6 things that Occupy Wall Street has already accomplished

Just 2 months into the Wall Street protests bureaucrats nationwide have already began to crack down and demand an end to the occupation.  Little do they know, this is only the beginning.  The establishment didn’t bat an eye when we demanded an end to their many occupations across the world, so now it’s time for us to pay them the same respect that they gave to us.

Regardless of which form the movement takes from here, there are already several victories that have already been won for the “99%”.  A successful revolution doesn’t seek to create more laws and government action, but is aimed at creating a shift in the public consciousness that will hopefully render the status quo obsolete.  Occupy Wall Street has opened the door to that shift; a door that could very soon become a floodgate if those of us who have been focusing on these issues for years are able to step up our game and rise to the challenge.

1. NOW YOU KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALONE – Although the movement against big banks and government corruption has been steadily growing for a number of years, many people who have found themselves in this struggle still felt incredibly isolated from the rest of society.  Now, with hundreds and thousands of like-minded people getting together in various cities across the world, activists are beginning to realize that they are not alone.  There are now events in thousands of different cities, where you can go to meet other people who are concerned about the future and want to change the status quo.  The Internet has exploded with activist information and those of us who were once looked upon as a “fringe community” are now becoming a strong force in the political landscape.

2. THE ACTIVIST COMMUNITY IS RE-ENERGIZED – Since there are so many different issues that are being championed by this movement, a lot of activists are still on the fence when it comes to Occupy Wall Street. However, even those who may not entirely agree with some of the ideas coming out of the Occupy camps are still stepping up their own efforts and getting more serious with their activism.  This is similar to the situation that one witnesses when they show up to a nightclub too early.  They will typically find an empty dance floor, with a bunch of nervous wallflowers waiting for someone to make the first move.  Once someone is brave enough to make that first move, the dance floor erupts within minutes because everyone then becomes less self-conscious.  This is exactly the kind of energy that activists worldwide are starting to experience -- now that the first move has been made its time for the wallflowers to dance!

3. IT'S COOL TO PROTEST AGAIN – For some reason there has been a huge social stigma attached to civil disobedience for a number of decades.  Since the late '60s and early '70s the visible activist presence had diminished considerably . . . until now.  Polls nationwide are showing that more and more people are showing support for Occupy Wall Street and are sympathetic to the anger that the protesters are experiencing.  This is actually a huge victory, considering the fact that most of the protests that have taken place in the past few decades were vilified by the media and public alike.  Now we are starting to see a fracture between the media and the American public, which is illuminating just how out of touch the mainstream media is.

4. MAINSTREAM MEDIA CORRUPTION HAS BEEN EXPOSED LIKE NEVER BEFORE – The coverage (or lack of coverage early on) that the mainstream media has been giving to the OWS movement has majorly backfired and has exposed the dying institution for the fraud that it is.  Many of your average hard-working Americans who spend most of their lives just trying to make ends meet have long relied on the evening news to let them know what’s going on around the world.  When thousands of people were camped outside of Wall Street for months and half of the country still didn’t know about it, it raised some new concerns in the hearts of those who still trusted the word of the mainstream media.  The fact that the pundits on the news only say what they are paid to say, and what they are allowed to say, has been proven on a daily basis since these protests started.

5. THE NEW AMERICAN POLICE STATE IS EXPOSED – For the most part, these protests have been entirely peaceful.  The majority of the violence that we have seen has actually been unprovoked police assaults on innocent protesters.  Thanks to advanced technology, images of peaceful protesters being maced and roughed up by police went viral on the Internet and showed the world how police brutality works in America.  As the independent media began to investigate the details, it was uncovered that J.P Morgan chase alone “donated” 4.6 million dollars to the NYPD.  When we follow the money it is plain to see that the police officers aren’t here to protect us, but here to protect the highest bidder.  This has been going on for some time, but luckily we now have cold hard proof and documented evidence of the corruption that exists between the financial sector and law enforcement.

