19 Signs That America Has Become A Crazy Control Freak Nation Where Almost Everything Is Illegal

Michael Snyder, Contributing Writer
Activist Post

Do you think that you are free?  Most Americans would still probably answer "yes" to that question, but is that really the case?

In the film Edge of Darkness, Mel Gibson stated that "everything is illegal in Massachusetts".  Well, the same could pretty much be said for the United States as a whole.

Our lives are governed by millions of laws, rules and regulations and more are being piled on all the time.  In fact, 40,000 new laws just went into effect in January.

Every single new law restricts your freedom just a little bit more.  The truth is that America has become a crazy control freak nation where virtually everything that we do is highly regulated.  You have probably broken multiple laws today that you don't even know exist.

We have all become criminals and lawbreakers because almost everything is illegal at this point.  Our politicians are convinced that they are "making life better" by piling gigantic mountains of laws onto our backs, and law enforcement authorities are convinced that they are helping society by "cracking down on crime", but the reality is that our liberties and our freedoms are being strangled by all of this government oppression.  This is not the way that America is supposed to work.

Yes, every society needs laws.  But the laws should be short enough and simple enough that everybody can read them and understand them.

In America today, there is no possible way that any of us could ever read all of the laws that apply to us.  Most of us just live our daily lives and try to do the "right" thing.  But there is no guarantee that men with guns will not show up at your door one evening because of some obscure regulation that you have broken.

The following are 19 signs that America has become a crazy control freak nation where almost everything is illegal.

#1 One California town is actually considering making it illegal to smoke in your own backyard.

#2 In Louisiana, a church was recently ordered to stop giving out water because it did not have a permit to do so.

#3 In the United States it is illegal to operate a train that does not have an "F" painted on the front.  Apparently without that "F" we all might not know where the front of the train is.

#4 In many U.S. states is it now illegal to collect rain that falls from the sky on to your own property.

#5 In America today it is illegal to milk your cow and sell the milk to your neighbor.  If you do this, there is a good chance that federal agents will raid your home at the crack of dawn.

#6 In Washington D.C. it is illegal not to recycle cat litter.

#7 It is illegal to give a tour of the monuments in Washington D.C. without a license.

#8 In the United States it is illegal to sell natural cures for cancer -- even if they work.

#9 In the state of Massachusetts it is illegal to deface a milk carton.

#10 In the state of Alabama, bear wrestling is completely illegal.

#11 In Fairbanks, Alaska it is illegal to give alcoholic beverages to a moose.

#12 In Lake Elmo, Minnesota it is illegal to sell pumpkins or Christmas trees that are grown outside city limits.

#13 There is a federal law that makes it illegal to be "annoying" on the Internet.

#14 If you register with a false name on MySpace or Facebook you could potentially "spend five years in federal prison".

#15 In Hazelwood, Missouri it is illegal for little girls to sell girl scout cookies in the front yards of their own homes.

#16 All over the United States lemonade stands run by children are being shut down because they do not have the proper permits.

#17 In Florida, it is illegal to bring a plastic butter knife to school.

#18 In San Juan Capistrano, California it is illegal to hold a home Bible study without a "conditional use permit".

#19 In the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania it is illegal to make even a single dollar from a blog unless you buy a $300 business license.

Sadly, this list of crazy laws and ridiculous regulations could be thousands long.

We are a nation run by a bunch of control freaks who do not care about our liberties and our freedoms.

Every once in a while, John Stossel does some really great reporting.  An example of this is posted below.  In this 40-minute video, Stossel goes into great detail about how almost everything is illegal in America today.  In particular, the first 20 minutes are absolutely excellent.  If you have not seen this yet, I highly encourage you to check it out.

I have been saying for 50 years that we need to have a law of maximum laws, That is where it is ILLEGAL to make MORE than a maximum TOTAL of 800 LAWS, NATION WIDE!
If a NEW law is needed then they MUST REMOVE an OLD LAW! 800 laws MAX!

"#18 In San Juan Capistrano, California it is illegal to hold a home Bible study without a "conditional use permit"."

That is a violation of the 1st amendment.

We need to start REPEALING LAWS not adding new ones.

The "Law", or more precisely the "Legal" often subjective interpretations, has become the most corrupt, immoral, self-serving invention that man has ever assembled. It has become everything that is supposed to oppose .......

...... and there is nothing that you can do about it!

Have a swell morning.

"16 All over the United States lemonade stands run by children are being shut down because they do not have the proper permits."

Permits are needed for a business. Couldn't selling lemonade be a hobby?

It already is illegal to smoke in your backyard or anywhere, depending on what you are smoking. How is outlawing the smoking of tobacco on your own property anymore preposterous than smoking cannabis?

we need to elect Ron Paul to restore the constitution.

Electing Ron Paul won't make any difference. The election is already decided anyway. Everything going on with primaries and caucuses and blah blah blah is just a lota hooey to make people think they have some sort of choice. The system will not allow Paul to get in, and even if he did he would not be allowed to do anything more than the shadowy powers allow. That's the way it is...and probably it's the way it always has been more or less, except now it's really pretty darned obvious.

