UK Family Living Off-the-Grid Facing Prison Over Faux Environmental Issues

Injunction to move by the end the of month

Dinah and Stig Mason to be evicted from their own land
Devon Gazette

A COUPLE living an "off-grid" lifestyle say they face prison unless they move from their own land in Willand and return to an existence in the benefits trap.

Stig and Dinah Mason bought Muxbeare Orchard after a sudden windfall allowed them to quit their impoverished lives on a Hertfordshire council estate two years ago.

The Masons have transformed what they described as a derelict four-acre plot into a haven of self-sufficiency boasting a 400 sq m allotment, a polytunnel and greenhouses to grow fruit and vegetables, chickens for egg production and an orchard they have regenerated by planting around 14 new apple trees of various species.

The couple, who have two boys, aged eight and nine, say because they moved onto the site in order to work the land, Mid Devon District Council is turfing them off as officers do not consider them to be conserving an agricultural area.

How dare they grow their own, non gmo fruits and veg and rear chickens naturally? As for planting apple trees, I think they should get a life-sentence. Outrageous.

Further proof that we don't actually own land, we rent it from the government as long as we pay them tribute and do with it what they tell us.

This story further illustrates there is no such thing as soveirgnty of the individual anymore.

Start shooting anyone who tries to tell you to do something you don't want to do. If you are harming no-one, and no-one would be harmed by your actions, then there is nothing wrong.
Start shooting them, and this nonsense will stop soon enough.

Well, The law was there before they decided to buy the land and move onto it. I'm not saying it's right or fair, but they chose to conflict with the law. If it was a retroactive law I would be pissed.

I also believe they live in Europe, Britain maybe. They don't import GMO foods because they label it and noone buys it/it's illegal. So that isn't the problem. And they aim to keep agricultural land that way because they don't have wilderness out the wazzoo like America to develop if need be.

Greltam - these people ARE using the land - are you saying we should build a shopping mall on it? Clearly forcing them to live on benefits is STUPID. Unfortunately the jobsworths will insist it is RULES!

The planning laws apply to everyone not just the 'green' couple/ If everyone decided to take over land cos house prices are so high in this country then you would have pandemonium with house quickly losing value and teh whole pack of card falling down. Frankly I can understand that this couple want to build a existence on this piece of land which is one we can all envy but they are not able financially to be able to buy land which can allow you permission to do so and their way f going about it is wrong in this respect.
