More propaganda: US claims Iran sending arms to Taliban, Iran calls it “ridiculous lies”

If the tensions between Iran and the United States were not apparent enough, it just became that much clearer today. According to a Wall Street Journal report, senior US officials have claimed that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iran’s most elite military unit, has provided lethal arms to Iran’s allies in Iraq in Afghanistan, including the Taliban.

According to the report, the Guard smuggled rocket propelled grenades in order to allow longer range attacks on American troops in the region. Apparently this is an attempt to speed up the United States’ withdrawal from these countries. However, the WSJ and the “senior US officials” seem to lack any ability to think with even a remote semblance of logic.

Let us do something that the mainstream media would never ask you to do: think. Why would Iran look to strain already weak links with the West, knowing that they are itching for a reason to ramp-up efforts to attack their nation? Why would they give the United States more reasons to justify keeping troops in Iraq and Afghanistan?  Furthermore, why would they funnel arms to the Taliban knowing that this could easily give credence to another troop surge? Seeing as Iran still exists as a sovereign nation after all of these years of saber rattling, can we really assume they are dumb enough to engage in such a short-sighted and pointless practice?

It is up to you to decide if you think the Iranian leadership is clueless enough to give the West ammunition to justify a preemptive strike upon the region. Personally, I do not think they could be that imbecilic, but it is a possibility.

Major General James Buchanan, the top spokesman for the American military effort in Iraq, claims that we will see “Iranian-backed groups continue to maintain high attack levels.” He fails to explain the logic behind Iran seeking to increase attack efforts as a means of ousting the United States. Since we first invaded Iraq, the attacks have only increased and we have yet to pull out from the region. Why would it suddenly change now?

The proof that the arms came from Iran is far from iron-clad. The Pentagon has traced the Taliban’s rockets in Afghanistan back to Iran through their markings and location when discovered. This gives the United States a “high degree of confidence” that they indeed were provided by Iranian forces. Maybe I’m just overly skeptical but this seems a little bit less than certain. If this is actually the only proof of these arms’ providence, I think it is a bit unethical of the Wall Street Journal to run with this report as if it is irrefutable fact.

The headline of this story would make you think that this is an indisputable fact, “Iran Funnels New Weapons to Iraq and Afghanistan.” This completely ignores the fact that this is a report coming from “senior U.S. officials” and is not nearly as certain as the headline might make one think. The complete lack of “report” or “claim” or any other qualifier in the headline makes it clear that this is to be taken as fact when it is better characterized as conjecture.

The internal struggles within the Iranian regime are also some cause for concern, as some of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s advisors have been brought up on corruption charges as of late.

According to more unnamed U.S. officials, the Iranian regime has allegedly sent military advisers to Syria to help President Bashar al-Assad crush the popular Syrian uprising. There are also claims of increased propaganda activities in Bahrain, Egypt, and Yemen, nations which the United States has had puppet regimes, some of which have fallen recently in the case of Egypt.

As America intensifies the secret war in Yemen, U.S. envoys have apparently demanded an immediate transfer of power due to fears of increased Islamic militant activity in the nation. The American intelligence, propaganda, and military efforts in the Middle East clearly are increasing in intensity and don’t show any signs of relenting, regardless of the fact that we have no money to continue the efforts.

Officials representing Iran have completely denied these claims, the WSJ reports, “This is the propaganda of the Americans. They are worried because they have to leave Iraq very soon, according to the plan,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast. “They are better off going home and sorting out their own domestic problems.”

This is one of the few times I have found myself agreeing with Iranian leadership. Mr. Mehmanparast seems to understand what our leaders and Washington have completely forgotten: priorities.

With record levels of Americans being kicked out of their homes by greedy and often fraudulent bankers, massive levels of unemployment, and a stagnating economy, the last thing we need to be doing is spending non-existent funds on people half-way across the world.

Not surprisingly, the Israeli media has jumped on the Iran fearmongering wagon, claiming that it is not only the United States that is concerned about Iran’s military activities. They claim that there are “different nations in the Middle East” that are expressing concern over “Iran’s military aspirations and regional influence.”

What are these “different nations,” you ask? Take a wild guess and you’d probably hit the nail right on the head: Israel and Saudi Arabia. Big surprise there! The United States’ most powerful allies in the region, including the nation which has been threatening every single country in the region for decades, are supporting these efforts to hype up anti-Iranian fears.

All I ask of my readers is that you utilize your ability to think logically, analyze data, and think independently. If you exercise this faculty, I think you might walk away with some serious unanswered questions and some giant holes in logic that are a struggle to fill. In order to buy this American-Israeli propaganda, it requires some mental castration, willful ignorance, and complete lack of thought. Thankfully, my readers are not spineless enough to believe only that which is spoon-fed to them by the Western corporate media.
