Monsanto’s GMO Seeds Contributing to Farmer Suicides Every 30 Minutes

In what has been called the single largest wave of recorded suicides in human history, Indian farmers are now killing themselves in record numbers. It has been extensively reported, even in mainstream news, but nothing has been done about the issue.

The cause? Monsanto’s cost-inflated and ineffective seeds have been driving farmers to suicide, and is considered to be one of the largest — if not the largest — cause of the quarter of a million farmer suicides over the past 16 years.

According to the most recent figures (provided by the New York University School of Law), 17,638 Indian farmers committed suicide in 2009 — about one death every 30 minutes. In 2008, the Daily Mail labeled the continual and disturbing suicide spree as ‘The GM (genetically modified) Genocide’.

Due to failing harvests and inflated prices that bankrupt the poor farmers, struggling Indian farmers began to kill themselves. Oftentimes, they would commit the act by drinking the very same insecticide that Monsanto supplied them with — a gruesome testament to the extent in which Monsanto has wrecked the lives of independent and traditional farmers.

To further add backing to the tragedy, the rate of Indian farmer suicides massively increased since the introduction of Monsanto’s Bt cotton in 2002. It is no wonder that a large percentage of farmers who take their own lives are cotton farmers; the demographic that is thought to be among the most impacted.

Dr. Mercola, an osteopathic doctor that has been educating the world about natural health for many years, recently saw the destruction of traditional Indian farmers first hand. Dr. Mercola found out about the notorious ‘suicide belt’ of India, where 4,238 farmer suicides took place in 2007 alone.

Many families are now ruined thanks to the mass suicides, and are left to economic ruin and must struggle to fight off starvation:
‘We are ruined now,’ said one dead man’s 38-year-old wife. ‘We bought 100 grams of BT Cotton. Our crop failed twice. My husband had become depressed. He went out to his field, lay down in the cotton and swallowed insecticide.’
In India, around 60 percent of the population (currently standing at 1.1 billion) are directly or indirectly reliant on agriculture. Monsanto’s intrusion into India’s traditional and sustainable farming community is not only concerning for health and wellness reasons, but it is now clear that the issue is much more serious.

The government of American stooge manmoahn singh often complains that there isn't enough money to feed all the poor, yet will extends corporate tax concessions worth billions of rupees. It talks about having to stop food wastage in order to be able to address hunger, when it allows millions of tons of food grains to rot in warehouses or be eaten by rats. If there is a shortage of food grains, it should halt their export for use as cattlefeed in Europe. Besides, why were farmers pushed from growing grains to cash crops?

The government's attitude to hunger, starvation and famine is to simply deny it.

In Maharashtra, for instance, it sought to end hunger altogether "without adding a morsel to anyone's diet. It simply passed an Act that deletes the word "famine" from all legislation in the state. By defining "a problem out of existence ... a government kills its own responsibility towards citizens, mainly poor and hungry ones, in times of crisis," Sainath argues.

Some years ago, it emerged that poverty stricken tribals in Rajasthan had taken to eating wild grass to fend off hunger but died since the grass was hard to digest.

manmohan singh and the english media inside india.

a great misconception is that so caled liberalization and globalization was brought to india by this manmohan singh. In fact soon after

victory in Iraq war in February 1991 the bush no. first declared a new world order in which he explicitly said that he will open up the

world for american business. In fact his trade secretary immeditealy announced that she will make sure that America open up the thighs

of third world countries (Like as with a vice ) as a slowly and surely to American business(true analogy to a rape)-that was given the name

Liberalization and globalization for which the british and americans had been working since 1986. What was left for america to do was

install malleable stooges inside the third world countries. Especially those types who are unelectable and have no mass base of their own--

in other words who are not electable democratically but installed from above through media and other manipulations.

this manmohan singh in india fulfilled that criteria of being unliked and unelectable insignificant person who was willing to act on order

of his American masters -if they had asked him to turn communist he would have done that. It is this traitor manmohan singh who informed

America of impending Indian nuclear test in 1993 and also who openly said that Iran Pakistan India pipe line would be difficult to finance

-just because his Americans masters did not want that!

Uncle Scam has totally subordinated India to Uncle Sam,be it the nation's N-policy,strategic N-deterrent,foriegn policy, economic polcies, etc. Unelected and unelelctable Uncle Scam has the dubious distinction of heading the world's largest democracy which remains absolutely silent on the great global crisies of the day. Egypt,Libya,Iraq,Afghanistan,Syria, the Middle East,Iran.....all these crises sees Uncle Scam looking towards Washington for a lead! Imagine the difference if we had Pandit Nehru or Mrs. G. at the helm today .Would they have kept their mouths shut?
.Having problems with its rent-boy Pak,Uncle Sam now wants India to replace Pak as rent-boy of the siubcontinent. In "Uncle Scam",Dr.MM Singh,Uncle Sam has found the right individual!

18.4.2004: Manmohan singh -- there must be no role or minimum role for parasite looser-an IMF FUNCTIONARY - manmohan singh-a western stooge.- he is no leader-he can not get even two persons elected .
this is exactly opposite what people voted for--they voted for definite change in economic policy and nto the type for which manmohan singh is liekd by foreing isnipred english media. With atal bihari vajpayee winning our India would have ben enslaved fully by the angloamericans within 12 years-: now with man mohan singh india will have been enslaved within 10 years. look at the happiness of american and british in having sonia gandhi removed -she could have saved india from their clutches-all is lost for india now.

why are the left delaying in joining govert.does the left not know that right are waiting as vultures? the LEft is a looser party -the right would have jumped at the chance to influence the govt. even when mandate from people is for going left; but look at these looser left -they decided not to join!!

Sure, but even Manmohan Singh is not an elected person. He hasn’t even been freely elected by the Congress Parliamentary Party. The Congress constitution was amended in May 2004 to give Sonia Gandhi the right to choose the party’s PM, and she chose unelectable American agent from world bank Manmohan Singh.
