJ for example - veterans preference is given to those who have had active duty. So much of the law enforcement has had agressive military combat training and war experience. So, over the last decade- some departments have only replaced the ranks with veterans because of the wars and many civilians do not have much a chance unless they go the military route.
This is not ideal for Serving, protecting, the public with keeping the peace-- once called 'Peace officers'. Unfortunately, the more the aggression, the more the resistance. The war on drugs has only been evidence of that over the last 30 years.
This incident is not surprising and I think will become more of an issue as soon entire police departments be veterans with war experience. PTSD is going to be going through the roof in about decade.
We live here in MN and just saw the local news blurb about the attack. Not only was his SWAT affiliation not mentioned, the cops in this area are rallying around the guy as a "model officer" with several medals of valor for his "dedicated service to the community." The piece did state that the cop fled the scene after attacking the poor guy.

He comes up all rude and screams I STOPPED YOU FOR SPEEDING YOU WERE GOING 51 miles an hour!
I was shocked and blurted out there is NO WAY I was goin 51! I want to know how you can say that.
He was angry that I already had my license and insurnace out he snatched the license and threw my insiurance card back to me.
He issues me a $154 speeding ticket when he was OUT OF JURSIDICTION AND THE CLINCHER....
He forgets to sign the ticket!!! The ticket is NOW materialy defective as a charging citation/affidavit and the cop did NOT want to place himself under perjury cause he sure as hell knew when he flipped that car that he was heading into West Richland he did not even put the exact location he saw me at city block cause that too will prove the ticket to be invalid as he could only stop me if he was in fresh pursuit or had knowledge I had commited a felony at least here in washington state that is the RCW 10.31 100 .......................

That will never happen in Amerika. If it were going to happen it would have long ago. Cops have been crushing, beating, raping, fondling, robbing, sodomizing, torturing, extorting, blackmailing and humiliating the population for well over 90 years. Citizens stand idly by and watch the entertainment while cops abuse old ladies, the handicapped and kids.
Citizens standby and watch their own mothers and wives get a gloved finger shoved up their vagina at the airport. They watch their own little children cry as the gloved hand reaches inside the kids underwear. The gloves don’t get changed, so the same gloved finger inserted up was also inserted up dozens of others. Wonderful for your health.
All we get is a few armchair idiots who post old phrases like “yous peoples better wake-up”. They got yous peoples trapped, wake-up.” Yep that will sure do it! That’s the extent of citizen response.

ReplyDeleteStreet thug or government thug, both are dangerous. But the government thug is absolutely 10 times more dangerous due to their ability to act with impunity. A street thug you can protect yourself from, but the law provides penalties and possibly death if you even attempt to protect yourself from this sort of psychopath. I’ve stressed situational awareness to my family for years but I now worry that the most dangerous encounter any of us may have is with one of these professionals.

You're an off-duty cop, having dinner with the wife and kids, and some jerk gets a cell phone call from his ex-wife/girlfriend/lover, who brings up a sensitive issue. The guy on the cell starts getting upset, and using foul language in the restaurant. Several people ask him to "take it outside". He does. But the argument the guy is having escalates and now he is shouting overt profanities (you know the ones) so you, (off duty cop) go out to tell him to knock it off-- that there are women and children within earshot, and the guy on the phone tells you to suck his you-know-what and f*** off. So you deck him. Sound plausible? Cause under the same circumstances the cop might have been me!

There are also several different definitions for First Degree Assault. A Defendant will be convicted if a jury is convinced that any one of the following definitions has been proven by the District Attorney:
The Defendant intended to cause serious injury, and does in fact cause serious injury.
The Defendant intended to, and in fact did, seriously disfigure or disable another person.
The Defendant, acting with "extreme indifference to the value of human life," knowingly created a grave risk of death, and by doing so caused serious bodily injury.
The Defendant threatened a police officer, firefighter, judge, or prison staff with a deadly weapon, and in doing so caused serious injury.
I now consider that a lot of police departments are renegade.not observing federal guide lines.there needs to be more accountabilty.