6. WE ARE FINALLY STARTING TO LOOK BEHIND THE CURTAIN - After watching Bush Sr., Clinton, Bush Jr., and Obama systematically destroy our economy and take away our freedoms over the course of various Democratic and Republican presidential terms it has become apparent to the American people that they really have no say in their political system.  Americans now realize that going to the polls at election time is going to do absolutely nothing to change the foreign or domestic policies in this country.  These policies are dictated entirely by big banks, multinational corporations and international think tanks that operate through Wall Street and the financial district in London known as “the city”. The worst of these organizations -- the Federal Reserve, committee of 300, the Bilderberg Group, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission and the world’s dominant banks -- are not being specifically called out enough yet, but you can rest assured that they are starting to get extremely nervous.  If we can keep up the pressure and continue to educate those around us about the intricacies of this struggle, then we have the potential to create an unprecedented change for the better.

Occupy your local courthouse and expose the corruption.

The only thing OWS will accomplish is pushing the U.S. farther down the road to martial law. The occupy movement is an OPTOR/ACORN funded color revolution, it works with police by employing provocateurs (see Oakland), accepts donations from corporations (B&J ice cream) while also defending corps. they see as "good" Apple or Starbucks.

The movement is basically everything that is wrong with the left, neoliberalism.

Furthermore, anything positive that could come out of this will be moot because the American people are stunted humans who can't think for themselves. Real change begins on the micro, not the macro level. Citizens banding together with neighbors, in neighborhoods, towns and cities, fixing things up and raising awareness.

Americans need to relearn how to learn again critical thinking and self reliance. Than, MAYBE, change can finally come.

ANY ELECTED OR NONELECTED official ignoring thje corruption of the government condones it and may safely be considered guilty by association. Money is being removed from the economy without creative progressive investment being advocated or even focused on. The freemasons have invaded for the English crown. The queen of England is the head freemason and the British royals need slaves or their people will starve and revolt. So ripping off TV obsessed Americans is the easiest way to go for them. Nobody can revolt asleep in front of the idiot box.

With a very few exceptions, the behavior of the OWS has been exemplary and VERY restrained towards their heavily armed but retarded countrymen who refuse to enforce laws against white collar crime.

this is a very well written piece. we have ideas about trying to move things down the road and becoming more political to attack the enemy on their own turf, but you have the right idea in paragraph 2 about creating a shift in thinking. Thanks for food for thought.

Any group who wants more gov. regulation and works with the UN is NOT okay. Beware.

All this Socialist group thought is the enemy of free thought and individualism. They all support the New World Order and don't even know it (or maybe they do). After reading several of the Liberal biased articles on this sit and other "alternative" media sites, I am convinced that The Left is fixated on Conspiracies that tend to elevate the globalization that Americans should fear as the plaque. It is against everything we stand for and an insult to those who have fought and died to protect her. Beware the eminent Marxist takeover after the collapse.

The Barackupiers are generally completely misguided but, they are getting closer when they question the Federal Reserve. Private markets are victoms of their manipulation as much as anyone, especially takers who pay no income tax.

Oh, I just realized I need to be "approved" by Liberal moderators. Thanks for wasting my time.

Look,I don't care for the Soros/Acorn axis either. But they can be eclipsed and made history. Some are even calling for Soros to be arrested and his money wrested from him. We are at a crossroads here as this explodes into something larger than any of us or any controller of any stripe.

There hs been no mention of a significant event at Occcupy Phoenix where the local militia, with many vets in it feeling angry and betrayed as a result of what happened to their Marine brother in Tuscon several months ago, showed up with their M4s and M16s and interposed themselves between the protestors and the cops in riot gear. They told the police that they didn't agree with what the protestors were saying but they were going to defend to the death their right to say it. If the police dared touch the protestors they were dealing with the militia. Think about that. We may disagree but we have a common interest: to take our country and the republic back. Government as criminal enterprise and the police state must end.

WHY is there an add from SCIENTOLOGY.ORG on the right side? Just above the articles on "Economy, Finance, Business". Furthermore, clicking on it leads to a site which has 'bad reputation'. Are you being hacked?