I love seeing more and more people writing about the obviousness of our [already present] police state! It makes me feel like the conversation is spreading and becoming more prevalent.

However, I do think we need to address this idea of "governmental evil". It is extremely important to remember that a government that is held in CONSTANT check by its citizens can only serve them (the whole axiom of 'a government should be afraid of its citizens'). The REAL reason for this juggernaut of laws and the crushing of freedoms is the collusion of corporate entities (which represent the "land owners" of our modern time) and the government (which now represents those corporations).

Quite simply put, in the interests of the power elite, we are slowly but surely being lead into a state of total control at the hands of the government, corporations, and each other(thanks facebook!). A true paradigm shift is needed to change anything. Anon (immediately above) has it right. The system has been crafted such that the only REAL change will come out of the overarching desire of the peasants to change the way they view the world.

Governments are big business. Licensing and fines are easy ways to make huge profits. They rely on law breakers. For example, in the UK most speed cameras are unnecessarily and deliberately sited to raise money.

The moment an order is written, whether it’s a warrant or a traffic ticket, or whatever, the money machine is activated. Every prisoner has a monetary value to our government whether its local, county, state or federal. Bonds are written based on the person’s name and social security number and are sold through a brokerage firm such as AG Edwards or Merrill Lynch who has the contract to sell all the prison bonds for the city, county, state or federal prisons. Over 50% of the money market bonds right now are purchased in Japan or China. I’ve been told by researchers that Walmart and, used to be, Kmart also purchase these bonds, Walmart mostly doing so by emptying out bank accounts at night. Both companies are fronts for enormous money machines.

The way the bond works is that a monetary value is placed on the alleged crime and then factored the way banks factor their money. In other words if a person is convicted of a felony the ‘value’ would be $4 million. The county/city/ state then multiplies it by ten, so the bond that goes out for sale with the prisoner’s name and social security number is a short-term ‘promissory’ note. It’s offered at $40 million. Perhaps an investor will offer 40% of the $40 million, or $16 million. Once this ‘promissory note’ of the face value of $40 million reaches the banks it is then multiplied again by 200 to 300% and sold as bank securities. For those of you who wonder why the US has more people in prison per capita than any other nation on earth, you’ll begin to understand how we can have a weakening economy and still fund wars overseas. It’s all based on prisoners....in other words, prison for profit.

Knowing all this and knowing that a prisoner can have a ‘net worth’ of say, $10,000 per day in the money markets, helped me explain to many bewildered people why they were in jail. We were only merchandise in a warehouse. The storage was pretty cheap; one woman while in jail researched the cost of feeding prisoners per day which ranged from 74 cents to $2.72 per prisoner per day.

I just saw something on the net yesterday about someone, I think from the CFR, saying that Americans are "over-regulated." Kind of eery in the wake of Stossel's program on Fox. Why would Fox let him say such things?

Not a hint anywhere that the massive web of statutes possibly aren't legitimate law, not for people who aren't members of the BAR Law Society anyway. The sheep are beginning to mumble about how the dog seems to be working with that Man somehow.

Holy Crap! I live by #13! What the hell is the point of people, if not to enjoy annoying them?

HOLY SHIT! Is that not the problem? I would sacrifice YOUR freedoms to protect you as I see fit for you.. I was born to die. We were all born to die. The only thing I want from my time is to live free and happy and let others do the same!!!! Man.. It pisses me off. I was so very young when I had my first ephiony and that was, no one has the right to tell me what to do. And I don't tell others what to do. To me, it's the people that seek to control others to satisfy their own delusions that should start facing what should be a vey limited amount of laws, to keep them from FUCKING the rest of our lives!!!

so...why don't you all move to a third world country were you can be free to do anything you want to make a profit...including selling contaminate foods, prostitute children, and buy black market products that are stolen or worse...were you can be stolen into salvery...and no one will look for you.

One of the reasons for some of these ridiculous laws -- like the one recently proposed in the state legislature of Oklahoma banning the sale of food which contains aborted human fetuses (does this public official think he's living in a real-life version of Soylent Green?) -- is simply so that our elected officials can claim that they're earning their keep when what they're actually doing is passing pointless legislation which will either never actually be enforced or will only be enforced selectively in order to make the lives of their ideological opponents more difficult.

Anonymous said...

We're actually the third world country referred to above except all those bad things are being done to us under the cover of a "law", which apparently makes it OK.

God had 10 commandments for life but luckily for us, we have wise legislators who have "improved" on God's rules and created the 100,000 and counting commandments which sets it straight about such dastardly things as collecting and replanting seeds, drinking natural milk, eating tomatoes you grow at home, saving and using rainwater without a government permit, eating walnuts for their health benefits, and on and on.

C'mon, people. This can't be real. Why aren't we laughing at the joke being played on us? Why in heavens name are we treating all these "laws" as serious when they are clearly a joke? Are we REALLY this stupid?

The average American commits 2 felonies and 5 misdemeanors a day. The governments, state and federal have decided to put the whole country in lock down as we are all with the terrorists. Just ask them, Obama and Bush, excepting illegals and transgender'd. A nice cremation of care shindig always picks their spirits as they are above their own rules.God's got a appropriate place for them, Hell forever.