Telling your children to go to a policeperson reminds me of 1st grade when I told my child to go to teacher if someone bothers you. Well... I then told him afterwards, knock the kid as hard as you can, then go to teacher. Germany? How can the government tell me to wear a seatbelt? Police? They never talk to you unless they think your doing something wrong or have an out of state license plate.
ReplyDeleteJust because you could get away with it doesn't make it right- the chance of physical harm is too great to justify smacking even an a**hole. You don't know what is up with that person, if it is just talk and no physical threats, it is assault. Police should be held to a higher standard of conduct, and not so flippant of the power they hold over people's lives.

Why so mean?
It has to be harsh for an oath breaker. If nobody obeys the law in an official capacity, nobody will obey the laws in a public capacity, where officials will be fair game.
These police officers are taking to many steriods. Steriods has made these officers ticking time bombs. PO on steriods with guns, tasers and authority. These same PO's are killing people for minor traffic violations or for nothing at all because of Steriods. Steroids effects the reasoning skills and causes over agressive behavior.

We went so far as to read the entire State's Civil Code. They are reffered to as "Law Enforcement Officers", NOT protectors of citizens.

My deepest sympathy for the victim and his family concerning the brutal and illegal beating of this monster in blue. This is happening way too many times and it's only gonna get worse, I promise you! If this officer was off duty, the fact that he would attack a civilian outside a
ReplyDeleterestaurant makes this assault outside his job discription and non work related. If he was on duty, then the department can be sued for negligent hiring as well as under the theory of "respondent superior"- the boss is liable for the actions of the em'ee.
Most states have protections of personal assets preventing recovery under state law.The only way the victim can collect is against non exempt property.

He should be charged with assault with a deadly weapon. All parts of a trained killers body are deadly weapons, and this is a trained killer. He should get the same treatment as any civ would.
ReplyDeleteThis disproportionate response indicates something going on with the officer - such as PTSD or drugs - something that caused him to lose control. This makes him dangerous both in and out of uniform. I would not want him to have my back.
Cops should stop with the closing ranks to protect bad apples. The bad apples have to be removed, just as in any profession.
personality type (authoritarian)... cops enjoy their authority they will tell you they love their job. They are endless thanked by the community for their services. Thought of as almost clergy, attending every Sunday and never a foul word parts their lips. Reality...nothing can be further from the truth. These guys are the bullies from HS, the guys who love guns They enjoy beating people up that don't respect their "Authority". They think of them selves as the "Authority" in anyplace they go on or off duty. They are tested so not to be smart enough to question their orders. ReplyDeleteWe need "Peace officers" that work for the public as they used to. We need them to get the real criminals off of the streets and neighborhoods. We need them to keep the peace and serve us as the intent is suppose to be.

But we don't need the "Police FORCE" making criminals out of people who make little mistakes, who are human, who are in need of help, who demand their born rights as described in the law (The Constitution). We don't need a gang of officers given authority over the law.
Bands of fed up people will start to retaliate one day and put a price on officers heads if they don't start tuning it down- and I hope that never happens, but when people are trapped in a no win hopeless situation- it probably will.
Police need to live in the community they police! Where I live they live in safe about zero crime Ventura County and police in low income minority neighborhoods in LA where they really hate the people there. They live to kick ass on ALL the people in those neighborhoods, to the cops they all are criminals who live there. Rehab some gang members. They would serve the community better with that paycheck that outsiders who are just there to get their kicks.

I determined a long time ago that I have no government because if I did I would have a place to file criminal complaints and maybe some sense of justice.
ReplyDeleteWhen the cops can encircle you, run off all witnesses, and then one cop pulls out a gun from the trunk of a car in which your wife is sitting, just to say "we can kill you anytime we want to, and get away with it", then you will know where I have been.
It is not just the cops; it is the whole entire system.

Its a shame when my 7 year old daughter thinks "police are bad", and no, I NEVER taught or told her that! But the sad part is a huge chunk of them are! I guess that's just the way it is now, the cost of talking on your phone loud is 2 brain surgeries and a coma! Un-freakin real!! I hope that family gets the compensation they deserve and he pulls through! And I definitely hope that "peace" officer really gets what he deserves!!