Occupy The World
GOD’s Word

The people of the world unite, for this is a strong an unified fight,
Greed, corruption and arrogance, will end, for the LORD THY GOD will make them all bend.
Those powerful with money seek more, on the backs of what has now become the working poor.
We are wage slaves to those above us whom use greed, that are taking away our right to succeed.
Our young people cannot afford a home, there are no jobs to pay our college loans.
Those that are older cannot pay, for the cost of living , day to day.
GOD gave us the Earth to enjoy, not to work 80 hours a week at our place of employ.
We pay, we pay and we pay, while millions of dollars are stolen each day.
While we break our backs to survive, the rich & business continue to connive.
Even among the people, our mindset has become, “Me first”and who cares about anyone?
Even religion has now become, a corrupt money making machine to keep us under their thumb.
The donations which they receive, are all from the rich and the rest of us are deceived.
The true word of GOD they do not spread, made up fabrications are told instead.
In this way they can control, all the masses to do as they are told.
Commit all the sin you wish to do, Jesus will forgive all of you.
Just bring us money and buy our religious cd’s so we are the ones that can live in prosperity.
The true word of GOD is never spread, Jesus is GOD’s son, not the LORD, but this word is never said.
Jesus was given to the world for love to spin, he did not suffer and die for OUR sins..
He endured all the pain to show, his father, the creator, that he loved him so..
GOD gave us another chance for his son, but we are no longer being given another one.
The new testaments words are false they tell, The LORD THY GOD punishes people for their sins, and GOD puts you in hell.
Archangel Gabriel avenges according to GOD’s will, while the rest of the world shall be still.
satan has absolutely no power at all on earth. He can cause mischief, small, he is a gin, nothing is he worth.
Only once GOD puts you in hell, there you awake, then satan can do with you his stake.
So be wary oh world, for those who deceive, be wary oh world for those made of greed.
The LORD THY GOD is angry at the people of the land, no more of this evil can he stand.
The storms, the earthquakes, the hurricanes he will send, only GOD in his mercy will no where this will end.
To the protestors of the world, this will spread world wide,
because the LORD THY GOD is on your side.

Some weird ideas in these comments: appears at least one person is drinking the corporate Kool Aid. And neoliberal is far from liberal!

I didn't realize that I was a neoliberal OR a socialist. Wow! You learn something new everyday. @OP - Great job.

Sorry about the bad spelling mistake: protestor instead of protester. Was still very sick that day.
Another anonymous comment poster (however our ISP addresses are not anonymous) mentioned, "Don't vote." I affirm that. I have refused to vote since early 2001 when I realized how corrupted and manipulated computerized "voting" had become. The Republican primaries of 2008 brought that fact very much to light. In New Hampshire and California vote tallies for McCain and Ron Paul were switched. Driving the 280 miles from Brookings Oregon to Ukiah CA I saw nothing but Ron Paul signs with th exception of one sign for Hillary Clinton near an Indian reservation. The financial, political, and legal system corruption is bipartisan. Anyone who votes in the present system is part of the problem, not the solution.
In the old Soviet Union communism fell after a truly democratic election in which one of the choices was "none of the above," which got the majority in district after district. Any attempt in the U.S. to include "none of the above" on the ballot anywhere has met stiff all out resistance from the PTB. If Soros and the organizations behind OWS truly want democracy and not some engineered outcome do what the Russians did in 1991 to bring the system down: have "none of the above" on the ballot. Think of how many corrupt judges run "unopposed". Negotiated gerrymandering that creates bipartisan safe districts for almost the entire House of Representatives has made a mockery out of the republic. Noncooperation with the system is the only way to bring it down. The financial and political oligarchy know they lose credibility when voting participation goes below 50%. Yes, DON'T VOTE, unless you are given the true choice of "none of the above."

The things that everyone has a problem with has been going on for a while now. It's just something new to complain about, that's what everyone's problem is now. "oh the government is so horrible and is so corrupt." And? Go somewhere else. A third of every state if not more is on some kind of welfare. Florida just started making welfare applicants take drug tests, more then 83% of the normal percentage went down. All this protesting is doing is wasting more of the tax payers money. 99%? Get a job or 2 jobs. Cry babies.

Most of the blogs put the Occupy demonstrations starting around mid September. Some early Sept.

The freaking wall street journal has been covering it since early October and you only wrote this Nov 6th. How can you say the mainstream media ignored thousands of protesters for MONTHS? Way to hype the lie man. Power to the powerles..

Local groups are converging with the larger all over, so the micro comment is just moot. get off your computers and go do something.

so what youre saying is that you've accomplished absolutely NOTHING

Not one of the 6 above listed "accomplishments" are even real accomplishments. They are ideals appreciated by those wanting to be noticed, but not one single change accomplished.
